"Only Juggernaut with no mobility or CC." No, no. You understate this; he was the only CHAMPION in the entire game with neither mobility or CC. Even the W-magnetism thing you mentioned came later, and originally W only applied to one target.
I went through every single champion and their old abilities to verify if this was true or not.
Assuming we're not counting old Morde's W as mobility (since the movespeed is impractical to actually obtain), there is indeed no other champ that hasor had zero mobility or CC. The closest there is to that is old Vlad who only had +movespeed and a slow on his pool.
@@kavenxiong5521 pool itself is basically mobility too tho
@@kavenxiong5521 old viktor
@@lcook51 To be clear, movespeed buffs are counted as mobility. It's just that both the slow and movespeed on pool were quite weak to the point that it's the closest thing to not being either mobility or CC

I loved the triple bonk, yeah it's slow for modern League but there was just something so satisfying about hitting that third BONK and just ending a champions entire existence.
It does sound fun to be able to press q and be going in your head "you have 3 seconds before you are erased from existence."
@@yharleththegrandobserver236 Even better when you could go full AP and deal like 1.3k damage to an adc with an undodgeable auto.
Last bonk was always satisfying.
This! I love his Q the most. And I think he would be better with the old passive, Q and W
Imagine old Q with hail of blades.

Giant smile on my face when I saw the model. I’m glad they kept part of his soul in the game

Same all the good times I remeber when with old mord I tank for the dragon the dragon won't abandon you like your adc
Rip Pokémon master mordekaiser, single handedly run down solo lane with Herald and Dragon.
Dude i remember yelling "ITS TIME TO SIEGE" when having herald and dragon with me damn i miss my scaly boi but sending people to brazil is fun too
The true crime of the rework was that they didn't give his abilities names inspired from heavy metal songs
They are named after songs and bands. They are just a little more obscure
@@Jan_Iedema The way they explained that, it sounded more like a coincidence. What's really dumb is that his Q could still be called Mace of Spades, his E could still be called Syphon of Destruction and his W could be called Iron Man instead of his passive. Those names would still fit the abilities.
one thing i do like about the new morde, is his lore
he became someone who overcame death, and even started to control over it
like how badass do you have to be, being so angry about after life, that youve started to control it
The only thing i like about new morde:(
He litteraly created the afterlife
Only thing good about new Mordekaiser is lore and visuals
the lore never changed ya dingus
@@kaasloo1303 wtf are you talking about
Its litteraly a new lore
I would love to see riot take the bot lane aspects of old morde (dragon ghost and W) and reuse them for a brand new juggernaut designed specifically for the bot lane.
bot lane morde was one of my favorite things to play in the game and now we don't have anything like that
Yeah, we have akshan filling the ad marksman solo-lane niche. Time to get that duo-lane juggernaut niche x)
That would be awesome. We need to break the bot lane metagame by adding some actual viable melee champs down there that isn't Yasuo.
I think new morde is like how morde actually is in lore. His kits fine as is and has decent ap scaling. If you gave old morde like current mordes kit barring R hed be broken given his ap ratios. Current morde is like a chad
@@VarsVerum in gold, apc morde e straight up op lmao
To be fair they have already shown that they are willing to add old, removed effects into the game in some new form. Akshan's Absolver passive is a combination of both Garen's old Nemesis system and the Summoner Spell Revive.
And they've shown willingness to use innovative concepts from other MOBA in new character designs. A perfect example is Yuumi. Look up Mina from Dawngate.
Mina attached to another hero (shapers, in Dawngate). There was an unreleased shaper that used a wall-hook mechanic identical to Camille as well (except this shaper actually went stealth while on the wall and could hold it for much longer). Basko was another shaper who had a 'twin chain' concept (his were axes on chains like Kratos) whose ultimate mechanics make up two of Sylas's skills; Basko threw the chains outward, stunning a champion on contact, pulled himself towards them, and did missing health damage. All similar to Kingslayer and Abscond on Sylas. As bonus points Basko's ultimate was called Revolt and he was, in lore, using his powers to revolt against the sort of 'noblemen corruption' that took too much from the working man/woman and kept them poor; similar in concept to Sylas's revolution of a mage uprising (though perhaps not quite as vicious as Sylas's 'everyone that isn't a mage must die because they're just as guilty).
I think it is also a fair assessment that Riot picking up several members of the Dawngate dev team Waystone helped as well; including expressing their own sympathy for when Dawngate was pulled by EA.
I miss old morde so much, thanks for talking about this
When he released I thought he was super obnoxious to deal with and even broken but now when I think about it and compared to newer champs hes pretty fine lol
The only thing broken were his numbers, but look at morde now. Completely crippled, even with constant buffs
@@volcanicviper5984 He’s not super strong but he’s still fun and fulfills that raid boss itch for me, more so than my main Aatrox
@@cerridian Fed mordes are just extremely scary, that ult is actually just amazing, you take their carry out and force them to fight an often extremely unfavorable 1v1 against a juggernaut.
