RIP Steve. I remember listening to his radio shows back in the 1980s to the present day. Brilliant and as has already been commented. No internet, no mobiles, no social media, absolute heaven. The good old days of a much much simpler life never to return. So sad but so glad I lived my 20s through that period of history.
Thanks for the memories Steve.
Steve Wright RIP😢 I remember my late teens in the late 80s, working a crappy job in a factory.. Steve was the only thing that got me through the day 😊
Same here.
Same here
Same here
Those were the days no covid then no Facebook no phones no twitter heaven
Indeed so too-of course now then surely so too?!
Amen
Bang on mate. Long gone now unfortunately
Factoid: Steve Wright brightened up many a dull weekday afternoon for me in the office in the early 1990's with the banter, jingles, tunes, factoids and array of zany characters / impressions, plus he introduced me to the work of The Jerky Boys too - well worth checking out. Loved Sid The Manager and Phil Cornwell doing Mick Jagger and Bowie. No doubt he brightened up many other peoples otherwise dreary working days too. RIP Steve.
Part of my childhood has gone.
Mick, David Bowie & Elvis calling Steve in the afternoon were highlights of radio in the 80s!!
If there is an afterlife. lots of laughter on the way . Thank you, Later Steve.🌹
I loved all the characters on Steve Wright in the afternoon in the 80s.....3pm. R.I.P.
My late father almost fell off his ladder whilst painting many times laughing to Steve Wright!
Is that wall paper paste on your over alls Mr painter
Brilliant stuff, I've been listening to as much of ole Steve Wright in the afternoon that I can find on youtube, popping it all on a long playlist & driving along to it.
So inventive, the silly jingles, nutty charachters, silly noise played over records, mis pronoucing words on purpose, the posse, Mr Angry, Sid the manager & Damien the social worker. Even as he slowed down hi Radio 2 shows were still always something to look forward to on a long drive in the afternoon.
Now it's all done, RIP Steve Wright, you were brill! (That's wright!)
Phil Cornwell doing Mick Jagger and Keith 🤣🤣🤣, Pretentious Music Journalist, Mr Mad, Mr Angry, Diamond Geezer, Sid the manager, Mr Spoons, who was the camp character ? RIP Steve, you made my 80's afternoons in work tolerable ❤
Chervace The Hairdresser RIP Steve
The Pervy?
Spent 4 years at university listening to this. Still got a 2.1😊
One of my faves from Steve “ Don’t forget if you’re driving….take the car “
Great show great memories - loved Mick and Keith and especially the pervy who used to crack me up! Thanks to whoever posted this!
RIP Wrighty. Great memories as a teenager.
A workmate of mine used to bring cassette recordings in of Mr Mad, funny as fook. Steve Wright was awesome.
The Mick Jagger used to totally crack me up. Listening to this again after all the years, it still does. Would love to hear more Mick. There were some Mick appearances on the show when he would try to talk backwards. Now if someone can upload that, I will be in hyterics............ ROFL
It's a great impression! I loved Stella Street, too.
I left school in 89 and had my first job in textile warehouse, UPON DISCOVERING THIS show I realised it just extended my days a bit longer until I was in a position to walk out to something better! funny as fook back in the day
Steve Wright in the afternoon on radio 1 reminds me of my younger days. Were have the years gone.....
Me to.
You can say that again.
Simpler days when we lived for the weekend .
Loving life😊

The only time I listened to radio one was in the 80s I loved the Steve Wright show it was similar to the Kenny everot show both very funny people
Love it - miss this lots
Shame it's not still on. Makes me so angry I want to throw the phone down!
Lived and worked in UK near Tavistock, loved listening to Steve Wright in the afternoon, this was in 1989
Best character was Mr Mad, without a doubt. Hilarious.
There simply was nobody like him on the radio. It was totally different to everyone else. Excellent music and top guests but even more to me, were the bonkers of the characters and sketches. Hilarious.
BBC treated you badly in the end, just to virtue signal and tick a box.
You were one of a kind. Condolences to your family.
RIP Steve and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the joy you brought to so many of us from when we were teenagers in the 80s who grew up with you into the seriousness of adult life.
RIP Steve, what a loss, huge part of my life.
