I kinda get what she means. Here in the UK, black artists have been pushed out of R&B. White singers like Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J and Ed Sheeran are now the new faces of soul and R&B while black and mixed singers like Emeli Sande and Leona Lewis are ignored by the media. In future, I see the same thing happening in America. Remember that Rock and Roll is primarily a combination of *"African-American genres"* such as blues, boogie woogie, jump blues and jazz. Today Rock is considered "white music" and Black artists have completely been pushed out. The same will happen in American Hip Hop and R&B in a few years.
It's true it's happening. I think maybe people are more racist than they think, maybe without realising, and they'd rather listen to a white artist. I hate Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Leona Lewis.
lol..Leona Lewis and Emeli Sande, both mixed...couldn't give an example of a black singer...preferably Estelle, Laura Mvula, Benjamin Clementine... but I get your point. Black people support your own! *groupeconomics* I see a lot of replies on Google+...great discussion. Just wanted to inform any Londoners who are interested...I am launching Idan Quarterly in November...a magazine/media platform for black creatives to show case their talent. If you are interested please email idanquarterly@gmail.com
Seun Amusan Estelle is way better than any of the names originally mentioned. Not heard of Laura Uvala (proof of what's wrong). I'd also say Emeli Sande is given her fair shot when she brings out a new album and Leona Lewis was never any good to begin with. All X Factor artists fade eventually unless they've got a blind audience or real talent (Olly Murs the only one with any real talent in my opinion). anyway
She isn't a bad person she is just very very emotional and this gets her in trouble a lot she speaks whats on her mind without any filters. She is a brilliant musician and I'm a huge fan.
Have you guys heard the T.I. interview on Godfrey's UA-cam channel? T.I. was trying to check Godfrey over comedy business stuff. The interview reminded me of Azaelia Banks and this interview. 😂🤣😂
I love how justified she feels in her anger. People are always so quick to call black women angry. But any black woman in America who isn't angry is walking around with their eyes closed. It's impossible to remain blind to all the prejudice, all the stereotypical projections consistently thrown on the back of black women. And it makes me just want to say to other people judging us for the anger and the bitterness: you try being me for one day and see how easy it is for you to keep on keeping on, smiling all the while.
Main Man she’s definitely coming back and for good. Y’all so fucking sensitive & SELECTIVE. worry about the artists out here raping and killing people.
What I find so interesting is that when Tyler, The Creator is outspoken and doesn't give any regards to other people's feelings before stating his opinion in interviews, twitter, etc, nobody gives a fuck. The world thinks, "oh great. He's a little inconsiderate, maybe a bit crazy, but he's an opinioned guy and props to him for being passionate."Yet, ironically, when Azealia Banks does the exact same thing, she gets condemned, attacked, called a "bitch", and has her amazing music intentionally ignored and paid dust. Interesting how these sexist double standards are still so prominent in today's society.
Please name the Hip Hop Legends that Tyler The Creator has dissed like Azealia has over the last 4 years; he hasn't burned his bridges like Azealia Banks has & Tyler the Creator is a clown, everyone knows he likes to joke around. There is definitely double standards in music, but this is not a good example.
ADAJ3 Oh really? Okay, take Kanye West for example. He too is a black rapper. Certainly he is very much admired and has been around a long time, but he can go interrupt Taylor Swift on live television and tell her she doesn't deserve her Grammy award, he can attempt to do the same to Beck at the 2014 Grammys then comment on how Beck is not "worthy" of the Grammy and how he needs to "respect real music" ever before even listening to Beck's music and learning that he can play 14 different instruments and has been around for a decade. Kanye is an outspoken man who rarely ever has any concern for the feelings of other artists who he doesn't know shit about. People may react in disbelief, but he'll never have people rioting against him, saying he's "insane" and that they'll never listen to his music again. Azealia, here at least, is speaking out on important issues, not only petty business about how she's "better than anyone". Certainly, she's said stuff like that but it comes from a place of pain and passion where she's found that she gets far lass credit for her hard work than other fellow white female rappers who don't even write their own material. So come back with a response on that please.
I deeply dislike Ebros antagonistic, psuedo paternalistic approach. I don't think it suited the interview and even with the marketing of this, I think it was a real disservice to the content. She said some really amazing things here.
@@Emmanuel_Morales20 for me it's not about whether or not a guest can outsmart him or not let him get in their head. Ebro's behavior is completely inappropriate and some would call it violent/abusive.
Her accent is very much like a NY latina --because that is who she grew up around in Washington Heights, Manhattan. I never liked Washington Heights. I hate that accent.
i remember when this interview just came out and people were dragging her and calling her a mess, but every single thing she said was true or proven correct
Man. I understand exactly how she feels. She knows that they don't give a flying fuck about us as a race. Whenever we live normally they fuck with us and when we retaliate they play like their the victims.
astroboi 36 Yesss, use your voice, they try to portray it as when we speak up we're complaining on false & invalid issues.& I appreciate that Azealia Banks uses her position & represents that!
This girl is REAL, intelligent and super talented. She knows how fucked up this industry and world is. I wish her the best and hope she gets everything together.
Yall I'm in literal tears Her getting emotional at 15:01 when she calls ti that word And when she starts mocking tis voice at 18:28 TOOK ME TF OUT I'm screaming
Its crazy how she even has fans. She madr a post about people in atlanta calling them nigg3rs. She hate our own kind and she hates herself. Like nick cannon said i feel bad for her
Never listened to her music but she makes plenty of sense when it comes about race in the music industry. Especially with iggy and t.I., but for some reason people don't like her maybe because she is not afraid to speak her mind.
