Today we look at the broken menace of a card Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty, and judge whether it should be unbanned!

Considering that Barrier statue of the storm winds is banned I’m honestly fine with Link Simorgh coming back. The other monster that commonly gets brought out with it that being Mist Valley Apex Avian is not nearly as oppressive of a card on the field and doesn’t really limit the opponent as much as the statue did!
Well there is one monster that almost does the same thing as statue, and that is Assemblue Robin, with many materials attached and under Simorgh she can bounce enough special summoned monsters til you are forced to normal summon and then it's GG
Apex Avian can be looped with Thunderbird ya know... Since Avian isn't once per turn
@@Shaman5EUSK it's balanced by there being an opening when thunderbird is able to summon itself back, you force the apex by chaining anything and thus lock breaks.
@@DarkSymphony777also without union carrier it's not exactly easy to get mist valley thunder bird out. Additionally, it's a thunder, not a winged beast, so it's not searchable off most other BBW cards. And being level 3 means you couldn't splash this into a spright tri brigade deck or something
@@lz9275 Sigmorgh doesn't really do much for Robin tho, LL already have in archetype target protection.
Floowandereeze cannot use Simorgh... you cannot Special Summon the turn you use Floowandereeze monster effects.
if you normal summon during your opponents mp2 you might have some birds on the field to like make a simorgh with
If you had at least one bird on field you can use the map (field spell) to use the extra normal summon to summon the other two birds in hand, then you would be able to summon Simorgh. Just as long as you don’t use either of your little birds effects (both on field and when banished).
You won’t have manny opportunities to use it in Floowandereeze, but it can be put in the extra deck if you find yourself in such an unlikely situation. That and you need to fill the extra deck anyway for Extravagance and Prosperity.
@@passtheyaoi Then you cannot use the Floowandereeze monster effects that turn, and that is the strongest aspect of the deck, and where it gets most of its interruption.
Raiza loops are the main disruption and Simorgh kills that. There is no scenario where you want to Summon Simorgh.

@Yasharth Pandley floo absolutely can use this card. Map+banished bird set up allows there next turn to have 2 normal summons without using floo effects, which is typically how they made rank 1 lyriluscs in order to make zeus. Definitely can make simorgh in alot of circumstances.
For any Carls in the audience (Carl: Magic the Gathering player who is scratching their head at the volume of text in the sober bird), Simorgh:
- Gives Hexproof to itself and three other birds you control
- Lets you tutor a bird between level 1 and 10 depending on the amount of used spell/trap zones used (which almost always means you can get Apex Avian, a counterspell/counterability on big legs, or Barrier, a horribly one sided in this scenario stax piece)
- Also it cannot be a Link material, so like, you cannot use one of the most effective non targeting removal available in the game in Goddess of the Underworld

It is a tutor to the field. That is an important distinction since tutors in magic ate normaly to the hand. Also while the Barrier Statue (the stax piece you con tutor with this) is what most likely got this card banned that card got banned itself now so the best thing this card can tutor now is a counterspell on legs. And while that is still a good thing to do in YuGiOh it is not gamebreakingly strong or anything.
Also: "If this Creature would be destroyed by combat, you can destroy another Creature of the same Type instead"
It doesnt give Hex Proof. Raidraptor Ultimate Falcon would have Hex Proof.
@@Phoenix3Fighter Not precisely. Hexproof is specifically targeting protection. Magic does not have the concept of "Unaffected". The closest there is would be "Protection from Everything" but that also gives combat protection and doesn't give protection against non targeting, non destruction removal.
@@Phoenix3Fighter Ultimate Falcon is unaffected wich is far better then Hexproof. Hexproof just means it can't be targeted but everything that dosn't target still works. That is not the case for Falcon.

I need my simorgh " bird" back for my harpies deck 😜, they want to make harpies deck weak that's why they dont release new support cards for harpies archetype!! And they want that cute bird banned for some weird reason !!
Okay, how about putting the Magic players against each other with decks with long combos and see how it turns out, like throwing them in an the deep end?
Would love to see e.g. Jamin and Toffel do like Branded vs Kashtira while Adam and Leoni sit behind them!

Hear me out: 4 player commander feature match. Featuring the Yu-Gi-Oh! team. But then on the YGO channel, we have the Magic crew playing fun things as well.
Simorgh iirc mostly saw play in Tri Brigade Lyrulisc, not Floo. You'd have to consider its strength in Tri Brigade. Without barrier Statue, it can mostly grab Apex Avian or Lyrulisc extenders. How strong this is depends on how good Bird Up is.
Ofc as a Harpie Tri Brigade player, I'm biased and want it back.