Thank you for these clips
..I cant believe he's passed on😢😢 oh steve you made us a laugh..

RIP Steve, you will be missed.
They got us thru the day back in the day .. this makes you realise just how bad things are today 🤦
Remember this in the 80 s this was brill
Masterclass of radio
Mr Angry, Mr Mad, the Professor, Ask the Maggot, the list is endless!
🙌 my early days in the workplace back in 1989 consisted of Steve and he became must listen to no matter what.
I’m not surprised the ridiculously dumb bbc haven’t made these available, you can’t even listen to his radio 2 stuff
awsome radio presenter. it will be a sad day in radio when steve wright retires
He's still going! 🤞🏼😃
His shows just been axed on radio 2
BRILLIANT radio , can't believe it's all that time ago, seems like yesterday.
This is all I can remember of my first year at Uni in 1983.
Great !
I forgot how bonkers it was
Ah amazing..! Takes me back.. thanks for the upload :)
Mr Mad is GREAT: Living in that silver thing at Elephant & Castle! lolololol!
Rip Steve wright
He's another one. Raving mad. Nearly crashed the car laughing at this on the A27.
The brilliant Phil Cornwall doing mick jagger
Who did the Jagger impression? Always loved this show. Only really listened to it during the summer holidays
The impressions were by Phil Cornwell.
@@desandmick he nailed that impression
I had to chuckle at this as I was sucking my elbow at the time.
bring back mick
Remember the weeping Mary Decker, I think she fell over her shoelaces in a running race or something like that
Classic radio!
Mr spoons.
Mr Mad
Mr Angry
Lama Man
There was also character from Northern Ireland
Sid the Manager .
Absolutely
brilliant good quality radio sadly missed.
|Anyone remember when he had listeners doing a silly dance, added a new part on each day, when he added the King Tut Strut, my workmates and myself nearly fell over laughing. He got us through long boring afternoons at Frank Birds Chicken Factory and yes, the owners name really was Frank Bird.
Ooh lovely to hear my fave band being mentioned - I was just thinking I wondered what The Who had been up to at that time, and then he mentioned them! I hope Roger Daltrey DID complain about the zimmer frame comment! 😉
I loved when the ice cream van came! 🤣🤣🤣
Mr Mad was or is Peter Dickson, the voice of the X Factor.....not a lot a people know that!
DocTheGuitar yes. On the X factor, Peter Dickson is doing a pastiche/impression of the late great Patrick Allen.
@@ricowilko absolutely correct
5:56 love this bit
Is that Simon Mayo with his handbag full of marbles on the left?
Yes it is-well it seems to be him for sure of course too!
@@brucedanton3669 Have you still got your marbles?
@@fluorosco Well is that him or not-I have no idea really?!
@@brucedanton3669 1🤣😆
Made the radio worth listening too unlike mills
Ah when the world was normal
The 0898 number sketches....rotarians....
5: Tony Blackburn.
4. Chris Moyles.
3. Chris Evans.
2. Steve Wright *close second
1. Kenny Everett.
which character used to say "you ain't got no authority"..?
When radio was king, sadly nowadays the woke brigade wouldn't allow it as it would offend snowflakes!
what a crock of turd you just wrote
Sadly missed
Catch you later Special lamas !!!
What's happening this evening Happening?
Mr Mad sounds like Charles Manson/Salvidor 🤣🤣
Just heard Steve is leaving BBC after 24 years.
A sad day for radio, it was bad enough when Simon Mayo left the drive-time slot, but no Steve Wright and I'll likely stop listening to Radio 2 now. There's very little to smile about in the world right now-2022/sky high petrol/energy bills/food/war in Ukraine... Radio 2 couldn't have picked a worse time to cancel him! The world needs Steve Wright's special brand of Britishness! His being cancelled is yet another disaster in a long list of woes for the UK 😢 xxx
EEzz mad...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂no more to say
days before culture wars and identity politics
Whatever happened to the pretentious music journalist ? Rave on !
Please get rid of the weather and traffic clips and re-post, thanks!! No pub singer? (Diamond Geezer sounds like young Jamie Oliver)
anything you say oh mighty one
Radio 1 definitely needed a shake up so embarrassing. Such a Kenny Everett rip off.
RIP our legend
