My mother was taken onto HDU in 2014. Back then it cost £3,000 per patient, per night to keep a patient on HDU. Most of those costs go back to the private providers who built the hospital. Blair’s mate Branson with VirginCare won most of the contracts and as a consequence of Blair, we now have an NHS that’s around 70% privatised. The NHS is being ripped off by private providers. In the wake of the Mid Staff’s Scandal, ‘The Francis Report’ highlighted that failures there are a direct result of putting profit before patient care. Not one Dr or manager was disciplined. Most were moved around, others even promoted. Blair also increased managers by 450% whilst cutting beds by 22,000. Then along came Gordon Brown, who abused the previously little used PFI’s to cook the books, leaving the NHS with a £350 billion debt. This all started with Labour and by the way, my daughter’s a nurse. Conditions for nurses have deteriorated under private sector.

A privatised NHS cannot perform any worse than the current rabble. Considering they've done sweet FA for more than 2.5 years apart from dancing, the sacred, is ripe for the slaughter.
The NHS is a pro-supplier, not pro-customer, organisation - it's plagued by rent-seeking behaviour, inefficiency, inability to discipline staff, waste, inability to change & adapt, etc, and the more money you put into it, statistically speaking, the bigger the health divide between the rich and poor (explain that one if you could) - the NHS, the way it is run, basically guarantees you the most expensive service possible because staff are NOT accountable to their patients and have no incentive to prevent wasteful, inefficient or self-interested behaviour that drives up prices and drives down quality. Before anybody says it: the US health care system is barely a private health care system, so it is no "alternative" to look to - the US health care system spends about double how much the UK pays foor health care, except not everybody gets health care, and it is riddled with similar issues to the NHS mangement-wise
When family members have been killed by the NHS. Trust and faith are lost forever. I live in extreme fear and anxiety of myself and family members becoming ill.
Call me a cynical old bastard, but I'm guessing this would be the dream of BOTH the Conservative and the Labour parties. Imagine not having to spend a large percentage of the national budget on the NHS, or take responsibility for people dying or not getting treatment. And most MPs of both parties probably use private health provision already, so it wont' affect them.
You are correct not cynical at all. If we stopped supporting proxy wars and funding other countries .stopped taking illegal immigrants. We would have the best of everything.
My experience in a contracted service, resulted in wasted appointments, that didn't help me, while the offensive, unprofessional practitioner tried to coerce me into attending her private practice as a fee paying patient. The outcome here was I didn't get the care I needed in my NHS appointments, had a lot of stress, and now have long term consequences of missed opportunities to help me. Just how can the talking heads recognise, there's an urgent need to get real, get back to basics, accountability, and common decency in healthcare. Why is our money being wasted on failed contracts and blatant fraud.
NHS has been subject to privatization by stealth since the 1980s. More direct public investment , less private predation would be good for society - and hence is not being considered. More state control of big pharma and less tired neo-liberal claptrap on the media would be good too.
I doubt it will get any better if it is privatised. There are millions of people not paying any NI. Millions of people bed blocking. Millions of obese sick people. It's a disaster!
There's also more old people than ever, they are taking up a larger portion of the UK demographic every year, and we're not increasing staffing or facilities to keep up with it - both NHS and private. It's a disaster!
The NHS should not be privatised. If Britain can afford to take so many migrants, if we can afford to be involved with Ukraine and afford the huge waste within the government and its ministers then we can afford the NHS. It should be a priority.
Keep businessmen out of places which should be nationalised! Look what’s happed to the water service, electric, gas, fuel, trains. It’s cheaper to fly to Scotland than it is to take a train. This is ridiculous.
Since when does everyone pay for the service. Those who work pay for it. Many of those who use it, do not work and pay for it. Those who work actually pay far more than their fair share. Just go private.
With reference to your discussion about privatisation of the NHS I have to point out that your understanding of the German healthcare system is not totally correct , but however it is a far better system then our NHS.
nhs isn't free we pay for it through our taxes toward healthcare (about 20% of our tax) , give us our healthcare tax back and let us go private with that money, also watch how many people who smoke, drink heavily and don't exercise change their ways when they see how much their health insurance will be, I'm sick and tired of paying for other people's rubbish life choices then when i need the nhs to have my 2 year old looked at i am brushed aside and can't even get a doctors appointment anymore
Private healthcare costs you MUCH more than your NHS tax does, especially over the age of 40. Also you cannot blame poor lifestyle choices for the current state of the NHS. Doctors and nurses are severely underpaid so they are either retiring early or moving abroad for a decent salary, this issue is compounded by the lack of education facilities to train new staff.
