    About the symposium:
As HIV medicine progresses, treatment objectives for individuals with HIV evolve. While viral suppression was once the primary goal, the field now embraces a holistic approach to address immune system responses and inflammation. HIV infection profoundly affects the immune system, posing clinical challenges for those living with it. Although many experience CD4 cell count improvements and better CD4/CD8 ratios with viral suppression, some highly treated patients may have subdued responses, in addition to persistent chronic inflammation.
This symposium focused on understanding HIV's adverse effects on the immune system and inflammation. We highlighted novel interventions aimed at improving clinical outcomes. Speakers delved into immune system response variations among different HIV subpopulations, the clinical impact of chronic inflammation due to HIV, and detailed examinations of GP-120 and other inflammatory markers to better HIV clinical care.
