Something is out of whack. Common problem is partly plugged idle jets. The orifice is very small and is easily blocked by deteriorating gasoline if the vehicle has sat for any length of time. The methanol attracts moisture which is corrosive to inner carburetor parts. A quick disassembly and clean out can usually correct many issues paying particular attention to the small idle jet.
Agreed, I was just thinking the same thing. The carb probably just needed a cleaning of a small adjustment. I ride a 1990 FXSTC with the stock CV carb. Once it's dialed, it runs really good, not sure about that S&S, but it's probably similar.
its all about the tune. i have an S&S E on my 85 FXWG and the thing fires up like nobodys business usually with no choke unless its below 40 degrees. the guy i bought it from had the thing tuned up pretty good, i havent had to touch it aside from a little little idle adjustment
Or he could set the idle up where it is supposed to be. I have a Mikuni HSR42 on my '95 Wide Glide and it does fire right up, but the Mikunis make a EVO lose that awesome potato, potato sound.
i PUT A THROTTLE TYPE FRICTION CRUISE CONTROL ON MINE JUST SO i COULD IDLE HER UP A LITTLE SO SHE WOULDNT STALL OUT WHEN SHES ON THE KICKSTAND AND LET HER GET UP TO OP TEMPS .
Hey Tod... Happy New Year. lovin' all your videos, i have a question for you... i know i should'nt take notice off internet horror stories, but what are your thoughts on the Evo INA stock cam bearing? are they as bad as people say or is it maybe 10 out of 100 bikes that suffered? sorry to bother you... but you are the man! take care. W.
hey todd I just bought a 91 fxstc, same as this 95 , same color, never touched, stock carb, seat , everything , 9,800 mile's , I paid a little under $ 6,000 . feel good to have a untouched bike I know it's going to run a long time, hope all's well.
I sold my fxr , and went metric for three month's , I just couldn't take it , so I had to buy another one , I would look at your c.h and get sad that I didn't have my Harley, but that's all over now. take care of your self , talk to ya soon.
+HuntingHarleys Right on the nail man! love your comment: "good to know your got a real bike again!", specially coming from someone like you who has a great knowledge about harleys. Nothing like the style and rumble of these machines, love both of mine and the history behind them; history that comes to live when you show us the fathers, the grand and the grand grand fathers of our modern harley cycles; I've just checked out one of your countless videos showing this rigid, red shovelhead from 1976 with the primary open belt drive and i believe so far it is my fave one, that scoot is mother fucking cool!!
I've never ridden a motorcycle ever in my life, but have wanted a Harley for at least 15 years. I just bought my friends 97 Softail Custom with 13K on the engine. Did I bite off more than I should chew for a beginner, or do you guys think I'll be fine as long as I practice properly?
Buy yourself a dirt bike..something you can put your feet on the ground, take it to the dirt and get good. Pull a few wheelies and power slides, then you're ready for the street. Riding is one thing, reacting in an emergency another.
@@HuntingHarleys Roger that and thanks for the response. I like that plan and will do exactly that. I haven’t been this excited for anything in years though. Hopefully see you guys out there someday when I’m ready.
Actually you should take the Advance Rider's Course. In the basic course you might have a 250cc in a parking lot, but in the advance course you ride the bike you own. Practice and learn with it. I did that with my 1999 FXSTC and I will never forget what I learned about braking distance.
Looking for this exact same bike, is it for sale? Can we get in contact or anyone can hook me up with a closest to original 1996 fxstc states blue pearl colorscheme ?
I have a 2009 fxstc softail custom. It's injected of course and idle is a little faster, but this bike is a dream. Six speed tranny with 157 mph top end on dyno. I had it up to 150 to see, and said this is more than enough. 96 cubs. I bought it brand new, so I paid too much for it, but this bike won't be sold. It will be passed down.
I had a 99 softail custom, stock with a Harley badlander on it. I got a lot of pussy on that bike but when I got off it my hands were numb from the shaking haha

It takes like five minutes to warm up and run right. Gotta choke it for a while.
Jet it properly and you won't have those issues. The EPA 🇺🇸 requires less than optimal jetting (lean)
These bikes are fun to play around with. You can change stuff around. Pipes and Apes and wheels and add chrome.
THAT'S ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL BIKE. FELL IN LOVE WITH THAT ONE TOO. ALWAYS DID LIKE SOFT TAILS AND WIDE GLIDES.
You and that bike fit together well.
Beautiful machine. I love that blue.
BEAUTIFUL 96 FXSTC BROTHER
Fxstc. The quintessential Harley.
Man, that bike is beautiful..
Thats a beautiful bike 👌
Recently picked up a 95 softail custom. Looks pretty similar to this one 😎🤙
Wayne. Some years had bad cam bearings. Most years did not
👍👍FXSTC. Beautiful bike. Babe magnet for sure.
Open wallet remover Credit card order 42mm mukuni carb problem sovled...mukunis run like efi even cold
Or just properly warm up the bike before riding. Little hint, it takes more than 30 seconds.
Warm up helps yes but nothing like a mukuni

So does my Stage 1 CV.......without the pocket book dent, or the fuel sucking sound of the Mikuni.
Same year and colour as mine mate!
I have a 2002 FLSTC I wish it was an Evo. I think I will sell my 01 road King and track down a good Evo Softtail.

What's the deal with the missing turn signals on the right side? Seems odd that they're both gone.
Eight years later still no explanation!

how I got it, people just can't tighten bolts

jojojeep1 awesome! The 91 to 96 is nearly the same bike, just decal and sometimes paint differences

your funny, but your not the first one to say that.

Only carburetor's can give you that slow sexy Harley chuga chuga
gerry3x Yes but most of peoplz wants this horse run dound but this is too slow rythme for mecanics and this is slowly damaging the engine.
Nice! I've got the same bike but mine is purple!
I'm looking for thus model any recommendations where I can find one?

Worth about 4500 , still. A very nice bike 👍
Today, then 9500
@@HuntingHarleys They still fetch 7-8k here in The UK had one years ago regret selling much cheaper there.
23k in Australia
I thought about going into business for myself and shipping motorcycles to Australia. But the Pandemic put and end to that 😠
Aftermarket grips and handlebars
Que hermosa moto 😍🥰😘
what kind of bars were those.....rise size? pull back?
R Tanner pull backs with risor's built in. Exactly what size I don't know, this is how I bought it

i have a 93 fxstc and im original owner too i cant get rid of it either,,, its the best classy bile my kids will have it if they dont bury me with it
the sound coming out of the bike is not normal, there seems to be a problem.
Different exhausts create different sounds. Absolutely nothing wrong with that machine
I feel bad for people without mukuni carbs they don't realize how much life can be easier
Cool bike! Would love to see it cruising!
Well worth say $3500
Очень красивый мотоцикл внешний по техническому состоянию г****и вообще Харли г****

No vibration on mine, but the pussy factor is still there. Say hey to upgrades.
Clean that Carb and adjust those Valves...
Sound like lion roarrrrrr
I don't like the Fat Boy wheel they put on the rear of these bikes. Easy fix though.

Aftermarket rear rim and pipes aren't original(no crossover)
You are thinking of another machine. This one never came with a cross over and the rear wheel is absolutely original
What a noisy wreck !
And sounds better
I got an 89 fxstc that looks way better than that one
Kristi Ford bet my 97 looks better than yours
S&S carb junk👎🏻
At least put a cv carb on and tune it. S and s is junk