Me either but everything I have ever heard about her is her taking shots at people or having social media beef with people--..so if she wants to be respected she can't let the tomfoolery kill her rep before she ever hits the podium.
I just don't understand how she can be so passionate about it but doesn't want to put it in her music. Is it because she tours internationally and has more Caucasian fans buying her records and tickets than any other race?
Ok haven't you ever said something to someone you regret?? No right because your fucking perfect who cares lol shes a great artist and she hasn't murdered anyone let her be
Monica Barosse I never said she wasn’t a great artist. I listen to a lot of her music. Just don’t talk about her personality, talk about her music. She’s not a good person lol
It's sad that when this video came out, people hated her, bashed her for being opinionated. But two years later, people like Kanye West talk about the issue, and she is suddenly appreciated.
Intelligent??????????? Ru high???? So being smart means u tweet off the hook being racist and homophobic????? Not to mention telling Izzy to kill herself???? I wouldn’t buy anything she’s in. She needs to drop the mic cuz she’s just a jealous little girl that will NEVER step to Beyoncé’s level (another she insulted)
I'm really touched by her tears about african american culture not being valued. There are so many african american and native americans who had white people tear them from their original culture and religions because it was seen as of the devil and that they needed to be civilized - and now we use so many of their contributions in our american society. She makes some good points - although she uses derogatory terms like water and thus limits that ability of her message to be received.
So hold up, it goes from embrace our culture to our culture is ours leave it alone. So we shouldn't want white kids listening to our music, coming to see us perform, growing up with our old country's culture as a norm? You think we should segregate ourselves from you? You've fallen into the lib-democratic kkk trap. It's invented to make blacks TANK!
Her message should be received whether she uses “derogatory” terms or not. This is such a white persons mentality. “They made a point but they said a bad word so their point isn’t deserving of recognition”. No, it’s just that you feel uncomfortable with what they said and need any reason possible to push it away from your conscious mind.
The thing is she didn't just think of this off the top of her head or this is all a coincidence. We have seen this countless times through out the decades. History repeats itself when no one wants to take responsibility. These problems have been faced before and she's just stating facts.
Culture appropriation ain't no joke. They did it with jazz, rock & roll and now hip hop. If a black person speaks out they are just looked at as the angry black guy or female. It already sucks that they kept us at the bottom since the beginning of time. But we can't allow them to take over something that we started just for them to make a profit off of.
***** White People can make music if they want, but if theyre WACK the media & the Mindless followers don't need to put them on a pedestal as if theyre the best just cus theyre white & can get media publication & sell & chart on iTunes
we were never at the bottom in the beginning of time brother. THAT is the elaborate lie. slavery is only a chapter in our history. we were gods to begin with.
@Jackson Storm she’s not a hater u just hate the truth. Everything she said igloo Australia was true. Everything she said about the music industry was true. Your just mad cuz u know she’s right and ur mad cuz white people should never be in hiphop. Y’all hate black peoples but first to mimic us. GOOF
I don't think the problem is necessarily that white people are rapping .. The problem is that white people are rapping, and aren't good at it, or not as good as their black counterparts.. However they still receive the awards and accolades MERELY BECAUSE they are white. When the white person actually has talent ( eminem, Tina Marie, Adele) I don't really see the issue. However I do see the issue when white people get boosted and don't have to work hard at all and don't even have any talent, while black people with 283818x more talent have to bust their asses to get half as far. Just my take on things.
your post really doesn't make sense. Iggy Azalea obviously has charm and talent, plenty of talent, I can see that by just a few videos of her , and the public responds to her and buys her stuff , a lot more than they buy Banks stuff. I watched some Banks videos fro the first time just now, and I can see why shes a one album wonder and doesn't sell much. She's just another arrogant "artist" who thinks that he or she is much better than they really are, and that their stuff doesn't stink, and then lashes out in a self-serving manner at other more successful artists like Iggy, in Banks case taking a racial turn on things. Iggy obviously has what it takes to go over well with he public - "industry" honchos are not standing behind people in music stores or in front of peoples computers forcing folks to buy Iggy's products. In your opinion Azalea has no or substandard talent- your opinion is obviously out of step with public. Awards are always a very subjective thing. Macklemore and Iggy sell very well and they have received some rap\and/hiphop awards You apparently believe that there is some huge gap in talent between these two white artists and their black rivals for the same awards, but that's really just you, and objective viewers/listeners obviously don't see it that way. Are there just three white people who are as talented as black folks whether in pop music or hiphop/rap (you mentioned three)?. Obviously not.
Tom Colvin Stopped reading when you began to mention album sales. Banks just came out with her debut but her mixtapes have received critical acclaim, so to call her a one album wonder is unwarranted.
the problem is your looking at it from a mainstream point of view. some of the best rappers ever are white and ALL of them except for Eminem never got mainstream recognition. And in the mainstream EVERYONE, no matter the race, is garbage except for Kanye, Cole, and Kendrick(not counting rappers who are big on youtube but not in the real world.) but I totally agree with you, there is no reason whatsoever that macklemore, iggy, g eazy, mgk, or mac miller should see any success.
Rap/hip-hop is black culture. Why is this even a discussion? Every other race finds our culture cool and gets influenced. It's funny how white people want rap to be a "blank" culture when it's not. it's ours the little things we black Americans do have they try and take credit for why is it so hard to accept the fact that hip hop is black culture?
Whites for sure don't and In reality we do yall try to be like us and make our music color less and smudged out our face in hip hop. Continue attempting to steal cultures from other races and claim they don't own it.
As if that was the only thing she said. You're avoiding the obvious elephants in the room. If a white guy would start complaining about blacks on their golfcourts it would be absolutely obvious that he was a dickhead from the word go.