But their archtypal gimmick prevents them from going into the extra deck.
@@BramLastname yeah, that's pretty much why they don't play it. However, lyrulisc tri had no such restrictions.
I have harpies deck and simorgh of sovereignty is strong and nice support for that archetype , while they dont add new support cards for harpies and this link ' bird ' got banned pure harpies destroyed and doomed so much !!
Simorgh can come back. With the Barrier Statue being banned, the biggest threat that it could summon is Apex Avian. Also setting up the infinite negate with Thunderbird would be much harder with Union Carrier being banned as well. Since Thunderbird is a Thunder monster, it doesn't even have that much of a synergy with most decks that use Winged Beasts. In most cases, the only way to set up the infinite negate would be hard-drawing into Thunderbird and have a free normal summon just for it.
Sure, as Leoni said, Floowandereeze could use it but it would be a very clunky side option, due to the restrictions of the archetype, also they have much easier ways to get Apex Avian onto the field.
I think you could absolutely unban Simorgh. The only consideration I would have is whether Harpie's Feather Storm would become a problem with those two together. With how ridiculously strong decks are right now, I really don't think Simorgh deserves to stay on the ban list though.
I have a harpie deck playing both on master duel and i can tell you know feather storm is no issue hysteric sign and trap trick are cards that can search it. no deck playing simorgh plays trap trick.

Yea I don't know Floos lock themselves out of special summoning with almost every effect.
You'd have to misplay really hard for Floo to get out a link 3 and at that point you were likely going to loose anyway.
I think there's one additional detail not mentioned that justifies unbanning Simorgh.
The loop Adam mentioned was made with a card called Mystic Valley Thunderbird. This card would summon itself when bounced by Apex.
Thunderbird was "tutored" by Union Carrier as a spell, which was the enabler of the loop and ihas been BANNED a while ago.
So right now, Simorgh would barely do anything except addding an extra interruption to decks that haven't been relevant for half a year.

Yeah, with Union Carrier and Barrier Statue out, Simorgh can come back at 3 and it won't be a problem unless/until Konami prints an absolutely busted wind winged-beast main deck monster.

Note that the simorgh summoning condition is not arbitrary. The simorgh main deck monsters also have effects relating to open spell/trap zones
It can come back to 3 without having an impact so long as Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds stays at 0. Dark Ruler No More just laughs at it all day :')
It's December 2023. Union Carrier is banned. Barrier Statue of the Stormwinds is banned. This big green bird can safely come off the ban list.
While I do agree is too tailor made for birds, I don't see it very often in master duel, I think last time I saw it was 3 months ago and I've faced floo a lot but they rarely go into it.
Floo isn't good at link climbing, and Simorgh was banned in the tcg before Floo was a major meta threat. The deck that primarily uses Simorgh is Tri Brigade Lyrulisc, and is the deck that should be considered if Simorgh can come back. Winged Beasts work with Tri Brigade's strategy, so any winged beast archetype that works with a graveyard has potential to use Tri Brigade and break this card. Floo doesn't do graveyards, and locks special summoning, so it doesn't really mix with Tri Brigade and Simorgh.
Harpies is the other major strategy that can use this card, but they're not meta.
Master Duel shows that Simorgh can come back at 3 and it wouldn't be a problem.

You didn't talk about the bird lock with Avian, pulling out that lock with simorg going first is very easy

So the card was pretty much banned because you could summon the Wind Barrier Statue from the deck. The Statue is banned now. Best thing it can get is a an Omni negate now. Card could come back honestly. Both it and the Wind Barrier Statue hardly saw any play until Floos. Ban some Floo stuff and let the other bird decks have something to help them out.
I found it funny barrier became far more toxic because of floo.
Totally disagree. First of all, it's a terrible play to make simorgh with floo. Second, floodgates should always be the banning priority. Third, as it was pointed in the video, wind barrier saw play because of simorgh until one of the two had to be banned.
@@joaopedro1322 By that logic, the other statues should be banned too. They're the same floodgate. I agree that Simorgh is probably an iffy card to unban. Being able to summon from the deck is always a strong effect. But right now it would just be an extender like many decks have now already, or an extra negate. And yeah, Simorgh doesn't really work in Floos. I just know Barrier got banned because of them. Simorgh got banned because of Tri-Brigade I guess. Even through they aren't doing much now. They could use a pick-me-up.
@@darcytoews8841 simorgh got banned because it could cheat the wind barrier from the deck. The other barriers aren't the same because there isn't a reliable way to summon them from the deck and make it floodgate only your opponent.

