    Great recipe, I made chili mac in a canteen cup Sunday, 1 can of chili with beans and one of those mac and cheese cups on a wood stove.

    A grommet camp meal for sure! We will certainly keep your recipe in the camp menu file for nights when the adults do the majority of the cooking! A few weeks ago, the content creator of a video I was watching consumed a US MRE/ Chili Mac main dish. The food was anointed with a packet of hot sauce and a packet of cheese spread from the MRE for a flavor boost. That is when inspiration hit. We have been building 72 hour emergency kits for the new school year. The DepEd (Department of Education) in the Philippines began requesting parents to send emergency kits with the students to be kept in a handy spot in case of an unexpected emergency. I applaud the Philippine government for doing this. What was requested for the kits was very basic and included "a canned good." Our opinion was "a canned good" will not last long enough during an extended emergency. May I share our new creation?
    We were able to find Hormel canned chili both with and without beans at the new S&R Wholesale club, here in our province,. Our young troops prefer the no beans version. We have also found Kraft macaroni & cheese that works well in emergency kits. It is a box containing eighteen (18) single serving packages intended for the microwave. It is no problem to make this on a small camp stove, butane, alcohol or whatever you prefer. What is great about the Kraft single serving packs are they are packaged in individual cellophane packs with the cheese sauce mix glued to the side of the package. Unlike cardboard boxes that absorb moisture in our super humid tropical environment. these packages do not attract moisture and last far longer without developing nasty aromas. Basically, we cook two or more of the macaroni and cheese packs according to directions. After the cheese sauce has thickened, stir in a can of Hormel chili.
    Now, if you wish, you may stir in the other secret ingredients: 1. The hot sauce of your choice. 2. Because our troops love cheez whiz, there is a jar of that product in the kits to go with their their cracker ration. Stir in some cheese whiz and you have a super quick and rather tasty chili mac. These products will never qualify as health food but hey, it is emergency food to keep you functioning! We hope this idea will help others.

    We use Lipton onion soup mix for almost everything. Meatloaf, marinade for chicken, I'd bet it make camel spit taste acceptable. Okay maybe that's taking it a little far, but it's good stuff.

    Used to do something similar with BBQ skewers, on the top of Dakota fire holes, fire pits ect, turn them into makeshift grills, even as BBQ skewers! Never used them with a Trangia though. Strange how your mind doesn't make that last leap sometimes.

      It was, nit only was the video fun to make, but so was the meal. I gotta be honest, I hit up several of my usual spots to film this at. I ended up doing the cooking part near my orchard at my farm. The first spot I picked along the canal, I ended up stumbling across a possible crime scene. I contacted the Sheriff and they took it from there, but I spent the day in a funk. I went out to the orchard and kind of forced myself to finish the video & I'm glad I did. I'm also glad you watched and enjoyed the video.

    A couple of things I noticed from the been there , did it train of thought. The optimum distance for the pot above the Trangia is one inch. You put the main lid on the hot burner which will wreck the gasket that seals it when saving fuel ( hardware stores sell duplicate ones ) . The simmering ring is normally whats use to extinguish any flame or to make sure the flame is extinguished.

    • @OliveDrabAlliance
      @OliveDrabAlliance  6 місяців тому

      Another commenter said that about the simmering ring. It makes sense with the gasket and all.

      Yes, a recent acquisition. Somebody pointed out I should use the simmer lid to put out the flame instead of the screw on lid. I learn a lot from these comments.
      It actually was pretty good. I like spicy, but next time I will use the Ro☆Tel "hot" instead of Chipotle. Even without seasoning it was pretty spicy.

    • @pipingandcamping
      @pipingandcamping 6 місяців тому

      @OliveDrabAlliance Curious if that one fit in the Crusader stove or not. And I saw the simmer ring, but I've never used that stove as I don't have one yet. I was guessing maybe it was cumbersome to use or that you had a reason for not using it. Have you ever made like a penny can alcohol stove? They can be a fun project.

    I've never understood the term " Chili Mac". When one adds pasta to chili, doesn't it become pasta and a red sauce? And to stir the pot even more...YES! CHILI HAS BEANS! But i didnt see any comments regarding that, so let's move on. Looked very good. Can't say that I have ever had Spam in a chili. Ill have to try that.
    Suggestion for more views. Add call it Spam Chili Mac. And add the hash tag Spam or spam cooking or spam recipes. It w8ll come up more in searches. And person should have a Spam pouch of some sort!👍🏻😎😉
