Regarding the suspension comment that you have to "protect star players".. Canuck captain Hughes was cut pretty good the previous game by McDavid and he didn't even get a penalty. Four officials didn't see that while the rest of the world did??? I think the NHL also needs full disclosure regarding these company policies while they are spending tens of millions of dollars through their third party business partners to try and get people addicted to gambling on their games.
1:17:00 - appreciate the balanced analysis boys. While its frustrating, Kypper is right - not all players are treated equally, rightly or wrongly. Hopefully this improves in future, but im not holding my breath.
It means hockey places business ahead of sport. Not good.

All sports are a business first. It's always about the big ol buck first and foremost that will never change.
Star players matter more. Just a fact. If I'm paying $200 minimum to see an Oilers game and McDavid got injured by Carson Soucy I am absolutely livid. If Carson Soucy misses the game i wouldn't care. Just how it is
LOL at the idea of low-balling the Leafs' head coach with a salary below the cost of renting an apartment in Toronto.
3:40 - I think it's worth taking Darren McCarty's words seriously regarding Babcock. Anyone who remembers the Colorado-Detroit feud knows that Darren is no shrinking lily. Scotty Bowman was disliked "for 364 days of the year, and on the 365th day, you lifted the Cup". Darren nevertheless respected Scotty because Scotty treated his players like human beings, and made sure to create an environment where players treated each other with similar respect and consideration...and I think the latter is a key constituent of a successful Stanley Cup winning team. Darren despised Babcock, believing him responsible for tanking the Wings, and only managing to win the Stanley Cup off of the hard work that Bowman left behind.
Don't get the people responsible for creating a poisonous environment in the locker room and expect to get to the Cup. Hard-working and grueling, yes; not poisonous. Babcock pushing Marner to rat out his teammates, then exposing Marner to the team, is not the kind of environment that a championship team is made out of.
I think patience with Cowan. He's going to be great, but he needs to be held back in the AHL to put on some muscle, and get used to playing against men in their prime. If the Leafs play him right out of camp, he'll be Bennet Choke Slam Bait. I think the Leafs need to have some kind of stability on the blue line before they get comfortable with ANY goaltender. I think Woll is "injury prone" because the guys in front of him make him play in a way is beyond his physical capabilities-- and maybe anyone's.
He won't be in the AHL though that's the problem. He does play like an NHLer though with his tenacity and on the spot thinking. The summer training will tell alot if he's ready otherwise he'll be back in London again he'll get 10-15 games likely.
Every player is different. Give him a shot and if he doesn’t play well first 10 games then send him back
JOEL QUENNEVILLE IS THE ONE WE NEED!
He isn't even available lol
I'm not even sure if they tried. I guess we'll never know. Let's hope berube does a better job here than his last year with the Blues
Watch New Jersey once we get a goalie... you watch 😎
Still no noise about woodcroft? I find it very hard that anyone would want Keefe over Woodcroft. Both have made 2round, but woodcroft has made it twice in 3yrs
have you seen keefe's winning percentage in the regular season? (minimum 300 games)
You realize that’s not the sole metric front offices use to judge coaches, right?
But he had a super team
No chat about Hilderbeast? man o man he is your Goalie of the future wake up boys!!!!
God please let Joe Queenville be the Leafs next coach.
Is there a John Luck pickard here?
Shrimp on the barby is AUSTRALIA not AUSTRIA 😂
Typical Leafs fans not knowing anything outside of Toronto.
Shanahan is going to regret his decision to stay for another decade.
Berube is a Flyer through and through.........would never be the Devils coach. His first pick when he becomes the Flyer coach will be Pelle Lindburgh
23:52 😂 facts
man if we could hire Hunter as heads coach!!!
Sorry I don't buy Dave Jackson saying "refs need to be protected from the media or it will be too confrontational" The NFL, NBA and the MLB have no trouble having their officials do press conferences after important games like the playoffs. I still remember back in 2010, a Detroit Tigers pitcher was in the last inning of a no-hitter, but the ump screwed up the final out by mistakenly calling the runner safe. After the game, the ump faced the media and fully admitted he got the call wrong. The media didn't attack the guy because he generally felt bad about robbing the kid of the no-hitter. It was completely civil and all sides parted peacefully and people even respected the ump more for being man enough to admit his mistake.
The NHL is the only one of the big four that don't allow this. Is the NHL ref union that strong? Are hockey fans more of a threat than football, baseball and basketball fans? (probably) I'd love to know what the NHL's official stance for not allowing refs to face the media is.
It's a joke. What kind of opinion are we supposed to get from a former ref. The NHL needs to make major changes or an overhaul of the refereeing and how the rulebook is enforced.
Why? What good would it do for anyone if the losing team's homer reporters are just gonna lay into the ref when they don't get the call they want, good or bad? I get it for when a ref makes a "bad" call...but isn't that what's being debated, whether or not it's a "bad" or "good" call?
Much better for a spokesman for the refs to talk to the referee, and then go out there to detail the call in full, including chapter and verse from the rule book, then take questions and answer as best he can, just like policemen do.
