She's the kind of artist that makes you wish the song was about 15 minutes long
M. Victor Howard yessssss
Still!
Totally agree. It's relaxing yet so powerful lyrics wise. As usual she is spot on!! ❤❤❤
" I don't imagine he's ever been suicidal
His favorite band is credence clearwater revival"
That is officially the greatest line ever said about God in a song
How can God be suicidal if He is immortal
i joke all the time about god's fave band being CCR 😂
Blasphemy
@@klembokableamen🎉😂
She is not talking about God - but rather people's believes/religion, and how people use God's name to do things they shouldn't.
"Ever since he can remember people have died in his good name
Long before that September
Long before hijacking planes
He's lost the will he can't decide
He doesn't know who's right or wrong
But there's one thing that he's sure of this has been going on too long"
Still one of my favorite albums of all time.
ikr
Same
Yass!
Sameeeee
same
One of my favorite songs. Ever.
She is already one of the all time greats. Unfortunately, not too many people know it yet.
her first 2 albums are classics
I don’t think she cares how many people know her, true artist never do, they just do their thing 🙌🏻
@@brandonayong7656 its not me its you and no shame are my favs but her first has great classics
The best song Lily ever wrote.
I’ve been obsessed w this song for a long time. Thank you Lily!
Him = Hymn
So obvious, why did I never notice that before.
nice for sad nights 🚬🍷
yeah :)
Anyone pop in from "BLVCK CEILING - Girl Money" to see what the source material was?
yep and wondering how someone decided to sample that. Such a change between the two.
Me
i did not expect this to be the source tbf
Yeah, going back to witch house
Ok, Lily is too lame for me so back to those witch house tunes
Oh how I love this one
pure gold
One of my most favorite songs ever.
Do you think He's skint or financially secure
And come election time I wonder who He'd vote for
Skint* not skinny haha :)
Oh, thanks. Did'n hear that one.
Trump 2020.
I think she's saying that, no matter what your religious beliefs are, there's no excuse to murder over religion.
This song is about George Bush
Paula M it’s about religion?
@@emilyross8500 if Bush counts as something religious to you then yeah
This is a great song cause it wonders about the abstract idea of God. Most of us don't know what God is all about, with so many different beliefs and religions. What is right and wrong? Is he taking the piss of us? trying to make us confused?
Good work Lily for expressing something of this great confusion. The only part I don't understand is the Clear Water Revival thing.
One of my favourite tracks of the last five years - in any genre...
Lily Allen - Him - Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Would you please take me away from this place?
I cannot bear to see the look upon your faces
And if there is some kind of God do you think he's pleased?
When he looks down on us, I wonder what he sees
Do you think he'd think the things we do are a waste of time?
Maybe he'd think that we are getting on just fine
Do you think he's skint or financially secure?
And come election time, I wonder who he'd vote for
[Chorus]
Ever since he can remember, people have died in his good name
Long before that September
Long before hijacking planes
He's lost the will, he can't decide
He doesn't know who's right or wrong
But there's one thing that he's sure of
This has been going on too long
[Verse 2]
Do you think he'd drive in his car without insurance?
Now is he interesting, or do you think he'd bore us?
Do you think his favorite type of human is Caucasian?
Do you reckon he's ever been done for tax evasion?
Do you think he's any good at remembering people's names?
Do you think he's ever taken smack or cocaine?
I don't imagine he's ever been suicidal
His favourite band is Creedence Clearwater Revival
[Chorus]
Ever since he can remember, people have died in his good name
Long before that September
Long before hijacking planes
He's lost the will, he can't decide
He doesn't know who's right or wrong
But there's one thing that he's sure of
This has been going on too long
[Instrumental Bridge]
[Chorus]
Ever since he can remember, people have died in his good name
Long before that September
Long before hijacking planes
He's lost the will, he can't decide
He doesn't know who's right or wrong
But there's one thing that he's sure of
This has been going on too long
Wow, killer lyrics, thanks for posting.
I found this in an old playlist on here. It's 2020 and this is stuck in my head.
This song gives me shivers. It's so pure and true, I can't really describe it...
I had a crush on this lady. Years passed, the crush has stayed with me.
God ALLOWS bad things to happen as a test of our devotion and love. He is incapable of making bad things happen... everything bad comes from Satan and God, like I said, only allows these things to happen because He has a reason. there is always a reason God allows bad (and good) things to happen, and you can only find that through Him and His Word.
