It's "prepared piano" you put various objects onto the strings of the piano to modify the sounds of each particular string, Richard did this on various other tracks on Drukqs, this one being the most spectacular, the genre comes from John Cage, as far as the particulars used for the specific acoustics to "Jynweythek Ylow" I assume it took trial and error. This video sums up any questions, as far as setting all of this into place, enjoy the tedium.
For me Jynwythek Ilo is one of the most beautiful pieces ever made. It has a mysterious quality...it makes me think of geishas, forests, springs and streams, forgotten times, hidden places...
It makes me think of geishas too! As a matter of fact, I just shot some eerie video footage in Venice of a woman wearing a mask resembling a geisha, and was looking for the right soundtrack to match the imagery. It led me straight here.
There's another video from this same channel from a different angle where you can see there are many things inserted between the strings (in to the addition to the paper) including cards, a chain, diva cups among others.
Just discover your wonderful version of this piece now, it’s beautiful ! One of my favourite piece of AFX Twin. Thank you so much for sharing, kisses from Europe !
This stuff has potential to be put into a prepared piano midi file - then you wouldn't a grand piano you can play with in order to get the sound. Of course you'd need to record a new one every time since it's for a specific song but I'd love to play this song for example.
Superb. Love the timing. At the risk of pointlessly opinionated, some Aphex interpretations 'humanise' the timing a little too much. But not this one. Xo
@774434 Most likely pieces of metal (ie. paper clips, forks, small thin bits of metal, etc) were placed between the strings at the right intervals. It's called "prepared piano". If I'm not mistaken the term was coined by John Cage. I'm not sure if was the first person to prepare a piano, but I'm guessing no.
yes the paper is part of it. she's also probably using other household objects like pins and paperclips, screws, etc. its a technique called "prepared piano" which was pioneered by the avant garde composer john cage
Richard D. James is truly a legendary composer
omg 11 years later and this is still a perfect piano cover of a beautiful song 🤧
Fortunately, great music has no expiration date.
@@BioluminescentOnecouldn’t have said it better myself
I love to see prepared pianos in action.

Now that you put it in words. I can better now thanks

@@G-lg1dx you are so fucking real for this
This is the best cover I've heard so far.
It's not even a cover, I think she might just be james.
she turns around reveal she’s making that big face lol
むっちゃ再現度高くて最高です。弾きたくなりました。
Yesss, she uses a sheet of paper to make it sound like that.
It's called "prepared piano"

Truly incredible, I can only imagine how hard it was to figure that out. Each note has a different sound to it!
I think the paper is the sheet music and the objects are wedged further in the piano

When anyone tell you, that aphex twin music is nothing more, than just an random electronic noises, just play him drukQs
Only someone who knows nothing about music would say that.