My big beef with officiating is that a call can't be reviewed without penalizing the team challenging the call if it's wrong. EVERY close call or potentially missed call should automatically be reviewed by the refs or a judge not on the ice without a challenge required, using video and the works. If it's minor enough, the game can continue meanwhile...and a suitable penalty or decision can be reached later in the game, or even the next game if it's in the playoffs (e.g. Bennet's hit on Marchand).
Then, if a team feels it was the wrong call, they can challenge afterwards. But the idea that you only get ONE review, for which you might get penalized, is b.s. Why the hell do we have so many cameras then, except to agonize over what the right call should have been?
Winnipeg is the team that is built perfectly for a coach like Berube plays . Seems like they already are sold on Arniel
Get to the point Tripp!
...had a coffee in my hand, ugghhh !! we better win 1 outta 2
Tripp!!
Or Claude Julien
Alain Vignault
I think Leon is one of those guys who has realized how much it takes to win the cup, which is why he coasts on some regular season games
edit Marner should do that too instead of coasting in playoffs
Marner needs a winning experience -- another guy that's been hurt by not having Olympic/world hockey.
Babcock was right… about this team
Dale Hunter but I doubt he would accept the offer.
seems to be a different kinds guy
Maybe if they make his brother the gm. Both hunter brothers are smart
We all know the Refs suck in the playoffs, stop trying to downplay it
We need an improved video review. Penalties and other stuff need to be included in the review.
@@gameburn178 games would take 5 hours lol
You guys seriously don’t know how to use the sound board. It’s always horrible timing
You can tell the producers on the show are really amateurs. Kyper is constantly having to spell out for them which clip to go to. You never see this kind of amateurism on Overdrive
NOT McLellan!!! He's garbage!
then it'll be him
What's wrong with him... I don't remember anything too bad about him.
@gameburn178guess you don't remember Edmonton
Definitely don't want Mclellen, c'mon really....
Berube, Quenneville, or Brindamour
The leafs need a Mike Keenan type coach. These free loader players need to be accountable. Too bad Patrick Roy is with the Islanders… Toronto needs a coach that is large and in charge. Tavares was the worst signing ever. He never did anything for the islanders in his 8 plus years there. They need more lunch bucket guys and less of the high paid floaters.
You know who else needs to go… BRENDAN SHANAHAN. He is a tyrannical type guy. He has to go in order for this team to have success.
Berube is half a decade removed from being successful. The league has changed, I don't think he'll solve the problems.
Do these guys realize that the Toronto Maple Leafs are done, take down that jersey and put up either a Canucks or Oilers Jersey! Man! What a disgrace!
🤢
The show is dedicated to the Leafs, everything else is secondary.
It's an Ontario based sports company which is why the Leafs take a priority lol I mean ffs they are in TORONTO shooting these shows.😂
@@user-fc2tj8lf2mdo they talk about ottawa at all? Nope not really. They are supposedly the national media for hockey but they talk mainly leafs.
Are you guys drunk ? The officiating is bad ! Call it out. Don’t worry, you won’t be fined. 🤨
With the many cameras and instant replays we can see how many obvious missed calls after missed calls are clear.
That’s their job. Enough excuses. It’s making a mockery of the playoffs.
A former referee defending referees, colour me shocked.
Im a Canes fan through and through, but my fellow fans are delusional thinking were gonnw beat the rags 4 games in a row. I hope I'm wrong, but i dont thnk any of these 8 teams left are getting swept.
If Canes win game 6 at home... anything can happen in a game 7.
@willparks1107 of course anything can happen, my point is all the people acting like game 6 or game 7 is in a vacuum. They'd still be sweeping the Rags, and I just don't see it. I don't see any one of these playoff Tema left getting swept. The odds don't magically reset. That's all I'm saying. If you try to flip a coin heads four times in a row, ans the odds are X, the odds don't get better after the first 2, then after the 3rd the odds get even shorter. I'm hoping Canes can pull it off, nothing I want more than my boys to see a cup win like I got to, and momentum and pressure are real things, but I've seen so many people I know act like now it's not as hard as it was going into Saturdays game, cause it's just as hard. But hey, I hope like everything I'm wrong!
@griffisjm we will see how it plays out. If they play with the same intensity I like the odds. Mindset should still be just win 1 game.
no slices... just full cakes, yummy!
Invite a former ref on the show, ask him what he thinks of all the terrible calls in the playoffs, and he says it's above his pay grade? What an ahole. Why did he even come on the show?
Please don't hire Mclellan!!!!!1
Sammy is terrible. Please take his mic away!
Please God not Mclellan. Anyone but him
Mathews didnt get his 70, selfish doink......and that was that. period.
Sign a world class goalie. Look at panthers goalie or tampa bays goalie.
26:10 Oh the sheer irony of a LEAFS fan of all people talking about “getting every call” BLAH BLAH BLAH, GET OVER IT GUY, we get it, you’re a B’s HATER!!!
There are no bigger whiners than Leafs fans. None. Never. 40 years I've seen it. Leafs whine like no other. Goes with the sucking.
Obviously you tune out Montreal and Vancouver fans.

@@Gotcha74 Look back to Whine Gretzky. Doug Gilmour was correct. Wayne was a whiner who required a cementhead and mcsorely to protect his noggin. Biggest homers ever
