- AR Rahman - ‘His sound is synthetic.’ ‘His music overshadows lyrics and even singers.’ Critics argue. But what about silences? In this episode Unnikrishnan delves into mystery of magical and musical silences of Rahman and uncovers their impact. He reflects on songs of Kadhal Desam that instilled a youthful energy in Tamil cinema. Mustafa Mustafa became an anthem for friendship, and other songs turned out to be quite infectious for youngsters and an entire generation. And Rangeela that redefined Hindi film music forever. Unnikrishnan has not sung a single Hindi film song, but he sang for Rangeela. How? Rahman Music Sheets - Episode 130. Enjoy.
RAHMAN MUSIC SHEETS - A series to track three decades of an incredible musical journey of Oscars and Grammys winner A.R. Rahman.

Even today, college /school farewell day is not complete without “Mustafa Mustafa” ❤
Yes. You are 100% correct. Regards
My first exposure to Mustafa Mustafa song was during the shooting at Presidency college. I was inside the classrooms writing my exams but the song kept playing in bits and pieces outside during the shooting. I was drawn to the song from that day onwards . When the cassette was released, it went to become a youth anthem. Truly awesome catching the youth vibes. Still resonating though after more than 28 years. ARR works for always towards everlasting music beyond generations.

I used to always wonder who did the alaap in Mangta Hai Kya because I was very sure it was not Rahman's voice. Now after almost 29 years I've finally got the answer in this video. It was Unnikrishnan's voice. Glad to know that.
But I think he merged with his voice and
unni krishnan,s voice ! The alaap is 100% Rahmanish😊
it was very obvious it was not Rahman voice, maybe as i used to hear many south Indian songs i was able to identify.
@@rocketmohan Thanks for backing me up. The alaap at the end of the song was obviously not ARR's voice because I recognize the texture of his voice. But everyone can have their opinion. :)
Dear sir. We are delighted to have cleared the question you always had. Thanks for your feedback. @@mehroof You're absolutely right...there surely is a layer
Umesh sir. ..you are so well informed! So updated even about A R sir's Tamil compositions. ..hats off ! Your crisp, relevant and interesting questions have made this series so beautiful, so entertaining..... Probably no one has covered A R sir's work, his style, his playback themes and singers, like this up till now ...
Lots of love to your whole team from UAE and Pakistan ❤❤
Dear Mr. Adnan. Thanks a lot. In fact Umesh too saw your comment, he might write to you directly. But asked us to express gratitude on his behalf. Your appreciation means alot. Regards.

His father Lake Sheker Master was also a great musician. The BGM of "Cochin Express" movie is international till now.
My A R Rahman ❤
Thanks sir. Regards.
Mustafa was one of the last songs ARR sang in the last year’s concert in the O2 arena, London. Nearly 20,000 people stood, swayed and sang along! What a beautiful experience it was!!!! Beauty of the song is its simplicity and his voice! Still fresh after 25 years!
Unnikrishnan- Kathir- ARR- Vaali combo also gave the beautiful melody Sonnalum Ketpathillai from Kadhal Virus.
You completely ignored Harini. That song is a beautiful duet and Harini's rendition was equally soulful as Unnikrishnan.
@@abhilaasham The comment was regarding the combination mentioned. Kathir used to give songs to Unnikrishnan in his movies, as mentioned by Unnikrishnan in the interview. Just mentioned Sonnalum Ketpathillai which was from the same team. Harini is brilliant in the song.
@@SajanNR Ok. I am a huge fan of that song as I feel it as very special creation from Rahman. Harini's voice in that particular song make me hear it repeatedly. Your point is clear brother. No regrets.
You are so correct sir. We will be discussing songs of kadhal Virus, in near future. Regards
Thanks for this episode
Fantastic singer Unni with legend ARRehman combo rocks. Another fantastic episode
Thanks alot sir. Regards
Agree with Ukrishnan sir about silences . ARR let the singers voice be the only instrument at places . That’s one of the reasons singers sound more beautiful and different in ARR’s songs compared to other music directors .
Yes... If you have seen our earlier epiosdes, Even Mr mani ratnam said this... His music has space to breath. How correct he was. Thanks.
Unai thavira edharku vidiyaluk or kizhakku.......that verse is the peak of ARR + Vaali + Unni Krishnan. ❤️
Which song?
@@fattahfaayeq6457 sonnalum ketpadhillai from kadhal virus