Morde ult is really great in certain scenarios like ultimate a Neeko ultimate so she only hits you instead of your team. I definitely prefer that over his old ultimate. It is funny that Viego has essentially aspects of old Morde and Yorick ultimates in his kit, and they were some of the buggiest abilities in the game.
Hmm... I wonder when I heard that before... Oh yes, every rework and new champion release ever.
What I miss about old Morde is that all of his abilities (including his passive) were named after metal songs.
They still are, just not as blatantly.
It’s the blatancy we miss, why should I have to add letters to “Syphon of Destruction” when we could just have called it “Symphony of Destruction”
I was an old Mord OTP, and yes he lacked the capacity of sticking to his opponent, but his Macro and his Micro play where very strong against Melee champs, he would be absolutely good with his old W and just the shield generation of his passive, i understand the absolute obliteration of his old R but death realm is okay if you want to lock down a target and come back enduring more damage and hitting like a truck
Considering his current passive is his old W reworked and his new W is pretty much his old passive reworked, I'd say he won't change a lot if those 2 abilities get reverted. His ult though... Whether it should be reverted or not is a whole nother debate. I like his new ult better, but his old ult was kinda his identity. I feel like even if his passive and W get reverted but his ult stays, it would still feel like a different champion.
Yes it would feel like a different champion, but certainly a champion a little bit more close to what the people that enjoyed the champ were used to but with the little bit extra that he needed
@@manolgeorgiev9664 pretty much, but not the same. if you watch old morde montage, most of the outplay come from the w, e, r combo, which not only heal but generate a lot of shield.
Yeah, I picked up Morde as a midlaner just to give the finger to all assassins who were easy to harass with Q and E while their harass usually wouldn't go through Morde's passive shield, he was so easy to play too. Although as I went up in ranks, in high Gold people started knowing how to counter him by playing poke champions and being careful so I couldn't pick him as much lol.
I love the design and lore of new morde, as well as all the abilities, but I wish that if you killed an enemy in your ult you got their soul like in old morde’s kit, instead of the stat bonus. It doesn’t feel noticeable in a lot of situations and the whole commanding souls in his army could have still been very cool if they combined the old and new ult
I miss my pet dragon.
@CocoaXtv_ pet dragon with the new dragons would be op lmaoo, they do so much damage nowadays i swear
like he said in the video, that would be way too op
@@HeroX-vy9se fiora and Jax hard counter him. If he misses one ability then Darius beats him pre and post 6, and any ranged top can kite him. He is just very good against champs like irellia and Camille who are some popular picks, as once he build grevious, he can ult both of them after they ult and win
Remember that time when Riot make a poll about what ability to keep? Yeah they broke their promise.
Aside from the souls and ult over time dmg they kept everything
Passive shield, aa onhit, shield, heal, shred-aura and dmg in front of him
@@stalinjustafellowrussianco7440 I disagree
@@sheperdofthebrahs no he's not. The shield aren't passive anymore. The way W work's are very different.
The passive is basically just Ekko.
Also his Q are infamous for it's very high scaling of damage and the third hit could one shot anything with the right build.
@@sheperdofthebrahs they kept it, but in a way it feels no longer as mordekaiser. the fact of stealing life and turn the damage you deal in a shield at the moment you deal the damage gives to the old morde an unique game style of predict when you will take damage so you deal damage to your enemy, and they only take out your shield. a lot of times in mid and late game, you can go in a figth with half life and left the figth killing the enemy and having more health. that abilitie cap and complexity was taken away
@@stalinjustafellowrussianco7440 yeah thats why 1% of the league population played old morde, at least he's played now
I think you could have had both ults, keep the modern ult for the spooky factor morde should give off, but have whoever he kills follow him around with a beam connecting morde and his victim giving a visual to the power he gains from his ult, make em very transparent though as to not make it confusing. Maybe make it so every additional kill or assist he gets another ghost follows him, no stats though, would just give him so much h power and presence that he is missing.
He should be a god of death and I think those changes would make it reality.
I get the idea, it sounds cool as hell too. Having the ghost of the defeated guy in the death realm follow morde around would be amazing.
i think that's going to get broken imho
@@fenrir_boo i yhink he just means visually. Instead of the crown, morde would have someone's ghost following them.
ALSO WHAT IS MY FAVORITE VTUBER DOING HERE
New Morde was one of the biggest letdowns for me. Visually, I was in love with his new look. On a gameplay level, not so much. He became an AP darius that lost all of the fun parts of his kit. Giving him his old W and passive back are the only things I ever wanted for the champion, and I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that.
true and no ine talks about this issue. Its an Aatrox level rework
New Morde much stronger than old Morde dude
@@GCCY23 objectively not true
@@jynxed66six54 are you joking?? Old Morde to have the circle that him makes he needs to W. New Morde haves it on his pasive, three autoattacks and it’s on!! Much stronger. The only good thing about old Morde was the thing with the dragons, that he takes dragons with him.