I'd agree, with the qualifier that it's about people who say they know what their god wants. Their god doesn't like people with black skin, or homosexuals, or poor people, or anyone, really, who doesn't fit with their specific demographic, and what a coincidence it lines up perfectly with their views. She then points out that two people who have opposing views have the same approval of the same god, and he doesn't know who's right - they both have approval of him, apparently. And then she points
this song is definitely one of the best ever....
Love her. From Russia. No. We do not want this war. No.
god is not human-he is spirit just like the angels in heaven. haha ccr!!
lilly allen has canny catchy tunes like
"Ever since he can remember people have died in his good name
Long before that September
Long before hijacking planes
He's lost the will he can't decide
He doesn't know who's right or wrong
But there's one thing that he's sure of this has been going on too long"
*Rest in Power for all WTC 9/11 Victms!*
Perfect how she speaks her sarcastic mind and then puts it to a sweet tune. (:
El mejor tema del Álbum
My favorite Lily Allen song right now, I don't think she is being sacreligious at all.
I think the bible is a list of storys with great points but God would tell us we take it too seriously
@SephKlas your not the only one.his song is called 'oh what a glorious day' and its one of the best tunes iv heard in a long while
for those wondering if this is completely religious, the song is actually a clear criticism to george bush while sarcastically comparing him to god himself -- supported by the lines "long before that september, long before hijacking planes" referencing 9 / 11, and the line "his favorite band is creedence clearwater revival" referencing his apparent taste in music
Awesome! I've never seen that, it fits so well to God... now I gotta listen again
Possible, considering another song on this album - "Fuck You" - was originally going to be called "G.W.B"
Proof?
@@vinwaffle7077 are u stupid?
Also CCR famous for writing "fortunate Son" a popular Vietnam War song. Ironic considering many compared the Iraq War to Vietnam even then.
So deep. This is art :)
Essa música é incrível, o instrumental a letra , esse álbum é singular a tudo que já foi produzido
Almost ten years of this amazing album and song and still love it, my favorite part 2:24 to 2:44
That part is an amazing piece of music! Really love it.
Mine too :)
It's bugging me- the chorus instrumental arrangement is clearly directly inspired by something but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called...
Greg Kursten clearly knows his stuff...
@@ChrisRichmond he produced Sia's Chandelier btw and I bet I can hear author's signature sound and techniques
love this song
Ever since he can remember, people have died in his good name, long before that September, long before hijacking planes
Rest in power and paradise 9/11 victims
How this song doesn't have a billion views is beyond me..oh wait..to controversial for the average human? This song is simply brilliant, this is what should be played on radio!! To fix the problem you must talk.. thank you lily once again
I'd imagine her mentioning God at all is more controversial to the average American than her assuming things about his nature or intentions... the only people this should remotely offend is based Radical Muslims like myself and even I enjoy the song. Don't need to agree with her about feminism or anything else to enjoy her music
anything that makes you think deeper about your beliefs is a good thing, well done for questioning
interesting insight to God
She's the kind of artist that makes you wish the subtitles were more accurate.
this song is totally awesome!
and its not offensive to any religion
good on ya lily!!!!!
xx
Lovely song and lyrics.
her mind UGH it amazes me sometimes
HONESTLY THE POWER OF HER MIND
I'm still in love with this song sooo much!
I ♥ lily allen ! ,,,yeryyy yyyyyy y Much
Quite insightful deep thoughtful lyrics- she’s amazing
BLVCK CEILING brought me here..pletty clever use of her Lily's lyrics
i lkie allen ♥
From = maprang
amazing song!
I like it
thanx ^^
Lily Allen and Amy Lee are my role models. They’re both completely amazing and inspirational.
Sarah Urie ❤️
its like a new version of Joan Osborne's song, love it!
@MyCoolRedShoes
Well I don't care if she's a sell out or not. She's a singer and the music industry is first of all a business. It isn't a form of art, it's just a good way to earn a lot of money. All the singers are sell outs, even the saint Bono... But some of them just honeslty say that they are singing just to earn money, and I totally respect that! I listen to Lily only because she's a good singer, and I wouldn't care about her at all if she was just a song writer...
