- Amphibia Season 3 Episode 3 airs in a few hours, but after Turning Point I felt a mighty need to talk Sasha Waybright's character development, and the clever way her villain arc sets up her redemption arc. Enjoy!

AMPHIBIA: • WILL MARCY BE POSSESSE...
In season 3 of Amphibia, we see Anne Boonchuy, and the Plantars, Sprig, Hop Pop and Polly, sent to Earth! Meanwhile, Sasha Waybright and Grime team up with the citizens of Wartwood to take down Andrias, who appears to have big plans for Marcy Wu.

I think that one of the reasons Sasha fears change is that she believes it would risk her friendship with Anne and Marcy. Since the beginning of the girls friendship she was the leader/protector, so she believes if she loses control and no longer fulfills that role, the others will no longer need her and the friendship will end. This is supported by the fact that Sasha assumes she can fix her relationship to Anne by just regaining control.
I never thought about that but that makes a lot of sense
@@maem7462 Do you think that Sasha will become Amphibia's leader by the end of the show?
@@shivangparikh2933 It's possible that is what could happen. If that happens I wouldn't be upset
Sasha is a Disney version of Zuko. Her redemption arc is so realistic and I think kids and teenagers can learn a lot from her story.
That's what I've been thinking for awhile. Amphibia as a whole feels like Disney's version of avatar in the best way
@Marmelade That's exactly what I thought too!!! True colors for me really had the same energy and "wait WHAT?!" reaction as crossroads of destiny. It was the first time a show in a while yet alone on a kids network that left me so shocked
@@darwinbowman8512 Do you think that Sasha will eventually become Amphibia's new leader?
@@darwinbowman8512 Oh right, both Aang and Marcy were basically killed only to get resurrected the following season.
@Marmelade Do you think that Sasha will become Amphibia's leader by the end of the show?
School bully, prisoner, the strongest soldier in the Toad Army, fugitive, and now leader of the rebellion
Actually, Sasha isn't a school bully.
She definitly is bossy, but bully ? No.
She wasn't a bully lol
She wasn’t the School bully dude lol
Sasha didn't let go of Anne's hand because she'd rather die than change.
She was sacrificing herself so Anne wouldn't fall trying to save her, while also acknowledging that she hadn't been a very good friend to her after seeing the Planters come to her Aid.
In the heat of the moment, Sasha understood things clearly & made a tough call.
Once that moment & some time had passed, without exposure to Anne she regressed having learned little but giving her something to think about.
Yes sasha has been through a lot character development
And now she's leading a army of frogs and fighting against andrisas I can tell she turns into a great person in the future
Sasha has been my Personal favorite character since Prison Break for me. Every episode she and Grime are on screen or having an episode I’m instantly hooked on screen. She’s developed so much as a character to the equivalent of Zuko, So I am excited on how her redemption arc will go from here.
And honestly She’s the one Character in this show that I have been hyper obsessed with over the series and I am excited for her to get Way more screen time she rightfully deserves this season.
In my Mind it’s Sasha, Marcy, Anne then everyone else.
The difference between Sasha/Zuko and Catra/Azula is the creators immediately show some redeeming qualities and the characters are never outright sadistic. They don't go out of their way to be sadistic people and you can genuinely tell that they really do care for the people around them.
I do agree. Although I do slightly disagree with Catra not showing some reddening qualities at the beginning. I think she does show some of it and that she truly cared for Adora. I will saw the amount Catra shows isn’t the same amount we get with Sasha and Zuko
@@maem7462 Catra tried to kill Adora multiple times
@Marmelade I was referring to the part when they said Catra cared about Adora. Sasha didn't know and didn't care about the Plantars

I think Sasha’s arc is definitely one of my favourites for redeemable villains, even on par with Zuko from avatar in my opinion, I guess I just like how they don’t exaggerate her mean behaviour into something that would make it hard to be redeemable, she still has emotions and feelings like every other character, but it’s the way she goes about expressing those emotions that makes her different
You know out of all of the three girls, Marcy is still gonna be the most mess up out of all of them once the series is done.
Hard to say Anne did grow and learned about true friendship due to Mary's actions.
@@mevan883 Anne had been developing as a character in season 1 just from living in Wartwood. I dont really recall a moment where Marcy helped Anne grow

Yes Matt has done really good work with her. In fact if there was one complaint I’d make about Amphibia it’s the lack of Sasha focused episodes. Tho I have a feeling that will get changed this season.
Yes sadly the Sasha episodes have been my most favorite ones, and we don't get many of them.

