  • Sadly I only have 26 minutes available but included is a show opener by Arthur Askey (who died just 2 years later) and the wonderful Mary Martin. 11 old timers do a collective "stroll on" and the final touch is a walk on by old movie stalwarts,
    James Cagney and Pat O'Brien.

I worked in the stalls here, the guy in the monkey suit ripping tickets and pointing you to your usherette to seat you. This was my first job. I started two weeks before I turned 16 and worked for 2 years. This was sooo amazing. I was star struck. This was the years we’re king and I years with Yul Bryner and Virginia McKenna …. Boy they were good times..

I wonder how today's comedians with all their vulgarity and profanity would have gone down here in 1980? The mind boggles with how far down the road of depravity we have come!

James Cagney was in London for filming of RAGTIME. He reused to fly so travelled from New York on the QE2. His appearance here was a closely guarded secret - even from some of the other acts, as I was not clear if Mr. Cagney would attend until the day of the show.