It's a little more complicated than just "hip hop is black culture". Yes, hip hop is/was/and will always be black, but it's also music. And for someone to say u don't have the right to perform an art form bc of skin color is not only racist, but a disservice to art itself. But not every race steals or is influenced by black people. More so, black Americans influence other races. But there are many aspects of black culture that have been adopted from other cultures (over long periods of time). Every culture is somehow influenced by another. White rappers don't hear a song and say "lemme steal this music and use it for my personal gain" (though some do *cough cough* Iggy A). No, white rappers understand they are guests in hip hop, and they respect it. But u can't discount a rappers talent based on whether they are white or not...though mainstream music is guilty of that.
Ebro was trying to make himself a self-appointed authority over Banks and she was not allowing it. Infact she should be an authority over him since she is clearly more intelligent.
Right, the whole “You’re emotional” “I’m 40” made it so obviously he was trying to kinda talk down on her. If that’s how you’re going to view people and be dismissive towards their opinions, why try to do a radio show?
Even if I'm dumb at least I'll never be as dumb as Azealia Banks. If she qualifies as a "deep thinker" then I'd hate to see a normal or shallow thinker by your standards.
OH AND I'M GOING TO GO OUT AND BUY ABOUT 5 OF HER ALBUMS AND GIVE THEM AS STOCKING STUFFERS. I SUPPORT ARTISTS LIKE HER, WHO ARE ACTUALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR ART.
***** Even if what you were saying was true in this instance (which it's not) The biggotry white people exemplify is far greater and magnified than all black people put together.....always trying to sneakily absolve yourselves by *TRYING* to point the finger. However it's nice to hear admittance from a white person that ya'll support biggots because we already knew that *WOMP* *WOMP*
Azealia Banks is a brilliant young lady, I wish she would get her shine. This girl is most definitely in a league of her own. Her music is diverse, lyrical.... just dope.
After listening to the complete interview, I have even more respect for Azealia. I love her passion for her art and her courage to speak out about the appropriation of black culture and music and the white washing of our history. Thank you, Ms. Banks. Her album is amazing. It's not like anything you hear on the radio and it's pushes hip-hop to another level.
kobee Speaking another language isn't cultural appropriation. Based on that logic, anyone who learns to speak a foreign language is appropriating that culture.
It's not the fact that that white hoe is rapping. It's the fact that when she's rapping she feels it's necessary to force an Ebonics accent and act like a stereotypical black girl. She even went as far as to get butt implants to come closer too the image of black people
Dopest Interview I've Heard on Ebro in the Morning Talk about opening a vein she practically gave us her Heart with her Passion not only for her Music but Black CULTURE(SHE GETS OUR CULTURE/STORY NEEDS TO BE TOLD TO US BY US). She gets that Iggy, Macklemore, Eminem (Eminem Is DOPE CHILL OUT FAM) have been given an advantage within our Culture and how its more challenging for Black people to get their Art expose on Genuine Tip. I'm definitely gonna look up her Shit from this point forward deserves to get Looks without this Ongoing Fuckery in the music industry.
Seriously, I love seeing an artist that's actually PASSIONATE about the art form and not just on some too cool 'look at all the shit I got and how banging I am and the drugs I do and all the bitches I'm fucking' tip. That shit has gotten old and corny.
12:50 made my heart skip a beat. She can sound vulnerable and tough in the same sentence and there both genuine. Artists like her don't come along too often.
Azealia Banks is a very...interesting character. Fascinating interview. I don't necessarily agree with her opinions but I'm happy that her views are being expressed. It's vaguely reminiscent of those Kanye interviews where Ye was speaking his truth and the masses didn't really understand or accept his feelings. For what it's worth. Azealia Banks is probably the best mainstream female rapper out. Her album is pretty impressive in terms of it's genre blending and scope. I don't think anyone else in music could craft anything quite like "Broke with Expensive Taste." Her penchant for witty barbs, melody, and 90s house vibes are a testament to her diverse musical palette. Hopefully she continues to grow as an artist.
People keep mentioning how they hate her personality and vulgarity as far as her opinions, yet love and praise how vulgar and brash Tupac was. Not saying anything about talent, specifically comparing their talent, but there are definitely double standards as far as the way men and women express themselves and how it's received.
Yeah exactly. I was thinking that this whole time, the condescending attitude for her emotion/passion, trying to pacify her, and tell her how it is how to act when she's obviously saying she's fighting against ev to yone trying to shut her up and constantly portray her a certain way just bc she actually gives af. But simultaneously runs circles around them (overtly &covertly) trying to trip her up.. lol
People only dont like Azealia Banks because 95% of the time SHE'S KEEPING IT REAL AND TELLING THE TRUTH!! People loveeeeeeeee when you keep it real all day long, EXCEPT for when they seem to be apart of the problem!! Go Azealia!!
I've heard so much bad shit about her through media, I never took the chance to see what she was about. Today I've found out she's more like me. Straight forward, artist, creator, sensitive about the history and the mistreatment of Black people through all forms, and having white people and gays wanting to hang out with you. Damn I like her, she's cool to me. NEVER LISTEN TO DA MEDIA.
It sucks cuz I actually agree with a lot of her points and like that she's passionate and tries to educate herself on how the world works I just don't like the way she goes about it sometimes cuz the way she articulates herself on twitter often comes across just as problematic and racist as the society she's railing against, even though she is OFTEN, but in my opinion not always, right and I dont think she is actually racist or homophobic but I think she needs to word things differently to gain more credibility so people can stop dragging her and start fixing the issues she talks about.
It's too bad she fails the validity check though. since neither black culture, the hip-hop genre, or an award category is a material possession that can be owned or stolen.
