- Thurston Moore and John Moloney performing Schizophrenia on the Station to Station Train.
Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening travelled by train from the Atlantic to the Pacific over 23 days in September 2013. Stopping in ten major cities and off-the-grid locations, each stop hosted a unique Happening. Like an exquisite corpse, a constantly changing group of artists, musicians and individuals took part in spontaneous encounters and live performances on the train and at each stop along the way.
Rolling into each station, the train set in motion a happening from dusk into night. Each event, like each day on the train, was singular and took its direction in form and content from the unique mix of assembled artists, musicians, filmmakers and locations. After each Happening the train moved on to the next place with different people, performances and energies.

Maybe came off a bit melodramatic there for sure. I Just didn't feel good about it with this, one of their bests songs and particularly that part without Kim's voice as the sister. Love all their solo stuff and he has every right to play their old stuff - just prefer seeing them all do this one.

If you have ever known anyone with schizophrenia it is really, really sad. They can’t differentiate between fantasy and reality and genuinely believe their fantasy is truth/reality when it is not...

I like how you can just hear the one guitar, helps me realize what Lee was doing is more of adding color on top of Thur's foundation.

Yeah, Thurston would do the droning stuff and Lee would do more of the colorful, "lead" guitar stuff. Their styles fit together perfectly.

I'm so glad this was around when I was 16, in the 80s... I loved Discharge, Adrenalin OD, Dead Kennedys, etc., but it was great to know that the emotional "palette" - the vocabulary of emotions - could be this broad, this vast... that you could go to this kind of place (in your feelings) and still be rock'n'roll!
Holy shit fucking amazing on a train, this song kills me, two of my friends I grew up with have schizophrenia its very painful to watch, sometimes I wish I could be in their heads to help.

and my fascination with kim and lee wasn't wrong..

+Quixo667 Listen to Thurston's Band "Chelsea Light Moving" and you'll see that he contributed as much to SY like Kim and Lee. He's a master of atonal, kind of "broken" riffs
i have. listen to kim's bands. free kitten/body head. she had more of an art mind, thurston had more of a logic/guitar mind.
she gave sonic youth its "art" label. or at least thats what i think..
her and lee donated the character, thurston was the spine
And you can see what Steve contributed thru Lee and Thurston's solo albums. He makes Sonic Youth sound the way it did with his steady pulse. Some of their solo material sounds just like Sonic Youth because of Steve.

I don't wanna be winy... but I kinda liked it back then when Thurston refused to play SY covers on his own shows. I think that was respectuful both for the band and his solo career.
Anyway, it is kinda strange and sweet to see this stripped down version. I agree with people below who says its rather sad to hear him sing the Kim's parts and also you can feel the abscense of Lee's guitar. Instead of Schizophrenia, this feels more like melancholic dementia.
I feel sad for people like you who don’t get the genius of his playing. It only happened one time, he usually plays his songs. “Melancholic dementia” is offensive

very nice! Maybe it's just me, but playing music live on a moving train is so strange! I'd probably have to pop a couple dramamine. Just an idea but this is how train companies could revitalize the train transportation industry. Live indie entertainment.