@@jynxed66six54 I still don't get how old Morde is stronger for you guys, like seriously
This guy would be everything i would ever love in a champion if they just made him slightly more interesting to play. Maybe give him an Aatrox style 3 part Q, or a sweet spot like Darius. Champions like Garren, sett or Daruis all of something in there kit that just FEELS satisfying to use. Landing a multi champ Daruis q and chain dunking, nuking someone from orbit with Garren ult or going full sitama for a max charge Sett W. if they gave Mord something like that i would be in love but as he stands now he has no real oomf.
I think the most satisfying thing in morde is his ult, the sound effect, the theme, the visual, the concept... It just damn cool
Not sure if you knew, because many Morde players don't - while it's not quite as satisfying, his Q does more damage if you land on single target only, whereas if you hit wave with it as well as champion, it is reduced. I spent pretty much every season since his original juggernaut rework playing the old Morde and I miss the old kit so much - especially the old R, but I do believe the new guy does have a "sweet spot" mechanic in that regard.
The stats on the Q MAGIC DAMAGE:
5 − 139 (based on level) (+ 75 / 95 / 115 / 135 / 155) (+ 60% AP)
DAMAGE INCREASE for SINGLE TARGET HIT:
40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60%
I think his old kit was more interesting, but no Garen ult will ever compare to the sheer satisfaction of deleting the squishy that's been kiting you all game with a single Q
don't know isn't opening a domain expansion in league of legends not satisfing enough?
I think it'd be more interesting if Morde ult was a dodgeable skillshot but add something that can damage other champs a bit if you aim it well. Also imagine it was both point and click and skillshot so you can pick which person to death realm but you have to actually land the skillshot to do it. Otherwise it would have to be first champ hit gets realmd
One of all time favorites are coming up! Hyped up to see Vars -shitting- praise the morde rework!
I Love the new model and abilities but I do really miss controlling two characters at the same time while being my ghost's AP juggernaut/tank! Not to mention getting to own a pet dragon! And scare the enemy team shitless in an occational 6v4
Edit, Thank you for adressing the skill expression, I love the mordekaiser thematic but Ill forever hold the old one dear to my heart
Or a 2v4 with the elder drake and watch them run like ants
About the original Mordekaiser: he was never a juggernaut and had the best itemization out the all three, it was just too limited.
Original Mordekaiser was a hyper-scale lategame mage, what we called 30 min-hero back in the day. He lacked the ability to engage, but it didn't matter in the lategame. You gotta do something about him and he could easily 1v3 you. He had cheap spellvamp items, stupid burst damage (E+DFG+R would be enough to kill any ADC) and absurd tankiness due to his passive. He never built any tank items, because there was no need to. In situations with multiple melee targets around him he was immortal. Also, his R used to give ghost 100% of Morde's bonus AD and 100% of his AP, then, he would take 20% of enemy AP (yes, after boosting it) and some other stats. They changed AD thing to 50-100 bonus AD for a ghost, making it so ghost is always better than the original (since back in the day using abilities as ADC would lower your DPS drastically). The things started to get a bit awkward after they added liandry's into the game. His damage overall just scyrocketed.
The first rework: he wasn't the weakest juggernaut. He was the strongest, both in soloq and pro-play. His third Q used to deal the triple of his second Q damage, which made it so you don't even need any ap or ad items to burst enemy from 100% to zero for a cost of flash (or support engaging) with a freaking sunfire. If you really wanted, you could go Trinity. The second thing, his W passive used to give him 100% bonus EXP. Yes, that means that he gets full minion EXP in a duo lane, resulting a massive level diff and making it practically impossible to outlevel him even if you somehow got ahead. His massive single-target damage from Q made it so the ganks on him are extremely risky. The dragon ghost would straight seal the game. Later, they would nerf the hell out of him (gut his Q damage, reduce burst damage on R, reduce W bonus exp by a half). Funniest thing though, it took them quite a while to allow Morde to use W on a minion so he could be played again in a solo lane. After all of that his biggest problems were itemization and... bugs. Especially dragon ghost. Thing had a mind of their own, making it extremely hard to control.
Basically, they buried Mordekaiser after failing a rework. And once again, the first rework never built tank items. He did so right after being reworked and due the lack of need of any additional damage. At some point they've decided to buff liandry's. Some of you have seen that Mordekaiser could just R 4k HP Vlad.... and he would just die.