Gramps Ford "Appropriated" would be a more accurate term. Her argument and frustration is valid, she just didn't articulate it well because it's so emotional for her. She can't stand back and look at it rationally yet. White privilege opens doors that people of color have to work 10 times harder to open the same opportunity. This is not Iggy's fault but she still benefits from it. Azealia takes everything as a personal attack even when there's no intent. That's youth and inexperience. She'll work through it and deal with it and will be a better more creative artist because of it. I think this interview will haunt her career for a very long time, and that kinda bums me out. But I do love her honesty. No one is wondering what she thinks. She'll tell you straight up and even though I was disgusted at the stuff she said about TI and the racial slurs she threw at him, I still respect her honesty.
DeMon Spencer What Iggy does hasn't anything to do with privileges, it has to do with rights. White people have every right to entertain for money regardless of who they emulate or what ethnic or cultural aspects may be involved. The history of hip hop or who was involved in its creation does not dictate who has a right to partake in it, whether they benefit from it or not. Once it's someone's 'right', it's elevated from the status of 'privilege', so I don't see how her argument is applicable. Banks seems to think her feelings are just that she can downgrade the rights of white people like they need to be initiated into the culture before they can entertain black people.
Gramps Ford I never said that Iggy or other white people don't have the right to do hip hop music. My point was that she used the wrong word when she categorized it as theft. I thought what she was talking about sounded more like appropriation. I wasn't stating my opinion in that part of my comment, I was merely clarifying what I thought Azela meant. I also never attempted to defend her comments, and I never said I agreed with her positions. So I feel like a lot of your comment should have been addressed to Azela and not me. My comment about white privilege wasn't about what white people have the right to do. No one's arguing that, especially not me. I think it's silly for anyone to suggest that a persons race should determine what they have a right to do. I was acknowledging the privilege that white artist have that opens more doors and opportunity to them. One example would be international markets. Every music executive will tell you that black artist aren't accepted as much as white artist are overseas. So the labels will spend money promoting white artist in other countries to get their artist more record sales and international exposure. Being able to sale records in other countries creates a lot more revenue for that artist. Black artist aren't given the same opportunity. Iggy's race allows her to benefit from this. Of course she shouldn't apologize for this because it's not her fault. It's just the way things are.
i find it frustrating too... she the was able to become the unlikely voice of reason for JUST A MOMENT before the train de-rails into crazyville. Its like that crazy drunk uncle that spews out a bunch of shit but then drops some jewels, gets you all engaged for a minute then gets too crazy to follow again. At least this video shows she's not 100% bigoted and to some degree she is more aware of the bigotry in this country/world so i make some sense how she spews what the world taught her but fighting fire with fire is not effective. Anger and resentment is an ugly road to walk and she's letting it CONSUME her completely....
Everyone calling her racist and unstable or crazy are proving her EXACT point in the video. Everyone is more concerned with who and how she's calling people out, but no ones concerned with Iggy's CONSTANT racist comments including the Slave-master lyric. Iggy loves cultures, but hates their people. Why would people want someone like her to participate in their culture?
I'm not saying Azealia shouldn't be criticized because she is homophobic and has toxic thoughts about rape. However, shes not upset cus pple are calling her out about that. Its because black people always have to work twice as hard to get anywhere even in their own game, which would be Hip-Hop in Azealia's case. Iggy even admits that her being white has given her a huge advantage in her career.
Leif Siegrist That's true! I'ts just stupid that people are going to Iggy's aid and calling Azealia crazy, just because she's calling her out. If people are gonna hate Banks, they should at least hate her for being homophobic, or racist. She just has a point when it comes to Iggy.
***** No...If you and other people around you are expecting "Chinese Ladies" to be in the nail shop and all the rest of the stereotypes knowing its racist and continue to believe it then you're just choosing to be racist. I'm not perfect and completely 100 not racist but i will fix what i say and my thinking to seperate myself from being a racist.
The cognitive dissonance between white people's fascination with every aspect of black culture and their complete disregard for black lives still appall me
Blacks were excluded from Studio 54 during the disco era. Young blacks started throwing parties in the park in Brooklyn and rapping. Hence How Hip-HOP Began. A member of CHIC was not allowed in while they were playing his music!! What a breath of Fresh air, she is.
***** With the BW v BM thing, nah. They would just decide who they wanted to reject every night. It was just a snotty atmosphere. It's a red carpet, in demand trick. They had theme nights too. That was a factor as well. Black men got in. Idk if a lot of poor BM got in...unless you're considered hot. As for the MCs, gold chains got bigger to display wealth and worth but nothing really worked because people still see skin. Funny thing about Chic. Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards were in high demand as producers. Here's some names: Carly Simon, Duran Duran, David Bowie, Brian Ferry, Robert Palmer...
***** negativity versus whats the truth/real are two different things my friend. Whether you want to admit it or not, history is history. The example of computers and IP addresses that ***** used may be true, but there are many things that were taken by africans, then claimed by whites. Unfortunately, they dont teach that in public schools. I didnt believe it at first, and im african american, but when i did my homework, its sooo true, and unfortuantely, so sad. Why cant we be united as one?
And 4 years later, I met Azealia Banks and she is real. This was a great interview. She speaks truth which is empowered by knowledge. Azealia Banks and J Cole are my soul sister and brother. Luv em both intensely.
Truth! Watching. It. Again. Because. It's. So. Damn. Good. Didn't know anyway else to type it. She actually cares, regardless of your standpoint. At least somebody is willing to potentially commit career suicide to ride for their beliefs. Super respect. Gained new/more respect for her.
