For anyone that doesn't know, you can adjust the oil output on the bottom of this saw for too much/little oil or different weights. Look for an adjuster screw with +/-.
I’ve got a small brush with the combi can and brush off and around the caps before refuelling/filling with oil. Have a quick slap down of clothes that could drop debris into the tanks. I figure it takes a couple of minutes - but if there’s nothing extra going into the tanks, I don’t need to worry about it afterwards. If there’s sawdust on the thread as I remove the cap, it gets wiped off. Helps keep the O-rings good.
Chain oil is the best to fix cos you know it should go in to the tunnel and come out of the other end and somewhere in between is the problem. Schmutz is usually in play. Good video 👍 Merry C
Pressurized / cleaned out vent hole did the trick. If my old 455 ever develops this problem, I’ll know where to start. Only time it didn’t want to oil, hole in the bar was plugged up. Laaaaaater
@ that’s the way its been for years. If have you return you must have done ok. I’ve changed that. People deserve at a boys and you need to do better next time. You’d be surprised how much people improve.
I Wonder if He Was Cutting With His Oil Tank Cap Off then Said Uhh Oh When His Bar Started Smoking From No Oiling and Filled It With bar Oil and Then Installed The Cap 😳😳😳😲 Merry Christmas Scott 👍🏼
It is easy to get some chips into the tanks and maybe it would help if the manufacturers would raise the fuel and oil filler spouts a little. Dull chain making fines will realy make it difficult to keep the tanks clean.
I was putting a coil on blower today and forgot to put the gas tank back in place before tightening the housing to the block. Two steps backwards to go one forward. Lol

You struck oil! Thanks for the tour and explanation.
Thanks for watching!
👍 Another fine diagnosis & fix!
Thanks!
That little oil hose was screaming................ "put me back in coach!"
Bench warmer oil hose.
But once he got in, he did great oiling, ran down the side! I’ve often heard “Bigger the blob, better the job”! 🤣🤣
@@rcf8367 There may or may not be some truth to that.
That was just incredible how much wood was stuck in that tank, Scott. Great fix my friend.
Yep! I saw the oil hose sitting there, lol.
I'm the only one that didn't see it!
@
You were pretty busy, my friend.

It takes less time to be careful than it does to respond to the problem of not oiling. Good plan.

Thanks for watching!
I keep a 2 inch paint brush ready brush off gas and oil fill.
That seems like the best way to do it in the field.
Have a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year, Scott....and Thanks again for taking the time to post your excellent videos.
Cheers, from New Zealand
Merry Christmas and thanks for taking the time to watch!

That plugged hole is a common problem.
U forgot the oil line but a great learning experience with the saw
Thanks for watching!
Great video, Scott!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!! 😊
BEST wishes for 2025!
Thanks Erica! Merry Christmas!
Must of been a Friday with 15 mins to go to closing time and a cold one waiting for you with your name on it! Thanks for the video Scott!😀👍
Stuff happens :-)
Thanks for another interesting video. Merry Christmas Scott.
Merry Christmas!
Unbelievable, thumbs up great video
Thanks for watching!
nice job as always. Merry Christmas buddy.
Merry Christmas!
I use brake spray to clean off caps before I fuel or fill oil tank 😮
Keeps trash out 😊
Thats a good idea. I wonder how a can of compressed air for electronics might work? Not sure of the cost comparison.
Great information. Brought up procedures that I’ll put into practice. What did the guy do when you handed him a cleaning bill?
I only hear about it when they complain and I heard nothing. I guess he was alright with the bill.

Lol, the discharge tube . I have a 435 E apart on my bench now . Waiting on pump and worm gear . 😮
Good luck with the repair!
Im guessing what you said hes putting his cap down in the sawdust and just putting it back on without cleaning it! Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Ya thats seems to me to be a logical explanation for whats happening. How else do you get so much schmutz in there?

Thats as good an answer as any. Merry Christmas!
Hey Scott, you forgot to put the discharge hose back on. 😆😆
Thanks. Better late than never.

Yes, some of those fillers are hard to deal with. We need some young engineer looking to make a name for himself to redesign the "hole".

I just did this yesterday to my 460. The dirt got in behind the worm gear and stopped it from oiling. 30 mins to fix and she was running again
Good job with the repair!
Didn't install oil line
Ya I forgot. Thanks for watching!
I'm guessing the person spilled their oil jug into the sawdust, and not being a wasteful-sort, just scooped it up from the ground... 🙄🙄😉😉
Lol! I bet thats exactly what happened because that thing was full of schmutz!
@TheGreasyShopRag some people shouldn't operate a chainsaw, thumbs up great video
@@jeffclark2725 I mean...they do keep food on my table 🙂
@@TheGreasyShopRag that's true too
forgot the oil hose
Yep that seems to happen every so often. Thanks for watching!