The second rework: he became the pure incarnation of a statcheck. He doesn't scale with player being good at him (because there's really nothing to be good at), he scales with matchup and his\his item's numbers. If you pick new Mordekaiser into a good matchup you can miss everything and you will still win. If you pick him into a bad matchup - no amount of skill or luck will help you on high ranks. You're basically a guy who's watching autopilot car, preventing it from that 1% chance that it would crash into a wall 99% of all times. What makes things worse is that he has no guaranteed damage except his autos: if people dodge any of your abilites in your R - they are very likely to live unless you have nashors or extremely fed. And let me tell you, his abilities are extremely easy to dodge 1v1, especially E (this shit is almost impossible to land against players with a functioning brain). Your R is a double-edged sword: you can just leave your team without a proper frontline, die 1v1 or be a good boy and take the enemy jungler away from drag or baron. The thing that buggs me the most is that you can qss it away and Morde would literally get nothing out of it.
Basically, the old Mordekaiser was all about guaranteed damage and scaling, while he couldn't engage on you, he won't be an easy target to 1v1. Old Mordekaiser will be immortal in your wave, first rework in his wave. During last few seasons when he was still alive, the most skill you can show on him is your ability to adapt. With runes, masteries and build you could turn a bad matchup into an ok one, and an ok one into a good one. The new Mordekaiser doesn't really have that ability. He just bonks or get bonked. At some point I just stopped playing him, it's just a shadow of his former self with a bad itemization (yes, it is awful. Both riftmaker and demonic).
Yeah, 100% win-rate and pick-ban in world cannot lie.
It was so funny he could easily 1v3 but couldn't 1v4
New mord builds is actually nashor into full tank you outplay them by only auto attack holding Q don’t use it on cd and don’t use it when they actively trying to dodge which results in free auto attack for you, only Q when they in the middle of casting spell animation(like geting ez Q or cami Q animation or when hard cc fly at your face) or enchanted auto attack animation which give you better trade since it almost guaranteed to hit. Your E using after they use dash to get away from your passive + auto attack. In bad matchup you can avoiding them find the most vulnerable targets in team fight ult them and your team just simply need to be smart and go in after the ult run out which they still have a frontline or simply picking on the most powerful target of enemies team so it doesn’t matter if your team doesn’t got a frontline when your take their frontline or their carry out of the fight too.
@@poom323 your so smart commenting about ban rate on a 3 month old comment at that the moment. Tbh idk if he was really strong at that time too, but that doesn't change the fact that commenting it is stupid.
Couldn't agree more man. I really was a morde Stan back in the days and now there's only a shadow of what he was. I like the new morde but fells like a totally different champion and with the new shity itens he seems a lot weaker
I love both Mords, but I feel the old one was more fun to play, while the new is more satisfying in my opinion, the old was fun because you just did so much weird stuff and killed everyone, while the new is a unkillible raid boss, it feels so satisfying to jump in the middle of 5 guys just to ult the most squishy or tankiest dude, shred them to pieces and then 1v4. I feel that if the status he stole in his new ult changed more his play style, it would be more interesting
1 shotting people with your Q was so satisfying
was fun to run in and tank with old morde too, even if you weren't able to be as reckless. massive burst heal and constant shielding was more fun than the current burst shield and constant healing
going 1v2 with less than half life, ending with a double kill, full life and full shield
Remember that the people who worked on his rework took away what made Mordekaiser quite unique as a champ simply because they thought the fans want more of the Mace Fantasy, and took out his ultimate because it “didn’t fit him”.
I believe that's because Riot couldn't make a good code for pet. And they hate make a pet.
@@ReigoVassal No, they deleted his ghost because it was the source of 99% of his bugs and hardest to balance. They couldn't even spend 2 minutes thinking of a solution other than 'Delete'. Even the community has come up with plenty of ghost designs that would not break the game. And even better, they decide to spit in our face and release Viego, who is even more fucking bugged.
But at least we have a cool duel realm that can be removed from the game with a 1300g item, or even better by a basic ability in someone's kit :)

This video is something I needed, I started playing league a few days after his rework only to find out that he was such an interesting and unique champ, it has gotten to the point that it is a inside joke in my friendgroup that I wish for him to be reverted.
Well, great video and I do agree that a mix of his old and new abilities would bring the best of both worlds, which may end up happening, considering upcomming the Rengar/Luciam/Ammumu mini reworks (one can only hope).

I miss my dragon friend. I wish they could rework his ult to give some version of this again. What if he used his ult on the dragon to sacrifice his 1v1 tool to gain a mini ghost dragon. It would have ranged attacks, and its strength is based on how many/what type of dragons the team kills.
As a main morde, I was really hyped for his rework, but after playing him for a week , there was no fun left, I just play him now for being one of the few toplanners I know how to play. Your ideia of maintaining his w pasive and ult would be a dream, but I think "because of the bugs" having just his old W and Pasive would be good as well.
The new design for morde is so cool. He really feels like a giant hunkering metal badass, where as before he felt like a British guy with pizza feet. I liked the old kit better, but isolating someone into a "fight me and die like a man" zone feels so fun. Gotta say overall it's a much better design and feel for new morde.