"You were being difficult, .. No i was being creative " ❤❤ She explained everything and he still try to paint her in a negative light. Good for thinking on her feet and standing on what she meant
She is firecracker and so REAL. So refreshing. First heard her four years ago round this time I think. Her spirit is strong. Acid tongue but eh, that's okay. Things need to be said. Azealia should speak her mind, we all should when it counts.
I have seen lots of negative stories in the UK media about her but after watching this, I must confess I like her big time. it's very rare for some of the big hip hop stars to air their opinion on this subject.
I come back every now and then to listen to someone honestly explain racism in America, without fear of censorship....and for that T.I impression lolol
The fact that there are so many angry racist in the comments tells me that this is a conversation we need to be having. Azealia keep pushing. It's been a long time coming but I know a change gone come.
***** she didn't "literally" say that at all. And if you read her tweets as well she further explains that her problem with Iggy & Macklemore stem from them not being as good as the black rappers out, yet getting more acclaim/awards because they are white.
***** Azealia Banks' debut metacritic score is much higher than Iggy Azalea's, so it's not just one or two people saying it. If you look on any hip-hop blog or ask any hip-hop head they will say Azealia Banks is a better lyricist. Also, Azealia Banks can actually freestyle. When Iggy was asked to freestyle on Sway in the morning, she declined. Then when Sway kept pushing her to do so, she eventually gave in (after a ton of stalling) and spit some wack written shit acapella (because she can't ride a beat). Even T.I (who signed her) was pacing around the room, looking nervous because he knows the truth. I love music, so even if I don't fuck with an artist, I make sure I know WHY I don't fuck with them.
When the truth is being spoken, white people always want to be the victim. They always wanna be on the defensive. Like, you know the ugly history America has, and, someone words and opinions do not equate being sprayed with water hoses and being enslaved. Ugh. Just stop.
Wow...she started crying and I lost it. I honestly thought she was kind of a bitch looking for attention but, she really is just straight up and just doesn't hold her opinions to herself. This interview and what she was speaking out about is very serious and I agree with her 100%. I think I am a fan now.
+Sierra Smith wtf where y'all both come from I really don't give AF if she a rude ass bitch or not she speaks truth here and I love her music yea she needs to stfu but damn when have you two not been rude ass bitches and that goes for me too..nobody perfect but we love to judge a celebrity especially when we know we ourselves are bad as hell but because we ain't famous nobody knows or cares so bye to both of you and I didn't need your ignorant ass responses boo
Azealia is the rapper we always needed, she moves at her own pace and speaks the damn truth and it's sad everyone overlooked everything shes said through the years and even overlooked her talent Fantasea and Broke With Expensive taste aged well to this day and whenever she decides to share her music again itll be worth the damb wait because she puts in the work and talent.
GUYYYYYYSSSSSSSSSSS !!!! It's honestly not about Iggy being white!!! Its about Iggy doing a shitty job of trying to pull of rap and that's not ok! Are you completely forgetting about Eminem??? We literally have accepted Eminem and put him on our top rappers list! It's because he actually raps! Like instead of immediately attacking her, listen to what she's actually saying! And the whole Tiny thing, She also made a point. It wasn't just saying shit to be mean to hurt T.I.(in that case she could have easily said something about Tiny's looks) , she was saying real shit. T.v. got Tiny looking dumb ass shit especially with sound effects! Stop attacking the person who's actually point out the obvious, black celebrities ignoring black problems and black people trapped in white supremacy mind set. White supremacy have got their claws so deep into your minds, your hating everything from our own people and thinking white people are doing it better! TEAM AZEALIA BANKS!!!!!!!!
Bri Andy "Its about Iggy doing a shitty job of trying to pull of rap and that's not ok!" What country do you live in where it's inappropriate to rap unless everyone says you're good enough? Biased, uneducated opinions don't determine whether it's 'ok' to make a career in rap music, become rich & famous, or win awards. The rights and freedoms and laws of America are the highest authority in determining that. And as for her lyrics, I really doubt you are an expert and you certainly aren't a higher authority than me, since I've actually studied the arts since the very beginning. The only thing different about Iggy's lyrics is she can't rap about black or minority-related topics because she's not a minority. She can't even rap about hood-related topics bc she's not even from America. She can't rap about male-related topics either, which means that she became successful in spite of having the most limited selection of content to create from. And as for TEAM BANKS, please. She's just mad about her lack of success and reaching for any excuse she can think of to explain it. Iggy is definitely right about her attitude, especially with her ranting on Twitter about stuff when she hardly has anything to be proud of and has no room to criticize. She has all of 500k followers, Iggy has over 5 million. She should openly discuss the real reason for her frustration which is that she's jealous.
Biased maybe, Uneducated though?? I don't think so. And as for as the whole "she don't have black related problems" I sense some bull shit. Iggy (like everyone else in the world) have plenty of struggles to rap about, but when you have someone taking something from the black community and then changing it, that's not cool, the black community have to call it out because its not only happening in music but in every other topic."What country do you live in where it's inappropriate to rap unless everyone says you're good enough?" THAT LITERALLY THE ENTIRE MUSIC INDUSTRY! Lol and you "studied" music. And you contradicted your self when you said her rights and freedom but then say she's not even from here. Because that makes sense. And she grow up in the ghetto of Miami since she was 16. Yet she on stage talking about "tire marks, tire marks, wdyubduvybfdlvkhfdvidlu, boom boom pow khdbvieuvuevoje! which she stole from Kendrick Lamar. So your comment is invalid. And the whole Banks thing, she could be jealous, she could be mad that iggy stole her name who knows but Banks talk about real shit you'll never understand, listening to igloo trash.