@@santosic So you think that she will become Amphibia's leader by the end of the show?
A lot of people are comparing Sasha to Zuko because "awesome redemption arcs" and all that, but honestly one of my favorite things about Sasha's arc is how well it differs from Zuko's instead of going down the same road
Zuko is shown from the beginning of the series to have redeeming qualities even amidst the harmful things he does, while much of the harm he causes is rooted in others convincing him it's the right thing to do until he starts to break out of the bubble he's been raised in
Sasha, on the other hand, has a lot more self-ingrained toxicity, while the harm she causes is more rooted in who she is as a person than the immediate influence of cruel authority figures (though her family is definitely hinted to have influenced how she was at the start, it's shown to be more out of resentment than misplaced trust)
While I adore both their arcs a lot, one of the things that drew me into Sasha's in particular is that it succeeded in developing a genuinely toxic character into a genuine hero. She always had the now distinctly positive qualities she displays, but took them to a significantly toxic extreme and was believably changed by facing the consistent consequences of those actions. Freakin' love it
This right in the face of who sais that her redemption was rushed
As a wise man once said:
*"YOU FRICKING FRICKS! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES?".*

There are 5 things about Sasha I want addressed before the show ends
1- her home life
2- her turn from hero to toxic friend
3- her friendship with Marcy compared to Anne
4- interactions with the plantars after trying to kill them
5- the fact that Sasha was willing to die back at toad tower
Honestly at this point I don’t believe the writers are barely going to touch on Toad Tower at this point other than that time it was played for laughs in The Dinner” and pass by sentence in Third Temple.
@@toadlord8594 KEEP HOPE ALIVE
And here’s hoping we really do get some Sasha and Marcy moments without Anne in the second half cause the whole trio friendship has felt pretty centered around Anne, so the second half of the season really is the best time for some interactions between the two.
@@marqusmedina5983 Hey I’m a Huge Sasha fanboy just saying so it’s insanely annoying how either her or Marcy haven’t even been mentioned by Anne or any earth character in the show so far. Sasha was the cheerleader captain after all and Marcy was part of the Chess club at their middle school.
@@toadlord8594 it’s possible that the parents are actively looking for them or someone’s covering it up.
We know Marcy doesn’t really have friends outside of the trio
I wonder why Sasha has this insatiable need to control people.. maybe it’s cause of her family life? She gives off rich popular girl at school with parental problems vibes. I hope to see an episode where Anne has to face Sasha and Marcy’s parents and we get a glimpse of how they’re coping without their daughters. It is also interesting how Anne’s parents don’t bring up Marcy and Sasha considering those are her best friends and they were missing for 5 months at the same time. (Or did Anne give a cover up story for that in episode 1). I think for now in season 3 there’s a slow build with information cause Anne is in denial and has to solve so many problems while adjusting to her almost normal life. I just need more episodes! Lol. Excited to see how Sasha changes as a person
Sasha was not really a villain per se she was more like a antagonist. There is a difference between these two. Jerky friends aren’t really considered villains.
Sasha starts out dressed in pink and moves to red for being a villain. I think we might get another redesign. Either back to her old clothes or into a new pinker armor set to match her gem color.
Sasha must have been the 1st to turn bright/shining red with the gem
and that instead of Sprig, the King would have attacked Grime or Anne...
I totally agree. However, I think a lot of this will be for not if Anne willingly lets Sasha back into her life. In the New Normal Anne says that she wants to make up with her. I hope the show doesn’t take this direction Sasha’s actions can’t be undone and neither can the consequences. Their friendship has stopped and started at least 3 times already.
I see your point.
It could be instead that they could have a strong Bond not as friends but as people who respect each other at the very least .
@@lavaninja1042 All that matters to me at the end of the series is that the Calamity trio is United again or else I am rioting.