No all obese people are fat because of over eating it is a medical term my mum is 22 stone and has copd and cant exercise its a catch 22 she has always had a bad chest and the doctors just fill her up with steroids not to mention the steroids in her nebules and inhalers im her carer i cook her meals for her she doesnt like crisps or takeaways very fussy to be honest if there was a alternative to steroids then maybe life would have been different for her would you have a anorexia tax also so people who dont eat are not a burden on the nhs think about to

It's all very well highlighting extra deaths within the private sector, but he's not making an honest comparison to the true death rates within the NHS, including avoidable deaths, negligence. Why the squalid cover-ups? The NHS cover-up deaths from negligence and bully anyone who tries to blow the whistle when anyone ties to bring to light failings of putting patients’ lives at risk. There is a culture of bullying, intimidation and lies in the NHS reaching to the very top and If any one tries to uncover bad practices their messages go unanswered, or are stonewalled. Patients died needlessly through NHS incompetence and negligence by the staff. The NHS could/have commissioned psychiatric reports that labels people - wholly falsely - as a paranoid schizophrenic if they try to blow the whistle. It is of course, the old Soviet Union which was given to silencing its critics by certifying them as insane. Roger Davidson lost his job as the CQC’s head of media and public affairs just before the 2010 General Election after revealing that one quarter of NHS trusts had failed to meet basic hygiene standards. The NHS and everyone associated with them attempt to 'restore public confidence in the NHS', by lying. At the very root lies an appalling litany of serial incompetence, indifference and even cruelty by front-line staff. Let us not forget the dreadful events themselves in Morecambe Bay hospitals, where at least 16 babies and two mothers are estimated to have died through neglect, and in Mid Staffs, neglect and cruelty reached such a pitch that patients drank from flower vases to relieve their thirst. 14 hospitals were investigated for unusually high death rates. And we know from example after sickening example that too many elderly patients are treated all too frequently with a callousness that defies belief. While thousands of NHS staff are highly professional and dedicated, far too many have simply lost the ethic of caring, and these failings are not being addressed; because what rules in the NHS, from top to bottom, is a culture of ruthless unaccountability in which the buck stops nowhere. Patients have no power to vote with their feet - as they do in insurance-based systems. Meanwhile, the regulators developed into a crazily spiralling bureaucracy answerable to no one and looking after their own interests instead. The NHS wash their hands of responsibility when things went wrong, Instead, they dump that burden upon the myriad quangos set up for that purpose -while wrapping themselves in the mantle of the potent NHS myth as Britain’s sanctified temple of compassion and altruism, as a result, the entire service knows it has to conspire to pretend that everything was for the best in the best of all possible health care systems - and anyone trying to tell the truth is threatened with the sack, gagged when they left or otherwise bullied by amoral apparatchiks. The CQC cannot be put right because the NHS cannot be put right for the root of this moral and professional corruption is that the entire bureaucracy of the NHS - up through the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister himself - conspires to tell the public the big lie that the NHS remains a national treasure because no other system matches it for decency and compassion, in fact, the opposite is true. And until that fact is honestly faced and its consequences translated into a radical rethink of healthcare delivery, the horror voiced in official circles at Morecambe Bay, Mid Staffs and the rest will be no more than crocodile tears.
The thing that a lot of people never actually seem to grasp is the fact that the NHS isn't free. It's paid for taxes. Just because you come out of a hospital after you have had some medical procedure and don't get a bill - doesn't mean that you aren't paying for it. Then there's also things like prescription charges(which I know in Scotland they are apparently "free" - in that taxpayer is paying for them).
Yes your not trying to stoke many fires are you Your also missing the key facts Like a huge strep A out break and lots of illness that is directly from the lockdowns
It costs us a fortune over time for a poor service! What difference will it make? Go private or make them work for there money 💰 nhs work through covid! So did I but no one clapped for me..
It all needs giving back..along with its huge profit making infrastructure .. the hundreds and hundreds of pound profit it makes the private companies each year should be going back in..not out and out of the country
That the NHS needs to be reformed is undeniable. However, whilst what that reform should look like should be a matter of intense debate, but that is a debate VERY noticeable by it's absence. So why isn't that debate happening? For years it has been noticeable how the merest suggestion of ANY reform of "Our" NHS is immediately greeted by the same hysteric knee-jerk reaction and demented screams of "SAVE OUR NHS" and "THEY WANT TO PRIVATISE OUR NHS" and always from the same vested interests of the Unions & bureaucratic REMFs. And note that when they scream "Our NHS" they mean exactly that, THEIR NHS, not ours. We, the poor bloody taxpayer, are just an inconvenience who are expected to stump up ever increasing sums of money to pay for the burgeoning number of non-jobs they keep recruiting for.