You've literally just wasted so much time on a comment I didn't even read. Just accept the fact igloo is trash. I'm never against other races rapping but don't make it into shit, if your music is shit just call it something is. End of conversation.
Bri Andy It doesn't matter. Fact is, you made several uneducated statements. It started with you denying you're uneducated and in the end, you try to save face by pretending to refuse reading it so you don't have to feel embarrassed by your lack of education. Also, if you had ANY brains at all, you'd delete the thread because it's embarrassing for you...
Bri Andy How typical that in argument or debate, you use the 'cop-out & concede' tactic. But I should expect that from uneducated people who claim they aren't uneducated, then pretend to refuse to read the proof.
She was right about everything never doubted her and i still cry randomly at “ya wife can’t read” and that TI impression lmaoo nobody really hearing ebro though he was talking about the elite the “people who don’t feel anything” i think he was trying to get her to realize that she had to play the game which she knew she just wasn’t with it this interview is gold and will go down in history years from now.
To be honest, I resent the title of this video, and this is exactly why Azealia is so frustrated. This conversation was so much deeper than TI and Iggy, but you'd rather mischaracterize it for clicks and views, perpetuating the "angry black girl" stereotype in the process. Bye.
This interview was very intriguing on so many levels because part of me agrees with Azealia; however, the other side of me can't stand her mouth (i'm talking about the vulgarities btw) ! She is ignorant brilliance personified because she is consciously and socially aware of what going on in Hip Hop, but she is also brutally rude enough to invoke black stereotypes--and still make sense. She is thoughtful yet unapologetic. She is rebellious in speech but passionate in her conviction.
Well said my brother, i watched this interview with a thought of let me try and understand this girl views. Her passion for music and the way Hip Hop in particular is being represnted resonated with me. The way she expresses this makes it hard for me to really feel this girl, however I will be listened for her music more, maybe we older hip hop fans need a new generation artist who isn't afraid to look at the bigger picture and say things ain't right!!!
I agree with your comment. I think her views all have a basis in her perspective of life. She is socially aware about many issues, but the fact is she gets flake for it because she openly admits to disliking very popular artists. People just see headlines, but they never see the heart of the issue of why Banks talked smack.
Azealia is just too real man, She's not afraid to speak her mind, and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks and isn't worried about media. Her mouth and social media fingers keeps her career from prospering on a major level. you might hate her personality but you can't deny that this bitch has good ass talent.
Azealia Banks is the most systematically aware 23 year old I've ever come across. If you would just hear the message you would understand. Reminds me of Kanye's message that's often misinterpreted by the tone of his voice. She opened my eyes to so many things. Your a martyr for black culture in my eyes.
I know I found her passion actually really inspiring. It's refreshing to hear someone young actually taking a stand about her views instead of being quiet or simply saying the politically correct thing.
I’m a white girl who loves AB - I appreciate that she encourages empowerment for all women, while also expressing her unique experience as a black woman❤️ When mainstream media vilifies someone, you know they’re the real deal
word i dont like her music but she talking facts.. its not even so much a race issue cuz there are latinos and some whites in the hood struggling and growing up with us but the others? I cant think of a better word than "Culture Vultures" cuz thats what it is.. Remember when Lil Wayne tried to make a rock album?? how the rock community refused to accept it not cuz he black but cuz he's not from their lifestyle and background and that album flopped.. its sad so many blacks and latins follow people like Iggy, Em and them.. its past music and down to clothes even.. Niggas will spend $800 buying some french nigga shoes who dgaf bout black people or the hood instead of supporting their own people startin a clothing company.. some ni\ggas wana be white or accepted by white people so much and dont realize it....... bless day to all, this was some real shit
of course anyone can rap if they want, doesnt make it hip hop like shorty said in the interview. just cuz someone isnt singing doesnt mean they're rapping.. i have no issue with white people, its white people who didnt grow up in the hip hop culture using the hip hop culture.. i cant put it any simpler
Hope the same thing doesn't happen to Grime
It's true it's happening. I think maybe people are more racist than they think, maybe without realising, and they'd rather listen to a white artist. I hate Adele, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Leona Lewis.
lol..Leona Lewis and Emeli Sande, both mixed...couldn't give an example of a black singer...preferably Estelle, Laura Mvula, Benjamin Clementine... but I get your point. Black people support your own! *groupeconomics*
I see a lot of replies on Google+...great discussion.
All X Factor artists fade eventually unless they've got a blind audience or real talent (Olly Murs the only one with any real talent in my opinion). anyway
Laura Mvula*
She isn't a bad person she is just very very emotional and this gets her in trouble a lot she speaks whats on her mind without any filters. She is a brilliant musician and I'm a huge fan.

Exactly
I love how justified she feels in her anger. People are always so quick to call black women angry. But any black woman in America who isn't angry is walking around with their eyes closed. It's impossible to remain blind to all the prejudice, all the stereotypical projections consistently thrown on the back of black women. And it makes me just want to say to other people judging us for the anger and the bitterness: you try being me for one day and see how easy it is for you to keep on keeping on, smiling all the while.
Tell it! That's just a trope that they put on us to try to invalidate our arguments.

She’s just a hater
Robbie Baker exactly tyler has the same rants on twitter and nobody says shit and i'll admit I'm a fan his too
Please name the Hip Hop Legends that Tyler The Creator has dissed like Azealia has over the last 4 years; he hasn't burned his bridges like Azealia Banks has & Tyler the Creator is a clown, everyone knows he likes to joke around.
So come back with a response on that please.
tyler isn't ignorant though
unlike azealia banks (or at least that's how she comes across)
I deeply dislike Ebros antagonistic, psuedo paternalistic approach. I don't think it suited the interview and even with the marketing of this, I think it was a real disservice to the content. She said some really amazing things here.

