not once did i ever think i'd watch a video of a guy from philly analyzing the body language of a mind numbingly bored drummer during a live show, and actually be entertained by it. good shit pat.
He wasn’t bored. He was feeling poorly. Maybe hung over, maybe sick, maybe just exhausted. If it was merely boredom, he would have used the time to hydrate or cervezate. There was even a split second when I thought he was going to be sick. The fun of this video was would the poor guy fall apart or would he rise to the occasion? This was much higher stakes than narcoleptic levels of boredom. And Pat pushed us along the line of doubt like the good storyteller he is, until the payoff. Of course the guy pulled through and pushed through whatever ailed him. That’s the power of rock and roll, and that’s a professional entertainer going on with the show. Y’know, Pat is often snarky but he’s never mean-spirited. If the drummer had yorked or fell over or choked on his gum, he wouldn’t have made this particular video. Or he might have, if the action had been particularly startling for a guy waiting for the singer. We just didn’t know what was going to happen and Pat kept us on the edge of our seats (or me on mine, anyway).

But I do know that absolutely everything onscreen took a hell of a lot of time putting in everything we’re visualizing plus fixing color, sound, (never mind how long it took him to find the exact noise/song in itself.) I’d think it does take months. There are so many visual jokes in his videos. Never mind getting the idea and then writing the script and so many things we never see. Now everything I said above didn’t take any brain power to think about. It’s like people don’t even bother or care to think about it.

The drummer from The Masters Apprentices got up and paced from one side of the stage to the other until the drums kicked in on their hit "Because I Love You".

I went to that Pointfest one of my favorite concerts I’ve been to. I met the Glorious Sons singer, I watched Coheed and Cambria warm up, and this concert got me into Andrew W.K
So, the original drummer (Kevin Miller) I believe, used to come into the Sterling Hotel where I bartended in Allentown, PA and was the NICEST, COOLEST guy EVER!!! And truly, even though I am quite sure these guys shafted him, held no animosity what so ever and nary a negative word to say about his time in the band... In fact, perhaps he was TOO classy for them and hence nature just worked itself out there... Great content as usual from the funniest guy on UA-cam, thanks Pat!!!

Playing Devil’s advocate for Brett, he wasn’t the guy who wrote the lyrics for a lot of Fuel’s early work. Carl Bell did the music and the lyrics as far as I can tell - and we’ve got a repeat of the Live (band) situation where Bell got the old drummer back and is touring under that name. They even put an album out recently. Isn’t the post-grunge ecosystem so chill and laid back and cool???? :)))))
Carl Bell was also very outspoken about there being too many bald as shit fucks in the late 90s - I distinctly remember that from a Guitar World (or Guitar One) interview with him. The human brain is fucking weird.

I can't imagine there being a single legendary melodic death metal band in between non stop growly butt rock bands, so I'm going to continue pretending they broke up over a decade ago.
I don’t know why, but “trident down” made me LOL. Also, as a drummer, I’ve been there and feel that guys pain. Even when you said he was “in” it wasn’t with gusto, there’s almost a trepidation in when he comes in and it’s a mechanical “I’ve done this shit thousand of times” leaning into rote ability to hit drums with sticks, no real nuance, not that I can blame him if he’s feeling like shit. Sometimes delivering 10% of your ability sounds like 90% to the crowd. Props to him though, it’s not easy to be in that environment and not hurl on the drum set, I know because I did that once. Thankfully we were opening for Seether, alas I was my own drum tech.
Spoiler: The drummer did a great job, the song was well performed and the audience cheered. I prefer the indie side of 90's alternative, but I had a chance to see Fuel in a small bar in Raleigh in 1998 when I was 23 and my housemate was too cool for school. That show was the genesis of why I usually go to music events solo. I'm an engineer. We do nothing in life to look cool, and we delight in doing life's uncool things, like going to ham radio swap meets.

This is the dumbest video I've ever loved. All killer no filler. The funny thing is that Fuel's drummer back in Sunburn era was an absolute BEAST of a man who could not make it through a set without literally tearing his shirt, hulk-style, and continuing to blast the drums physically.
For my 21st birthday, my dad took me to the casino and while we were there some guy handed me two free tickets to Fuel, who were apparently playing at the casino two weeks later. I had no idea who they were, and I wasn't available that weekend anyways, so I brought the tickets to the next club meeting for the university's TV station to see if anyone else wanted them. Well, turns out no one else had heard of them, either, so we pulled up a couple of their songs to check them out. Long story short, I got made fun of for months for thinking that anyone under the age of 45 would want to go to a Fuel concert.
This is absolutely going to alter my live music watching experience. This series of videos absolutely goes over 10 minutes by the fourth episode. We're all here for it, too.

When it comes to exposing musicians' thoughts on other musicians, Pat Finnerty never disappoints. I want him to do commentary on every song that stinks, and every concert I attend. Something like that would certainly add value to the ridiculous ticket prices.

The funny thing is that Fuel's drummer back in Sunburn era was an absolute BEAST of a man who could not make it through a set without literally tearing his shirt, hulk-style, and continuing to blast the drums physically.
As a South African, it’s always bitter sweet hearing Seether mentioned. They were a fun band to watch in small venues here is SA in 2005.

I have missed you Pat. You have very unique observations.
For my 21st birthday, my dad took me to the casino and while we were there some guy handed me two free tickets to Fuel, who were apparently playing at the casino two weeks later. I had no idea who they were, and I wasn't available that weekend anyways, so I brought the tickets to the next club meeting for the university's TV station to see if anyone else wanted them. Well, turns out no one else had heard of them, either, so we pulled up a couple of their songs to check them out. Long story short, I got made fun of for months for thinking that anyone under the age of 45 would want to go to a Fuel concert.