I love him he’s so fun and satisfying
@Shadow Slime you're so wrong it hurts
@Shadow Slime u rather have his other r lmao?
@Shadow Slime Zhonyas, Qss or literally just dodging his 2 skill shots are that hard for you?
@Shadow Slime no counterplay:
- fight him if u are ahead
- run away
- cc him
- dash/flash over a wall
- abilities like GP e ora Olaf r...
- use zhonia to waste time
- buy Quicksilver
- dash away during the cast
- stun him during the cast
And btw morde leaves his team in a 4v4 and that doesn't end up always well

They took my favorite part away. The abilities named after metal songs. Don’t play this version solely because of that. Made me smile everytime I saw some of my favorite songs in the game
For those that don’t know and are curious

W creeping death / harvester of sorrows (both metallica song
E syphon of destruction (symphony of destruction by megadeth

@@Cluadiusmaximus Im a huge motorhead and megadeth fan who loved old morde and the name of the abilities made it 10x better. The new morde is not even morde anymore :(
Same, they shoud have keep that it was such a cool part.
His new W is named after a Disturbed song and his R after a song from a highly unpopular thrash metal band called Evil Army
And he doesn't even say his two best quotes, "I like my weapons how I like my music, heavy and metal." or "You only need to click once fool."
2nd version of morde was the most insane champion ever made and I loved it. This guy can play starcraft in league, ooga booga smash carries with massive damage and somehow also heal allies. I was super hyped for the rework but they really did just take all the craziness away. Another problem you didn't mention with the old morde is when his cooldowns were down he literally did nothing. Just base autos do absolutely nothing when AP and AD was really only good back at the first few patches with the 9x Q damage not that it really changed much when cds down. Rammus actually has a similar problem.
Also I think old morde would function fairly well currently because of the ghost change they made a few years ago with the resets. Ghost Flash can definitely save his old self like how it is essential for nasus to have ever since it was changed.
I started playing league around a month or two before the rework. The first month or so, I learned the basics of the game on Jinx. In the next couple weeks, I tried other roles, and discovered top-lane was my kinda thing. I discovered Mordekaiser days before they announced the rework, and he was immediately my favourite design. He reminded me of the game Overlord: He looked like the MC, and his kit was bad, but fun to use. Then, almost immediately after I found my favourite character, they reworked him, trashing his design and gameplay. Now I only pick him against Malphite because most of my mains are AD AA-based bruisers. He’s just boring to play as. I was so sad and toxic after the rework that I became a Teemo one-trick for the rest of the season.
i just hope riot makes a new juggernaut champion with old mordes passive and ultimate. it was really my main love for the champion. also loved the old voice actor
This is great, I've always wanted an easy way to see before and after of champ reworks
been waiting for this one cheers boss
The rework that turned my main into AP Darius. I miss old Mordekaiser.
I started playing league only last year, so I have no idea how old Morde was, however new Morde was the first champion I played (besides Darius in the tutorials) and I must say that I still really like this champion. He’s easy to learn and play and does his role well. Now I usually pick him when I feel too lazy to attempt flashy Zed combos, but not lazy enough to play full-tank Malphite.
Love your videos, so well edited and entertaining
Aww thanks! :D
I love this type of series and would love to see a talk on things like champions pushed out of lanes like riot pushing champions towards specific lanes similar to what their doing with viego right now.
i love old morde, he will forever have a spot in my heart
Former Mord main: The majority of Mord OTPs hated the rework. I remember at one point the community raging about the fact that Riot brought in Voyboy and Doublelift in to do a review on the champion. The community roasted them alive since none of them played Mord. The main reason the community hated the rework was there were many unique aspects to his old playstyle that allowed him to play top, mid, and adc. With the rework he's only playable top or mid, he's a Darius clone so he's boring, and he's only good when his numbers are overtuned. Because his abilities are required to be overtuned to be good he's even less competitive then old Mord. Old Mord had situations where his passive would finalize a win for the team. New Mord has nothing going for him outside of "I can 1v1 and kill someone" if he gets behind he's worthless you get to late game and he's worthless. It's a terrible rework. If you want to know more look up "Mid Mordekaiser" now goes by the name AndyTwo. He has a better break down of why old Mord was better.
Watching video of old Mord makes me so sad. He was so much fun to play. Clunky and situational, but so MUCH FUN TO PLAY.
What about the morde mains before that? I remember at one point the second rework was considered the worst rework of all time. Morde mains stopped playing him or left the game because of how clunky and weird he was to pilot, plus riot pretty much forced him into the duo lane for some reason and back tracked by nerfing that to kingdom come. Personally I believe it's just a never ending cycle of nostalgia, new morde is simple and generic but lets not let nostalgia make us forget the second morde rework wasn't once dubbed the worst rework in all of league history.