SexyDisability thank you 🤧❤️

Her message should be received whether she uses “derogatory” terms or not. No, it’s just that you feel uncomfortable with what they said and need any reason possible to push it away from your conscious mind.

Just my take on things.
exactly what shes saying
your post really doesn't make sense.
Tom Colvin
Stopped reading when you began to mention album sales.

It's funny how white people want rap to be a "blank" culture when it's not.
it's ours the little things we black Americans do have they try and take credit for why is it so hard to accept the fact that hip hop is black culture?
blacks don't own hip hop
But u can't discount a rappers talent based on whether they are white or not...though mainstream music is guilty of that.
its literally a music genre lol. how people express themselves, how tf can someone own that just based on the color of their skin?

I'm definitely gonna look up her Shit from this point forward deserves to get Looks without this Ongoing Fuckery in the music industry.
Seriously, I love seeing an artist that's actually PASSIONATE about the art form and not just on some too cool 'look at all the shit I got and how banging I am and the drugs I do and all the bitches I'm fucking' tip. That shit has gotten old and corny.
Sean Ulloa I'm super excited for Tink. Have you heard Chizzy? I love her, too.
Sensei Aishitemasu nah I'm gonna Check her out Definitely I'd be shock if few of these artist don't catch people's eye though Female MCs in 2015
Sensei Aishitemasu please make a video about this next week
If you're interested, her Fantasea mixtape is STELLAR.
12:50 made my heart skip a beat. She can sound vulnerable and tough in the same sentence and there both genuine. Artists like her don't come along too often.

As a black woman i understand her absolutely completely in entirety period
Let me be free.... love that
Azealia Banks is a very...interesting character.
I agree
It's just like Ye. When rappers give a fuck they call them crazy. Shit is wild.
stop (about kanye). lmao smh.
***** Thanks babe!
What she said was all true. What did you disagree with.
People keep mentioning how they hate her personality and vulgarity as far as her opinions, yet love and praise how vulgar and brash Tupac was. Not saying anything about talent, specifically comparing their talent, but there are definitely double standards as far as the way men and women express themselves and how it's received.
Absolutely!
Gender oppression
Yeah exactly. I was thinking that this whole time, the condescending attitude for her emotion/passion, trying to pacify her, and tell her how it is how to act when she's obviously saying she's fighting against ev to yone trying to shut her up and constantly portray her a certain way just bc she actually gives af. But simultaneously runs circles around them (overtly &covertly) trying to trip her up.. lol
Her T.I. impression is hilarious and so accurate 🤣
👍👍👍👆
Right.
agree!!
+altovise14 your comment nails it or me
she still is a bit overdramatic tho
Her interviews are always such a cultural moment.
Iggy Azealea has said some crude things but Azealia banks is no one to talk.
Leif Siegrist That's true! I'ts just stupid that people are going to Iggy's aid and calling Azealia crazy, just because she's calling her out. If people are gonna hate Banks, they should at least hate her for being homophobic, or racist. She just has a point when it comes to Iggy.
Mcso That's why I hate Banks, She's homophobic and racist.
This has aged so beautifully for Azealia Banks.
She fully deserves it
The cognitive dissonance between white people's fascination with every aspect of black culture and their complete disregard for black lives still appall me
catmon143 Yeah , it's a mind fuck if you are a Black person to try to wrap your head around.
catmon143 Move to Liberia dummy there is not a white man in sight.
talleyrand heyheyhey SHuT thE FuCK up
catmon143 Fuck you
talleyrand don't be rude, plus there is always going to be whites everywhere so the best we can do is get along with them fucker!!
Wow crazy she got all that hate but ended up right about everything.
I mean She had it for a reason
Blacks were excluded from Studio 54 during the disco era. Young blacks started throwing parties in the park in Brooklyn and rapping. Hence How Hip-HOP Began. A member of CHIC was not allowed in while they were playing his music!! What a breath of Fresh air, she is.
Oh and i purchased the 212 album and the Broke with expensive taste.
Thanks for that. I had no idea.
Anderson Brown
Yes to everything. You know your stuff. I purchased all her stuff and it's BANGIN"!!
*****
With the BW v BM thing, nah. Here's some names: Carly Simon, Duran Duran, David Bowie, Brian Ferry, Robert Palmer...
that's real
I see a lot of culture vultures disliking this video.
***** www.blackinventions101.com/blackinventors.html A black man invented ".com" .. soooo shut the F Up
Jack Thomp Prove me Wrong
***** negativity versus whats the truth/real are two different things my friend. Whether you want to admit it or not, history is history. The example of computers and IP addresses that ***** used may be true, but there are many things that were taken by africans, then claimed by whites. Unfortunately, they dont teach that in public schools. I didnt believe it at first, and im african american, but when i did my homework, its sooo true, and unfortuantely, so sad. Why cant we be united as one?
***** whites definitely didn't invent shit! what's ur point?
***** yeah a black man invented the Internet
Azealia Banks is a passionate woman
And 4 years later, I met Azealia Banks and she is real. This was a great interview. She speaks truth which is empowered by knowledge. Azealia Banks and J Cole are my soul sister and brother. Luv em both intensely.
YA WIFE CANT READ!!!!!
Iggy stole Azealias's name. If you think Iggys music is better...you have a problem.
You high? Or just plain stupid?
A mental problem
God, Stephen is right. Research on sth then only type shit dont be a illitrate ur whole life
My respect for her. Seriously. I LOVE HER!!!
interview is classic.. still watching in 2018
Watching it again because it's so good.
