Wow, what a difference between the two kits - just goes to show. Oddly enough, even though I find the grey scheme for jets a bit samey, it's the Polish one I prefer. I do like Russian hardware, just has such a sleek look about it. Beautiful job x2! :)
Great comparison Rob! :) I love how you compared the two kits side-by-side. I love the Airfix the best :) Great video and I also love the footage of the real thing.
It should hopefully please you to know my son has sorted my computer and it is now (for the time being) working better than ever.. :) Will still take me a while to tweak things back to how I want it though.. and it appears I have lost some stuff I thought I had saved.. but I don't mind that so much! Most of my own videos from airshows and museums et.c are saved on external memory cards anyway.. :)
Very impressive models, the aircraft is also very interesting design. Esci's model was first issued in 1989, back then little was known about the actual MiG-29, that is why is full of errors. Italeri's model, followed in 1991 is much better.
I built the Monogram 1/48 scale MiG-29 and the inaccuracies of it made it more like the late model Fulcrum than the early version that it was supposed to be and it was released in 1990. It was a very impressive model when finished. I'd love it if a decent MiG-35 model was released.
Looking good Rob. It's been years since I have tried a aircraft build, maybe I'll give this a go. Mine was a Hasegawa Mig-29, don't think I ever finished it.
Great pair of migs. I'd guess that the Esci kit was researched and designed during the cold war, so thay may not have had acess to a real Mig 29. Where as I believ the Airfix kit came later so they might have had access. Even so you have made a beautiful job of both models very well done.
Amazing Rob! Still amazed by your perfect camo, even with a brush! Indeed Airfix's newest models are superb! Btw I recently bought an Su-27 from Trumpeter in 1/72, and I really recommend it! You won't be disappointed :)
Nice migs rob ! I've ordered the fujimi one before finding out it's the worst one ! The manufacturer s took measurement s from pictures not the actual jet! No wonder they're not the same !
Nice job! I built the Esci kit about 25 years ago and then the Hasegawa kit. The Esci kit was a real slug compared to the H-gawa. Watch out for the Revell single-seater, over wing intake louvers are BACKWARDS. The Revell two-seater is OK.
Ahoy Rob Great video you sure can see the difference between the two kits. I loe the Polish squadron insignias on the tail fins. The work is Superb you the man buddy. Frankie Day
Thanks, it is quite colourful.. The East German Air Force kept us very busy back in the day, playing cat and mouse with us Swedish radar peeps and I have always had a liking for them ever since, odd as it may seem.. :) So I intend to build more GDR aircraft as and when I can.. :)
Amazing models Rob! I feel I should grab one myself now, they look like they fit together better than what they say on the forums, hence why I've been deciding and delaying the idea. And I also loved the touch of Machine Supremacy in the background! Great job though! :D
I also happen to own a fulcrum in that scale, its a pretty old hasegawa one I found in the darkest corner of my local modelling store. It must have sat there for years, the old price tag I found under the new one still was in DM and not in € ! The box it was in was pretty messed up and old, thats why probably noone bothered at buying it. Have to say it was worth buying it. Your fulcrums look amazing, both of 'em . Too bad the ESCI kit is that bad, guess the only thing good about it is the box art.....
Seems to be some shape differences between the two. .....which is more accurate? They both look like pretty nice kits. ....excellent paint job on both. ....partial to the East German one. Which one did you like the best? Bill.
Hi, great models, lovely MiG's. I'd love to own these, but I don't have the skill to build them. Would you sell either of these or both, or I could even pay you to build one for me. I'd love a MiG-29, it's my favorite fighter. Thank you for reading, Paul.
Thank you.. and yes, I know the feeling.. which is why I am gradually branching out to 1/48 and 1/35 scale models.. at least a lot more than I used to! :)
Barshan Karmakar If I remember correctly they came with the ESCI kit, the kit that I binned... but I kept the decals and used them on another Airfix kit. I bought the ESCI kit on ebay..
Beautiful models for a gorgeous Russian Jet, i really should post this comment via my cestrianmodeller account but its a huge task, especially with google being a total ass at the moment
Twas a stinker when available. Remember building one back in 1994 and being very disappointed with it. As was also the case with the following kit I built which was the Revell 1/72 Sukhoi Su-27A lucky me ... Two kits definitely not worth writing home about!
So much rage about the kit being different from the aircraft? I thought you disliked rivet counting ;) TBH if I were to throw out every model which design is significantly different from the real thing, my tank collection would be decimated. Why not make it into a diorama of shot down Yugoslavian or Sudanese one instead? Great models, anyway.
I don't count this as rivet counting.. :) But what I do want from a model is that it should look like the thing it is trying to be.. and the ESCI kit did not look like a MiG-29 to me.. and more importantly, it was too different from the Airfix kit for them to look good next to each other.. :P I don't care about panel lines, if it has three rivets too many, if it is 2 mm too wide or 3 mm too short or things like that.. but the overall shape and impression should be correct, and the ESCI kit failed that.. at least in my book! :)
Rob BasicModelling What would you say about Airfix Tiger I or Panther then? Takes tears, sweat and blood to make them even remotely resemble their real counterparts. Hopefully I will make a triple build video of Panthers from Airfix, Matchbox/Revell and Fujimi someday... Glad to see your keyboard is fixed however :)
I just built hasegawa's mig-29 today. Im a little disappointed. The decals are garbage and it didnt come with any armament or pylons....what the hell. I had to order aftermarket decals and soviet aircraft missiles. I will post a vid when I get these and complete the kit.