Our government would rather be blind to the issue until it destroys the NHS entirely. Then private healthcare will take over and become insanely wealthy.
If you privatised the NHS you would have a higher number of people living with illness and suffering because they can't afford medical insurance or treatment, insurance companies would have a field day, and you only have to look at private practices and dental to see the extortionate costs as well. It's designed for the rich. And just because they are private, certainly does not mean they would give you better treatment, because that's not true. There are some right dodgy cowboys out there in the private sector, most of them just see the colour of your money, as well as some really good ones, and that goes for the NHS as well. I remember reading about a surgeon in the private sector, who traumatised a few patients for life, he said they needed life saving surgery and it cost each of them thousands, only to then find that he had performed the surgery under false pretences, he needed to make money and to make money, he needed victims that had to pay for the surgery. None of the people had life threatening illnesses, they were, before he got his hands on them, perfectly healthy. Now they are scarred mentally and physically for life. Privatised is all about money, money, money. You need to get rid of some of those at the top in the NHS, and how many managers do they need. You should also listen to some of the British doctors and nurses who ended up working abroad, ask them their opinion on why they left.
Well, then we as a World should become Private Citizens! I have been around bad mouthed Elementary School Teachers and they called themselves, “Private.” You shouldn’t be on Public Media if you want your sickness of Privacy. Privileged people walking around well cultured people with their noses in the air.
Where does the nhs get this magical extra funding and people to work? The price goes up that's how Oh don't forget the shareholders who need to be paid in a private system The nhs is so good that the tories have been trashing it for 13 years and it's still here The doctor wiped the floor with the pair of them
Best thing about government run NHS is it is hurting poor and obese people that tend to vote for nationalization of all industries. Its a complete loop 🔁 .
Being efficient, about clearing bed blockers and booting out people after a week following major surgery isn't the same thing as health outcomes which is underwhelming. GDP includes govt spending so isn't a realistic assessment for health budgets.
I am going to say keep the NHS but it must be significantly reformed in the way that it operates to increase efficiency. Not sure if a German-run healthcare system is the best option. Maybe someone could explain better than I.
Just like Brexit and look where the UK is now. Don't wish for someone that you have no idea about because you will end up being extremely sorry You will have the Americans and the Chinese battling for the NHS and both are parasites at the greediest level
@@shirmelduggins9984 I'm only joking. GBNews' and the disaster capitalists they represent have looked at how gullible people were over Brexit and think they can pull off the same trick with the NHS. And pay and conditions for workers. The list will go on.
It's already privatised that's why we're having some of these problems The government sets pay so thats all it will fix and getting rid of pensions. Privatising it will mean poor people will get less access and people who pay more will get more. Most trusts are run by ex bankers anyway
Dan? I thought it was Mark. Anyways Bruges Group, advocates for a restructuring of Britain's relationship with the European Union. Yep he's well qualified to discuss the NHS and NO to privatising.
I think there's an issue with both options first if we look up privatising the NHS well we only need you to look into countries where they have their own private health care system and see the myriad of issues that comes with that for example it becomes about prophet not care unnecessary surgeries being performed for profit of the companies plus you have insurance companies and we all no insurance companies don't like to pay out. And of course we have situations where people are simply unable to afford the healthcare and then become ill and I home because they're unable to receive care. And then you have privatised where it's all about the care of the patient not the profit government funded health care is something that the United Kingdom has been very proud of and should be. Our system is being taken advantage of not only by pharmaceutical companies which way overcharge for their drugs also it is a very common known fact that the majority of people come from other countries to use our free NHS Healthcare system for medical procedures because it's free here. Thousands millions of people do this all across the world come to the UK just to take advantage of our Healthcare system we have no ID or citizens ID that can prove that we are actually UK citizens therefore have access to our NHS Healthcare others come here 3 and take advantage of that system. Also the management the complete incompetence and overpaying of unnecessary members of the NHS Management with these grotesquely high wages. Personally I think there should be a mixture of both both private and government funded Healthcare systems where is a few earn over a certain amount you have to be a private because obviously you can afford Healthcare whereas if we keep a government funded side those who couldn't possibly afford health care can also receive treatment. But this can only happen when from the top down the NHS needs to be dismantled and put back together in a way that benefits all patients both private and tax funded.
