That was a lot of technical stuff that I didn’t understand one bit of. So what is an Albedo map again?

Wow, this was very useful. Straight to the point and well explained.

Albedo is just the base color of an object. An albedo map is just a fancy name for an image texture.

More than happy to have shared it! I think it's important info that isn't as readily available as it should be. Im glad you feel the same! :)

This is a great series! Question: in 0:16, does "reflectance values" also refer to the color of the metal? If not, how could you change its color if not using the albedo map?

Good question! So in this instance, "reflectance values" essentially means the colour of the metal, you are absolutely correct! For the metalness workflow, an Albedo map will describe the colour for both metals and non-metals, however from a scientific standpoint the light being reflected from both types of surfaces isn't exactly the same, thus the different names for their respective "reflectance values".
Long story short, an Albedo map will tell the shader what colour to give your metals and non-metals. :)

It stands for "Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function" and is a function of consolidated optics concepts that is used for mimicking real world lighting. This video here will be able to "shine a bit of light" on the concept (sorry, I had to): ua-cam.com/video/ifMLt6XUpNU/v-deo.html