@@natesaintjacques1074 I find that surprising you believe that because on his rework which was the infamous juggernaut rework. He shot up to around 70% win rate and when he was played at worlds he had a 83% win rate. The problem of new Mord being simple and generic isn't the main issue. The real issue is none of his abilities are game changing and do not bring anything that can win you a 5 v 5. Unless he is fed or his numbers are overtuned. Because of that other champions do his job significantly better. On his rework Irelia, Aatrox, and Darius were better champions the only reason why he saw a boost in winrate, and pro play during that initial release was because he his numbers were stupid overturned. Even after they fixed the juggernaut rework and brought everyone's numbers back in line Old Mord still saw pro-play because of his ability to use dragon. New Mord isn't seeing anything because unless he is overtuned he is worse then Darius.
Couldn't have said it better. Us old morde Mains made him work anywhere and we enjoyed his kit. New morde is so boring to play.
@@MusicaX79 that rework had a big winrate because he was so blatantly overpowered it made me ashamed to main him.
Once he was "fixed" he was near unplayable because his W didn't do anything if Morde was alone and he was so pathetically easy to bully out of the botlane that there was no point trying. He had no real role in the game, it was just the dragon gimmick keeping him played.
The Juggernaut Update is the worst version of Mordekaiser, not because Mordekaiser was bad, but because he was nothing aside from a gimmick.
It was a fun gimmick, but that rework was complete ass, and this is coming from a Mordekaiser OTP since s3.
-laughs in original morde- heuehueheueueheu
god building the jungle spellvamp item and the will of the ancients and NEVER dying was so fucking fun
Great vid! I would love to see a video covering the Dr. Mundo rework. It's recent, but as a long time player of the old Dr. Mundo, it did have its impact on our small community. Things like how a lot of power was shifted to utility, how he's still a stat check, and how horrible his jungle became would be really interesting to have more details on.
This channel deserves more love.
his second version was the first champion I have a straight 13 win streak on. Super busted once you know what you're doing, and the enemies don't haha
To address problem 3 at 10:06 I was an old morde main back before his most recent rework and i played him A LOT. I understand that he had some very strange build restrictions but most people seem to not notice that he was a hybrid damage champion. the ad bruiser items were extremely good on him especially titanic hydra with the auto reset it had back then. his builds were not as limited as most would assume. And yes i do miss him dearly.
As a concept I already love this series. I have been away for a while between seasons and actually never got to experience playing some older champs in their previous forms. This video alone gave alot of insight into how old Mordekaiser worked and what differences were made with the rework. I'd very much look forward to others like Poppy, Sion or Urgot ^^
i played so much old mord, one of the things that i started to like and found funny were his bugs, like if you presed q and reactivated w at the same time there was a small chance that your w does 0 dmg, or when you could make your w permanently invisible if you reactivated it while dashing with protobelt. Mordekaiser the king of bugs.
I remember stacking hextech gun blades on Morde and shredding face! That’s the item that made him a hybrid monster
I think the thing that makes him so good in his new version is the fact that he can just flat out take a critical target out of a fight for a few seconds. Granted you are banking on the rest of your team winning the 4 verses 4 while you are gone which is not a bet you should be making in ranked but but it is still a very high potential ability
Props for the octopath music in the background! 👏
Wow, haven’t been here since the RotMG days and am glad to see vars’s channel doing so well :)
I might play during motmg a bit XD
Yesterday was my birthday, and being anounced with this video was one of my best presents in life, you made my day, so thanks for that Vars :)
If they could've just changed the E to be some form of CC or gap closer, then old Morde would've been fine to this day (while not counting all the bugs... which kinda were part of his identity).
Felt way too clunky and slow, new morde is a lot more dynamic
@@sheperdofthebrahs And? Maybe some people enjoyed the clunkiness? He was actually fun. Now I tend see morde just straight up winning by only landing his aa...

New Mordekaizer in lore aspects, reminds me a character from Berserk named Skull Knight. Both of them are fallen emperors. They both witnessed the fall of their empire and they are both undead. I consider Mordekaizer as the evil counterpart of Skull Knight, without being a skull head or riding a horse.
ive been playing octopath again recently, my body instantly reacted to this soundtrack LOL
you and i have common tastes in games my friend. even your yugioh references hit home with me lol
OMFG you captured my feelings and thoughts on old morde so well. I miss it so much. I completely agree on your rework suggestion, I miss the old w specifically so much. It genuinely makes me sad every time I see or play new morde… it feels like a generic cop out. Thanks for making this video, I really wish someday riot will admit their mistake with mordekaiser, but since he isn’t ‘problematic’ rito will likely ignore us. :(
I want the old one back ...
as a relatively new player, i have no idea how champs worked before so these videos are very helpful to learn some stuff. Thank you!
Always happy to inform :3
i really loved the old morde and i miss him dearly. what i miss most was his w and passive as those abilities were so fun too use
when i was adc main back in the day i loved playing him on the bot lane just because no one understood how to counter him there, at least in low elo that is.