The music between 2.25 and 2.45 makes me wanna cry, I don't know, it sounds really nostalgic or something like that, besides, the lyrics makes me think every time I listen to the song about a different thing, you can find something different actually every time you hear it..
This album is the best for me of the 2009 so far
I really like this song(:
"Do you think his favourite human is Caucasian?" hahaha zingg
anyone here
Xxxx
so if he can't intervene with some things, what makes him all-powerful?
Maybe one part is about 9/11 like when it says "Long before that september long before hijacking planes" I dont know correct me if I'm wrong!!! :) Love this song
+Raquel Arce Yes, this part was 100% about 9/11
The song is about god and questions about him :)
Had this song stuck in my head all day
@keaneing That song is actually supposed to be directed at George W. Bush (mainly) :)
Lilly allen is really clever :) she's grown up so much since 2005.
"His favourite band is Creedence Clearwater Revival" xD
I've never really believed in a God and never will, just listening to this song off the back of hearing about Robin Williams passing. R.I.P
Well I'm going to go out on a limb and say she's talking about the jewish/christian/muslim God because she mentions 9-11
@danitiwa That was absolutely well said. You have a bright mind, keep shining!
That was the whole idea of the album. She said she wanted you to be able to tell it was all done by the same people. Which is why there was only one producer for the cd. She wanted it to have the same feel all the way through. Watch the making of the cd Its not me its you and she will tell you......
its human nature to be evil i sadly agree religion can be good and bad most religions are not evil themselves its the people who break the codes and manipulate them for personal gain that wreck the world but lets keep in focus great song and we have a right to our thoughts all peopel do but if they force them on someone else that is across the line
the chorus is just...mystical. idk its the best word to describe it
This song is really good
i love how when people say "god" people automatically think Christianty or some denomantion if it xD
makes me smile, to think people are so self-minded to think that "god" is only directed directly at christainty :)
@1nemopaice have you ever heard of symbolism? just because she said God doesn't mean its about God. It may be about God, but i don't believe she would come out and say it. she'd add a deeper meaning to it
I love this song, my favorite part 2:06 - 2:45
Love you lily you always help me be happy
i just think its interesting that the song is called "him" which can be referring to god or His Infernal Majesty because those who are believers in the anglo-Christian faith see those who hijacked the planes on 9/11 as people who did not worship god. And in our eyes their Allah isn not god, so therefore they must worship the devil. Its just interesting how the lyrics make a person think about the underlying meaning behind something while keeping a sense of nutrality with religion.
She's not necessarily saying that god doesn't exist. Just that the violence we excuse in god's name is wrong.
This song not really about god at all. It's about humanity in spite of a god.
How Do You Discribe Lily Allen's Music.?
where in the world does the Bible say this? We are made in His image...hence he has got to be one of the other...and the Bible says He...Jesus was a man and He is God/ the Son of God. but what does that matter, He is still great! :)
I can totally see where the lyics can be taken wrong but I think the song is about how He she's sure that He hates what we have turned the world into...it's kinda a song about peace.
Yep. ):
that depends a lot on where you live, friend
Glad I found this song(; I've always wondered these things...I didn't think anyone would sing about it though. More power to you, Lily! :3
This song is very interesting, I love Lily's voice and music. Some of her songs, such as alfie, I can really relate to. Why is Katy Perry suddenly being compared to her? I have nothing against Katy, I like her voice, and she is very fun, but she mostly writes smut. (besides Firework of course, that was beautiful.) Anyway, I have a question. Anybody know what Lily's song "Fuck You" was about? I got a little confused, usually I can grasp the meaning of her songs easily, but not then XD
you sound like your surprised. lily is a good writer.
If you wanna be religous that's fine, but don't kill people cos their not. I think that's the message, and I agree. Luv ya Lily
I only know this song because of Blvck Ceiling's Remix
Genius song.
good
i am muslim i love God and Lily
@themirandaification Natasha Bedingfield is British :)
I am a Christian. that's not blaspheming, and you are not to judge. thanks.
the instrumental part between 2:25 - 2:45 totally rules! somehow makes me full of energy and i wanna jump up and just dance around :))
This song is sooo beautiful! Her voice, thy lyrics, the instrumental! Just wonderful! ❤❤❤
His favourite band is Creedence Clearwater Revival :D
Very interesting track. I was thinking some of these same thoughts the other day!
I sure hope God's not suicidal