great news indeed, excellent :)
A nice pair of Migs Rob, it looks like the airfix kit builds up really nice.
Of course the paint finish is top draw as well.
A cool build, cheers dude

I agree with you, Monogram's is a good model, I remember it when it arrived in 1990, very impressive back in those days!
Looking good Rob. It's been years since I have tried a aircraft build, maybe I'll give this a go. Mine was a Hasegawa Mig-29, don't think I ever finished it.
both of them look wonderful but my fav of the 2 would have to be the green version , great work man.

Fujimi is not good? For built a beautiful MIG-29 s from russian air force ( firts fulcrum) i recomend Italeri kit for me is realy good..

Hi Rob, as always, great video and comparison build. Thanks for sharing.
Ahoy Rob

Nice looking Migs. I prefer the Polish one, great paint job on them.
Rob ,brilliant video and two good builds from you :-)
Great models Rob. I really like the MiG-29s, my favourite Russian Jet :)
The completed models look real! I wish I could pronounce the names of the chocolate and of Polish beer...
Nice this video puts me in the mood to build one of these airfix kits
I REALLY like the east German scheme, a couple of GREAT builds Rob. Good job
Thanks, it is quite colourful.. The East German Air Force kept us very busy back in the day, playing cat and mouse with us Swedish radar peeps and I have always had a liking for them ever since, odd as it may seem.. :) So I intend to build more GDR aircraft as and when I can.. :)
Cracking builds. Nice work on what is a striking aircraft. Shame about esci but not a big surprise I guess. Enjoyed the vid very much
One of the most beautiful planes ever! Great job!

Awesome, I love the mig 29.
Great looking migs Rob, they look stunning. :)
Super that you use polish version of decals. I'm from Poland :)
Seems to be some shape differences between the two. .....which is more accurate? They both look like pretty nice kits. ....excellent paint job on both. ....partial to the East German one.
Which one did you like the best?
Bill.
that exhaust noozles are the best Ive ever seen on 1/72 out of the box Mig-29, where can I get this airfix kit? im from central Eu
great job, I really like them, the East German one is the best
Hi Rob! Very beautiful models, i love them!!!can you please tell me what paints did you use for the DDR version?thanks
love the build man... but such a shame of the esci kit! but they looked great as always.
Aviation, you just gotta love it !
Superb job man! I love them both ;D
Very nice indeed, especially love the East German version!
Loved it.
Cheers,
John
Excellent work.
But I would like to see the comparison between Esci and Airfix, even being the bad Esci kit ....
Hi, great models, lovely MiG's. I'd love to own these, but I don't have the skill to build them. Would you sell either of these or both, or I could even pay you to build one for me. I'd love a MiG-29, it's my favorite fighter. Thank you for reading,
Paul.
Muy emocionante Saludos
Great job!!!
they look nice!
Vielen Dank, mein Herr.. :)
Respect! I can't build kits in 1/72. Is too small for me and my saucer-fingers :)
Thank you.. and yes, I know the feeling.. which is why I am gradually branching out to 1/48 and 1/35 scale models.. at least a lot more than I used to! :)
1/48 is to much for me, because the room in my house is to smal. Also only 1/35 is my scale ;)
Your builds are very nice I like it very much.
wunder schön ♥ ;)
Läckra byggen och målning! Men varför kasta ESCI? Såg ju identiska ut .. i mina ögon. :(
Can you please tell me from where did you get the East German decals ?
Barshan Karmakar If I remember correctly they came with the ESCI kit, the kit that I binned... but I kept the decals and used them on another Airfix kit. I bought the ESCI kit on ebay..
Can I buy any separate decals from eBay ? I am searching for the Indian Air Force decals.....
Barshan Karmakar There must be shops online thay may sell decals of Indian Air Force aircraft.. not sure where though.. :)
OK , thank you :)
Did the Polish decals come with the kit?
Yes, they do.. You get Polish and Czech decals, I had to use after market decals for my East German version.. :)
Beautiful models for a gorgeous Russian Jet, i really should post this comment via my cestrianmodeller account but its a huge task, especially with google being a total ass at the moment
So bad was the ESCI kit so as to dustbin it?...
YES!!!! Without hesitation...
Twas a stinker when available. Remember building one back in 1994 and being very disappointed with it. As was also the case with the following kit I built which was the Revell 1/72 Sukhoi Su-27A lucky me ... Two kits definitely not worth writing home about!
Nice!
Top gun looking migs nice. have you been reciving my email and comments?
Which ones the East German one?
The pink one... 😆😆😆
i need the pattern
How can ı find a online shop in europe for model kits and decals.please send back
Try google for Hannants. It's based in the UK. Not sure where you live but they ship all over Europe.

Improvised camo I see? :D