As a adc? As support main I used him on support role. Best tank support in bronze and silver
During first Mordekaiser, my mate was a Morde OTP. And now, I'm the Morde main.
He doesn't like the new one for the exact reasons you mentionned, as for me I find him much more interesting to play now, I used to find him so frustrating to play in his older versions so I wasn't attached to his old personality.
This summarize pretty well your video.
I really enjoy your vids, thank you
I would love to see a retrospective on Yorick. Hated by many, loved by this one.
nice work! now we need a malz or vlad one as well as heimer
This rework is what got me into league. I thought he looked so badass.

As an old morde main, they butchered my boy. Literally bad AP darius, they kept all of the boring stuff and got rid of all the interesting stuff in new morde.
Same here, the thing many people dont get about old morde was just how diverse his build paths were. Ad, ap, attack speed or tank items could all be bought and benefit his kit. Mordekaiser now is just dumbed down, ap darius losing what made mordekaiser interesting in the first place.
I don't even feel like comparing it to Darius, he just now chases you to death, at least Darius can do a 1v5 outplay properly, this Mord would get shredded if he merely tried to do the same
@@santiagobarrenecherodrigue2667 I believe that's a problem with a bruiser itemization being subpar to AD not the champion.

do i hear octopath traveler music that gave me so much nostalgia, amazing vid
Love all the metal/rock references in the old morde kit
The old Mordekaiser had something else going for him: A sense of humor.
New Morde is a genaric deep voiced bad guy. If I wanted to see a cheap Sauron inmitation I'd pick up an 80's fantasy book.
The old Morde on the other hand, he had personality. I feel we have too many edgy dark characters in the game. The thing I loved most about the old Mordekaiser was that he seemed to be having fun while being evil.
At that, all the metal referances were pure gold.
This is the guy who made me download opera GX. And im quite thankful for him
Really enjoying these videos, hope we get a Galio one
This man speaking truth, specially about how both mordekaiser's have the missing parts of the other
As a character. I couldn’t take old morde seriously. When characters talk about about morde being scary, old morde doesn’t cut it. New morde lives up to his reputation.
I don't think he was realistically supposed to be scary. He was like 3 veigars on each other's shoulders, piloting a heavy metal suit.
Plus, look at that old splash art, it just OOZES character
@@darkanddolly16 it feels cartoonish and silly which is really funny and cool since he's supposed to be the dominator
It was pretty scary when he suddenly appearead with a dragon to tank the mid or bot or bot tower and dive you with the jungler
the dude was super fucking campy and i loved it, he cracked jokes at every moment and delivered the cheesiest villain lines, he felt like an absolute moustache twirler of a bad guy and lived up to it in gameplay by being a massive prick bursting people and wearing their hp down to steal their ghosts
I've played Mordekaiser since s3, and I really miss his old kit. I like the rework, but man his old kit was so much fun.
I think I agree with most of what you said, but I have to say I think Death Realm is an awful ultimate. Especially on Mordekaiser.
It is by far the worst "arena" ultimate in the game, simply because it's so goddamn big. If the target isn't slowed they can just walk away for at least half the duration if they go straight into the wall, but there are so many times where the stupid thing timed out because my opponent simply walked away from me after I missed E.
The only time I bother using that garbage is if I'm getting ganked because then I'll just kill my opponent because they just jumped me and then I can kill the jungler after because now I have more stats because I killed my lane opponent in the death realm. Otherwise it's just not worth it.
I keep seeing everyone talking about the value of yeeting a key enemy into the death realm but all too often I ult the carry only to fight 1v4 because my team got railed without me. Mordekaiser is a teamfighting monster and I just don't see any reason as to why his ultimate should be a 1v1 ability.
I see two ways to make Death Realm an actual usable ability:
1. make the arena spawn on top of Mordekaiser instead of his target. there is way too much room for them to run away if they start at the center.
2. Make it steal movement speed. Again, you can just walk and Mordekaiser can't do shit to you without his pull.
Also removing Children of the Grave only to create Viego later on feels like a fucking insult. I hate that champion with a burning passion.
I absolutely love the new morde as he was my transition from only playing mages to being a toplane main. It was so much fun building the same items I would use for ziggs and whatnot would play out in new and interesting ways when utilized by a juggernaut.
I love these rework retrospective videos, they're really nice. You don't need to worry about what exil has uploaded btw, you're your own channel and imo very different from exil.
I like new Mord more from a design and lore stand but i never played the old Mord so cant really talk about gameplay
I have to disagree with the “lack of itemization” point. He had a bunch of different builds, atleast during season 8. Rip Mid Mordekaiser 😥
To quote TFS Vegeta
"he's so cool
But so dumb
BUT SO COOL
*BUT SO DUMB* "
DAmn, that last part with Viego hit me, as it was my first thought too. Would pretty fit him imo.