I think Tabu's Tamil debut was via Siraichalai. However, it was Kadhal Desam which made me appreciate her acting more😊
That alaap's extension was also used in Muthu films, as BGM where Rajini will be running to Meena wanting to kiss her. Funny no one realized that haha.
I love his explanations
Thanks sir. Nice to hear from you after a long time. Regards.
❤❤❤
Congratulations for 130th episode for success of A.R. & O2
Dear Mr. Agarwal. Thanks a lot. We are delighted to hear from you... Your wishes are so valuable. Regards

Very happy to see you discussing Kadhal Desam.
I hope this series will cover the new albums as well in thw future!
Very soon... we will be taking up Pippa. the film released in 2023
Great episode!
Thanks a lot sir. Regards
This was a wonrerful episode! We would love to hear from Harini maam in one episode about her experience with Rahman sir
We will certainly try and feature her. Regards.
My comment for this amazing episode had been long pending one. What best to title the episode cover than about the genius of Rahman's musical silence!
If I'm not wrong, I guess Unnikrishnan is the first ever singer n guest on this show to have said this and even highlighted the silence thing about Rahman. We all know many talk about Rahman's silent nature only but oversee the same serene quality in his music and yes, so nuanced his silences are in many of his songs that one cam literally feel it and may even feel like meditating then! But his melodies n these clever pauses make it all the more a stimulating n meditative experience for many listeners.
Kadal Desam too is an album that one can't help but put on repeat loop any day. It's an impactful soundtrack then and even today. It also connected and still connects so many youthful elements like friendship, college love, infatuation, lovers desperation, lullaby, joy and pain in deep love, fun and some celebrating joy moments, etc.
All in all a feel good and enlightening episode to watch!🤩
Dear Sir. Thanks a lot. You are right Mr. Unnikrishnan is the 1st guest to talk baout his silences. Before him Mr Mani Ratnam talked about spaces - so that music can breathe... Regards
@@O2india Exactly! Mr. Mani Ratnam talked about those breathing spaces in his music but I didn't think it is this silence thing he was referring at that time. But Unni ji was more direct in saying so rather telling it abstract like Mani Ratnam. So in this direct reference to the silence part, Unni Krishnan takes the honours!
😍

Umesh asked Unni Sir questions that should have been asked directly to Rahman himself instead. If you analyzed Kadhal Desam carefully, you would understand that most of the songs there were mere expressions of emotions which simultaneously was alike in both heroes & their thoughts but for Thendraley Thendraley, it was an opportunity for each hero to describe their despair & feelings in their own way. Hence, it made sense for that song to be moulded into a duet.
dear Sir, Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. You are right there are many questions that should be asked to Mr Rahman. But he may never have that kind of time, to explain each and everytrack. Since he collaberates with singers. His musicians, Singers are equal parters in his creations, thus we take these liberties of getting to ask as many stories as possible behind each creation. Viewers like you, vaildate our work. We will look forward to hear from you in future too. Regards.
"Drum -loops" were used heavily in Kadhal desam and Rangeela movies.

Thanks Sir.
Intrvt,...hrd to b hppy...
Thendrale Thendrale picturisation shows 1 hero comes into her room, plays the piano and sings the song . Then he leaves and the next one comes in and does the same . So it will be odd with just one voice. Oh vennilla is song more
About their feelings . So it wouldn’t matter .
Thanks sir. You have expressed it so eolquently. Regards.
Very detailed interviewer. He even asked about recording these songs in Telugu @09:55
