Dont use the retrieve to close it. Everything you close it using retrieve youre causing a loop. Always close it manually.

Let go. Depending on the weight of the rig you’re using, if you keep your finger on the line too long, you’ll snap off in most cases.

There was probably slack in the line behind where you were holding it with your finger. You may need to unwind the entire spool until you get to the part that’s messed up. Then with tension on the line, reel it back it

It would only burn your finger if you were whipping the bait out with braid line. You could use braid just cast lightly so you don't tare your fingers up