@@luisbustamante9869 many years working within the system I have personally observed this many times as have many of my previous colleagues. And if there are indeed such protections in place what exactly are they because they certainly don't work not from my experiences.

If everyone had only access to NHS - particularly people in government - then they would focus upon making the NHS a better service. @@steptay
Absolutely not you Brits tell us Americans how much better the NHS is compared to our private systems you should have to keep it
The rich dont use the nhs they use private hospitals private care like bupa so who are these rich people who might need to pay
The NHS has its share but Private Health Services has its place also. It helps the competitive environment and provides more care.
You can't have a properly working national health service when there is competition.
A privatised NHS cannot perform any worse than the current rabble.
Considering they've done sweet FA for more than 2.5 years apart from dancing, the sacred, is ripe for the slaughter.
Under funded for years, let’s make it worse with privatisation
Instead of actual fixing it
What's scary is how complacent labour seem on this topic. They're not going to put any real effort into fixing it.
Rishi would love it to be privatised it's what they long for
Couldn't care less anymore fact
As long as you can afford about £450 a month for medical cover. Unless you are a family of four, then you can up that to about £1,500 a month.
When family members have been killed by the NHS.
Trust and faith are lost forever.
I live in extreme fear and anxiety of myself and family members becoming ill.
Go private then muppet
"If you fear then you are already a slave" Polish Author and Parlamentarian Grzegorz Braun.
They have bad managers put in place by the tories so family's will sue the nhs
All because of government mismanagement
Call me a cynical old bastard, but I'm guessing this would be the dream of BOTH the Conservative and the Labour parties. Imagine not having to spend a large percentage of the national budget on the NHS, or take responsibility for people dying or not getting treatment. And most MPs of both parties probably use private health provision already, so it wont' affect them.
You are correct not cynical at all. If we stopped supporting proxy wars and funding other countries .stopped taking illegal immigrants. We would have the best of everything.
@@mikebarton Why off the mark.
How is privatisation going to work if they are saying they are understaffed 😛
No obviously??
Yes. It is simply idiotic to have everyone pay for a service that fails so many. #NHSshouldgo
Since when does everyone pay for the service. Those who work pay for it. Many of those who use it, do not work and pay for it. Those who work actually pay far more than their fair share. Just go private.
No, it should not be privatized.....
Politicians want easy money
Even Germany got big problems in waiting list and emergency patients
It should be scrapped
Bring in a Fat Tax

Thatcher is to blame for the NHS crisis!!!
I must disagree with the good doctor. 500 excess deaths weekly because the NHS cannot do their job.
Public to blame. Same all over EU.
Yes your not trying to stoke many fires are you
Your also missing the key facts
Like a huge strep A out break and lots of illness that is directly from the lockdowns
No, don't be ridiculous.
No.

Best thing about government run NHS is it is hurting poor and obese people that tend to vote for nationalization of all industries. Its a complete loop 🔁 .
We should take the private health sector into public ownership, its the same Doctors doing both jobs so no major change required

Dan? I thought it was Mark. Anyways Bruges Group, advocates for a restructuring of Britain's relationship with the European Union. Yep he's well qualified to discuss the NHS and NO to privatising.
If its privatized at least there will be a reduction in health tourism and staff that would sooner treat illegals than the people who pay their wages.
Health tourism only accounts for 0.3% of the NHS budget.
have that Brexit boris & Farage guy run it.......
The NHS has safeguards to prevent people from other countries to use our free Healthcare system. It'd be interesting to learn where you got this idea.
@@luisbustamante9869 many years working within the system I have personally observed this many times as have many of my previous colleagues. And if there are indeed such protections in place what exactly are they because they certainly don't work not from my experiences.
No. The National Health service is wonderful. My daughter has received expert, kind considerate and exhaustive service over her serious health condition. Nowhere in the world would she have received this level of commitment. My gratitude will always be there.
What planet are you on if it's a wonderful why does nobody else in the world in any country in the world do not follow this idea of national health reason is because it's f****** crap
As a hospital worker, people are incredibly upset over the waiting times. But as soon as they're seen and treated, everything is better and they're always incredibly thankful that they won't have to worry about paying a massive medical bill.
UK, being a free market economy, should definitely privatise the NHS. It will help NHS become more competitive and efficient. All hospitals and diagnostic centers need to be completely privatised.
The UK being a free market economy has destroyed the UK being a competitive country to work in. We have some of the lowest salaries in the developed world and the highest cost of living.