Right I've watched it like 11 times I swear.
I've watched it at least five times. Modern gospel.
Greg B Icky Azala fan?
Truth! Watching. It. Again. Because. It's. So. Damn. Good. Didn't know anyway else to type it. She actually cares, regardless of your standpoint. At least somebody is willing to potentially commit career suicide to ride for their beliefs. Super respect. Gained new/more respect for her.
steve nicin' I have it on REPEAT! Such a good interview and I'm so glad it went viral.
Ebro tried to slick play her and she caught it every time, even in her eyes.
She’s incredible, she’s very smart she just doesn’t know how to control her anger
Rosenburg is genuinely so concerned in this interview. He gets it.
Raye Will
I thought I was the only one who noticed
Raye Will HE IS NOT CONCERNED. He doesn't give a fuck
"You were being difficult, ..
No i was being creative " ❤❤
She explained everything and he still try to paint her in a negative light. Good for thinking on her feet and standing on what she meant
I'm fuckin with her she got more balls than most of these so called gangsta rappers.
I fix wit her.
Loll me too
Whenever I feel down or mad, I watch that impression. It makes me pass out! Whooohoooo!
Ugh. Just stop.
Lol what? She literally talks out of her ass.
I agree
Give this girl a reality show, she's honest and vocal, reality show gold!! She could be the new, New York! lol
Okay, Calm down
How can you give a racist this oppurtunity! U need to wake up n smell the damn coffee
FUCK YEAH
I love Azealia Banks
DIRTY Pig thinks she can get famous by being racist
We would’ve jumped TI😂❤️I like her

Wow...she started crying and I lost it. I honestly thought she was kind of a bitch looking for attention but, she really is just straight up and just doesn't hold her opinions to herself. This interview and what she was speaking out about is very serious and I agree with her 100%. I think I am a fan now.
She is a bitch
No she's still rude and a bitch
+Sierra Smith wtf where y'all both come from I really don't give AF if she a rude ass bitch or not she speaks truth here and I love her music yea she needs to stfu but damn when have you two not been rude ass bitches and that goes for me too..nobody perfect but we love to judge a celebrity especially when we know we ourselves are bad as hell but because we ain't famous nobody knows or cares so bye to both of you and I didn't need your ignorant ass responses boo
She has only been relevant the past 3 years for going at actual celebs on twitter. TI wiped the floor with her ass a couple months ago.
Mackenzie Rose Why are yall talking bout this here, go comment on someone else's post I could care less
Bri Andy "Its about Iggy doing a shitty job of trying to pull of rap and that's not ok!"
What country do you live in where it's inappropriate to rap unless everyone says you're good enough?
She was right about everything never doubted her and i still cry randomly at “ya wife can’t read” and that TI impression lmaoo nobody really hearing ebro though he was talking about the elite the “people who don’t feel anything” i think he was trying to get her to realize that she had to play the game which she knew she just wasn’t with it this interview is gold and will go down in history years from now.
so well put i agree
To be honest, I resent the title of this video, and this is exactly why Azealia is so frustrated. This conversation was so much deeper than TI and Iggy, but you'd rather mischaracterize it for clicks and views, perpetuating the "angry black girl" stereotype in the process. Bye.
Exactly. It is soooo much deeper than that & yet, that's mainly what's being taken away.
preach
Yo. This girl is dope!!!!!!! She is ahead of her time. That's why she is having so many "problems". She needs a good mentor though.
Swear
That’s all she ever needed and Hip-Hop failed her
This interview was very intriguing on so many levels because part of me agrees with Azealia; however, the other side of me can't stand her mouth (i'm talking about the vulgarities btw) !
That pretty much sums it up for the majority...
I agree with your comment. I think her views all have a basis in her perspective of life. She is socially aware about many issues, but the fact is she gets flake for it because she openly admits to disliking very popular artists. People just see headlines, but they never see the heart of the issue of why Banks talked smack.
She is a young woman..
Well said!
I LOVE HER INTERVIEWS. She is SO passionate and makes so much sense💓real women stand up
Wow she's so real in this interview. I commend her for how passionate she is.
Azealia is just too real man, She's not afraid to speak her mind, and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks and isn't worried about media. Her mouth and social media fingers keeps her career from prospering on a major level. you might hate her personality but you can't deny that this bitch has good ass talent.
no she's a bitch
+Xavier Ricks bruh you're a bitch. Fuck outta here
Lol no she's terrible.
+Xavier Ricks just like Ebro said, she lets her actions speak for herself not her music.
so true
Re-watching in 2016 for inspiration! lmao Go in AB!!
RIGHT GO OFF GIRL WITH YOUR BAD SELF SPIT THE TRUTH
You go boy
Rewatching this in 2018 for inspiration
5 years later and this is still relevant.
Rosenberg & Laura acting like they couldn't laugh when she was imitating T.I lol they both looked right at EBRO before deciding not to laugh
Whenever she "messes" up on social media....I will always come back to this to remember who she truly is. #HerPassion #HerLove #IseeYOUAB
Me too 😢
Same here
word i dont like her music but she talking facts.. its not even so much a race issue cuz there are latinos and some whites in the hood struggling and growing up with us but the others?
Word
You don't have to be from the hood to rap. & what lifestyle do you have to live to make rock music?
of course anyone can rap if they want, doesnt make it hip hop like shorty said in the interview. just cuz someone isnt singing doesnt mean they're rapping.. i have no issue with white people, its white people who didnt grow up in the hip hop culture using the hip hop culture.. i cant put it any simpler
dblocknyc please don't disrespect em like that he as hip hop as it gets
TRUUUUUUU