@@shivangparikh2933 Yeah, I think so...
Sasha: so anyway besties, I'm taking control over Amphibia...again...honestly I can't tell if it's either a good or bad thing at this point
*awkward silence between all three girls*
@@shivangparikh2933 Yeah, but still, we're back where we start from True Colors, basically one big detour to the same scene and I think all three girls would re-call that. Hard to say if Anne would forgive her at this point fo time or it would be like "Ah, shit here we go again, Marcy *don't die* "
@@shivangparikh2933 And so what, she would still be back where we started. Sasha was never a bad leader per see, she was just very manipulative and controlling, but rather than that she had everything a good leader needed, the strength of the lion and the charm of the fox. It would also be hard to tell if she really has grown as a person if she still aspires to be in control so much after everything. She sure would help, but again, going on with being a queen again after everything?
@@kubat4925 I would believe she would become more of an actual general of the New Amphibia army. After True Colors I don’t believe she’s interested in taking the throne and ruling the world anymore.
But I thought the more honest lesson would be all three girls go home on Earth, through the hardships and experiences of Amphibia and both Sasha and Marcy move forward to face their difficult home lives. In my opinion.
You can do ti Sasha, cause you can Go The Distance!
Interesting analysis. Speaking of characters and consequences, I wonder if you'll do any "what not to do" videos based on this show's predecessors.
Another banger keep it up. Im still baffled on you make such amazing thumbnails
I knew Sasha could become a better person. Because unlike a lot of other characters with similar negative qualities, it's very clear throughout the story that Sasha always cared about her friends. She just wasn't honest with herself about what she really wanted.
love the background music
I’m exited to see for when/if Sasha and Anne reunite because it will be very difficult for Anne to forgive Sasha again. I could see the fact that she was telling the truth about Andrias actually helping Anne forgive her
Your right about what you said About Sasha this is the best theory ever
so interested in her!! ive been putting amphibia off for a while but i saw her in S1. its interesting to see that she cares for her friends but at the same time is so controlling? i refuse to believe she doesnt know she's controlling anne but maybe because shes scared to lose people?
The genius of simon (infinity train) how to write an unreedemable villain
this was posted on my b-day lol fitting since she is my fav
All i could think during the first minute and a half of the video was “WHEN WILL YOU LEARN THAT YOUR ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES”
Pls do an Amphibia The Hardest Thing finale video
"Peace, tranquility, let alone reconciliation/
Are the acts of domestic dogs who have forsaken their fangs."
Sasha is seriously considering taking to battle a bunch of peasants to fight an organized army of robots ? She should take the strongest frogs with her (leaving Grime to take care of the village while she's away) to go meet with Beatrix, then return to Wartwood to take over the Toad Tower, and then take control of the valley to properly organize it against Andrias. War is no time to be soft hearted. And if any toad or frog causes problems among the ranks because of old grudges, then Sasha disciplines them. I really hope they don't change her too much. While I agree she shouldn't be possessive, I actually appreciated her other qualities.
Well then what did you believe Season 3B was gonna be for the War Arc cause I believe the resistance arc was handled pretty well
Yay Sasha
She’s only had 4 solo episodes and like 4 other episodes with her in and she went from an absolute bitch to a loveable protector
Pov your early but don't know what to comment
Turning point was the episode that final got me to like Sasha
See, she didn't commit genocide like other redeemed villains (glares at She-Ra reboot and Steven Universe)
Catra did not commit genocide hordack on the other hand yeah that’s fair but he wasn’t really redeemed in the end.
Hi

@@CharlesJThomas yeah lmao. I love ML but Amphibia does character development sooo much better.
You can hate me but Sasha >>> Marcy

Marcy is kinda overrated tbh (no shade toward Marcy tho)
@@ValenArtsAnimation Yup I agree
Same with me. I love Marcy too and my spirit animal don’t get me wrong but people can be too much Credit with Marcy, which makes me actively steer away from the fandom (nothing against Marcy fans or Marcy herself of course.)
While Sasha’s character arc speaks to me on another level.
In terms of character development Sasha is way better because she gets her own episodes, but with Marcy she came into the story late and she only gets her own episodes as long as she’s with Anne. So we don’t know a lot about Marcy other than her being a clumsy, book smart, gamer girl, who has a hard time talking with others. I think people like Marcy cause she’s nicer to Anne and everyone else lol but deep down she has her own problems to work on just like Sasha
@@natashatides7548 i mean she has 2 of her own episodes but if they did put it in marcies perspective we wouldve known the mystery about her that came to light in true colors.
Froggy Little Christmas showed why Sasha’s controlling.
Guys Sasha is not a villain.
She’s a heroine now.
If you ask me, amphibian is Disney’s current gem
I think it’s a shame that most people talk about the owl house rather than this (although I do understand the hype for it)
Staying at the comparison, I think sashas redemption feels much better than… well, whatever amity had. I don’t really think of that as a redemption, mostly because it happened really quick and her being evil lasted very shortly
And while I would say that as a 'Person‘ I currently like amity more, I like Sasha a lot better as a well written character
I genuinely prefer the writing of Amphibia too, as well as the vibe it has
I personally miss Amity’s edge she used to have in early season one. Now since she’s officially girlfriends with Luz, that’s all most of her character has been of late. Here’s hoping that in Season 2B we still get more Amity character beside being an awesome girlfriend in my opinion.
Sasha has one of the worst redemptions arcs I’ve ever witness and I’m surprised there are people who eat it up.
anyways
I'll admit I'm not buying Sasha`s "redemption" she crossed her moral event horizon back in season 1 and no, fighting Andreas is not redemption that's Stalin and Mao joining America in WW2
And let's just face facts, people want to redeem Sasha because they want to ship her with Anne not because she deserves to change