They gave his ghost as a passive to Lissandra.. *sighs* which thematically, doesn't make much sense for her character, (new) lore wise Mordekaiser enslaves souls to build the after life he was denied.
lissandra is a mess and probably needs a actual rework of sorts.......what direction? current lore she's also apparently blind but seem to be able to see in the dreams like state and she can control true ice/blackfrost?
I loved the original Morde. He was a great in season's 2-4 when I played the most. He countered poke champions well thanks to his shield and hard countered Vlad. If you picked Vlad vs Mord you'd be better off with an extra minion in lane than Vlad. Old Mord wouldn't do well in current League, but back then he was great as poke champs were more prevalent and his shield nullified that. Also there was less CC overall in League at the time. Yeah, you could kite him, but if you were in lane with minions he could regen his shield off the minions and nullify that strategy. He forced you to commit on him if you wanted to kill him. Granted he definitely was a stat stick and a big stick at that. If you were were squishy and didn't have Madrid's Bloodrazor or a similar anti-tank item you basically couldn't do anything to him unless you were fed.
I disliked when the reworked him for the bot lane. The dragon was cool, but the change to his W meant that you had to have an ally nearby or you couldn't use it. Meaning he could no longer solo lane effectively and the rest of his kit just worked much better in top lane.
I haven't tried new Mord yet. I only recently got back into League after watching Arcane, but hopefully he is good.
Adore the octopath traveler music. Great game and score.
I had to scroll all the way here with Ctrl+F and "music" to find someone that talked about the music because I had heard it so much but couldn't for the life of me remember from where.
Thanks man!

Old morde may have a lack luster kit, but it was a fun kit to play with.
I remember playing him a lot back in the day of his second rework, and it was so friggin fun suprising enemies with a 2k W heal or one shottin with his Q.
And you mentioned he didnt have any build, but his building was bizarre, but pretty solid, i remember he building tryforce into gunblade and rylais( switching order whenever he needed more heals, damage or slow), and like, yea, he couldnt get close, but at least he had his ult, that if he sees that he will get caited a lot, he could go full ap and 1 shot an adc just with it.
Current morde is a lost identity, hes generic, and his current ult can be fun, but any ppl with 1300 gold , dash, or means of untargeability, can get out of it. Besides, he still gets caited to infinity , and now, if he misses his E, he cant do shit.
I was a morde main for years through 2 or 3 reworks and loved him until this most recent where they ruined a beloved champion turning him into a stupider more bland shitty Darius. They need his old ult it's imo disgraceful that they removed it because they were too lazy to code it right but then give Viego a more advanced harder to code version of it with abilities because he's an edgy weeb champ. Now I never play morde and I'm pissed at Riot for gutting such an awesome and unique champion. Riftmaker would've been so nice on him I played gunblade rush morde.
The thing with these types of reworks is that they are basically a dumbed down version of the old champion.
It's not that they are bad, actually they're quite good. But it doesn't have that feeling of achivement when you finally get how the champion works, because now they are super easy to play them.
So they are less frustating and maybe more satisfying to use, but it misses the fun and challenge out of it.
I remember playing old Morde and saying: "Idk wtf did I just do, but I won that fight". I rarely feel like that learning new champions now
I'd love the old one back for the ult alone... that shit was one of the greatest things Riot ever made when it comes to fun
I miss old Morde SO MUCH!!! I used to be a Mord main before his rework and always had a blast. After the rework I just stopped playing him because it took out the things that were fun about him (his W and Ult). I miss those days that I could get a janky heal with W and turn a fight or just press R and walk away... If they reverted him I'd probably play him again, but I just cant play him knowing what he used to be. btw I think your suggestion on combining their kits together is a great one and Id play that too.
New Mordekaiser just sucks. AP Darius with Sauron skin and Camille ult.
Old Mordekaiser had so much potential. Just to fix the bugs, he could have summon ghosts for each type of enemy like marksman ghost, mage ghost, tank ghost etc. With the modern technology. But no. They turned hin into a disappointment. And no, certainly T is not behind the Rework. CertainlyT would have made him perfect. Its done by the creator of nunu rework and the creator of pyke. Two talented developers. Who just seened to rush the the Rework. Turning him into AP Darius. Its actually worse than the Aatrox rework. He kept norhing and they didn't consider the fact that there are no ap Juggernaut items, yet they turned him into a juggernaut
Agreed 100% old morde was way more fun
My biggest problem with this rework is that, compared to every other rework, this one did not give the champion a proper skillfloor. What I mean by this is that, there isn't alot that distinguishes a bronze Mordekaisers mechanics to a challenger one.
I wholeheartedly agree with your conclusion.
I loved old Mordekaiser for his W and R, so keeping those spells while changing Q and E would've been the best solution for me personally.
Nowadays I don't really play Mordekaiser because I just don't like his kit.
i love mord, he was the character i started to play when i got back to leauge.