yes, one more omni doesn't break birds or dinosaur decks. especially when the investment is 2 ED spots and a brick (apex avian).
I think with the new support, dinosaurs wouldn't even run this...
It's not really a brick in most of the decks that use it. Most run tri-brigade so when you make ferijit and link it off you get the mulligan effect.
It does have anti synergy though because bearbrumm locks you out of everything except tri brigade if you search revolt, which provides a lot of follow up for the decks, you can't actually use the simorgh effect to summon apex avian
Leoni is usually the more bubbly one, but this time pure rage at the birbs.
I would love to see simorgh come back. It allows me to end on something in harpies that is actually relevant and with storm winds gone I don't think it'd be an issue honestly. Though that being said tri-sprite would be considerably stronger with it's return.
Yall really need to do somethinga about the white balance on the camera come on guys. Carl looks so much better that adam and leoni, those poor guys look like white ghouls or something. And at 10:28 when he comes into frame with carl you can see his actual normal human skin tone so it's not even that he's pale it's just that the balance is absolutely trash. I think I commented this before but it's so annoying to see two people look like they're wearing adams family make up for no reason it just looks like bad quality like seriously who's balancing this.
I only play ygo for the birbs and let's be honest, Simorgh isn't that broken, it is equivalent, in the end phase, as a negate... wow, not like every deck and its grandmother could do that. and that omni cannot come to the field if there are enough backrow... I play simorgh lyrilusc on master duel and I don't even bother to bring out this card before turn 3, as the double big simorgh + (assembled nightengale + assemblue robin or UDF), does way more, for way less than one omni that you have to sacrify 3 birbs to go into, you can make udf with 2 birbs in hand and the 2 simorghs with the onslaugh+a birb in hand.
Outside of its archetype it's not even that strong, it has no protection except the negate of the apex and protects from targetting, at best 3 winged beast, which is cool but clearly not enough. when you have monsters like apollousa, long juan that makes baronne in one card, the integrity of the cashtira archetype and all those combo fest it is ridicolous to ban a birb that takes 2 spaces for one omni and lakeluster protection. Oh yes and btw I must add that you have to play a hard garnet that turns off your simorgh if it goes to the grave or is banished? Ash stops it to etc... of all the cards on the banlist I feel like simorgh is one of the least deserving modern cards to be placed there.

And you have 7 slots for the master duel tax. If you want to play the full 9 you can cut one jack in the hand and one of any lyri except beryl as 2 is important for turn 3

1x utopic draco futur
1x harpie conductor
2x simorgh of sovreighnty
You can cut some lyri for other rank 1 staple but I'm not a big fan of it, I also tried with the desperate doom eagle and shuraig but it just never came up so I went all in lyri
Other cards I tried:
-wynn the wind channeler, cool but has anti synergy with perfection and jack does overall better
-simorgh of protection, neat for rank 4 plays but objectively worse than just sticking to the consistency of R1
-more hand traps, shure you can but then start by cutting the jacks in the hand and the 2 ofs small lyri except turquoise and beryl.
Hope you like the decklist its really fun to play once you get how the engines synergise ^^
Barrier is banned, a non-generic Link 3 monster that requires a card from the deck to special summon that cannot be summoned by other ways really isn't a problem

The Spell Trap condition isn't arbitrary. It's meant to synergize with the other Simorgh effects. The problem is that the other Simorghs suck.
Well this one is safe unban tomorrow and almost nobody give a shit about, the main problem is turbo something like barrier Statue on high negate board, but since barrier is ban you not really have a lot choice to summons like the best probably just apex avian.

This card is pretty nasty in Spyral. You play the lyrulisc rank 1 to reset the amount of times you can cycle quik-fix and use the rank 1 to make simorgh. You can make knightmare gryphon to set harpies feather storm from your deck and summon apex avian, as well as your normal spyral board, potentially a u-link + iblee lock. Spyral is at full power now and is really insane in MD, I’m surprised more people aren’t playing it

Ban also Avian and Dark Simorgh and this shit can come back.
Fun fact: You can read all Harry Potter books from start to finish faster than reading out a full 40card yu gi oh deck

The card it's fiiiine Bird up won't do much, Lyrilusc lone will need more than that to be okay, any floo player who makes this is as bad as one can get. Wind barrier is banned.

They should just ban mist walley thing instead of simorgh. Like people only used mist walley bird to have infinite negates and nothing else. The reason simorgh still banned is probably due to it even tho it's not a meta strategy it's nasty enough autı win if you manage to make it
Since they banned Stormwinds, I hardly see Simorgh in Master Duel. Even now, Tri-Brigade is the only deck I see Simorgh in and that deck hasn't been a common occurrence in months. As long as Stormwinds isn't in the game, Simorgh is reasonable.
I still use Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty because I play a Simorgh deck in Master Duel and I have never used the Barrier Statue in my Simorgh deck anyway.

I play birds. And this card is not broken in the slightest. Even when barrier statue was still in the game it barely mattered. A single 1001 attack point monster outs it.

Even if statue of Stormwinds wasn't banned, I think it's fair to say that bird of sovereignty has been power crept out of relevance.

If you ban statue and Thunderbird
All the problems are gone
Simorgh only special summon during the End Phase and cannot be used as link material. That means it's really hard to turn into an extender. Without statue you don't have an easy floodgate, and without thunderbird Avian can't loop it like it would before
Remember that thunderbird doesn't need to be on the monster zone, so it can be search by Union Carrier
Obs: Thunderbird is not a winged beast, it's thunder, so Simorgh can't search it

It can probably come back but unlike Halq I wouldn't be too bothered if this stays banned. This never does anything interesting, it's just making guys and for some reason having a brokenly strong protection effect for no reason.

The targeting protection only applies to winged beast monsters and Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty can't be used as link material anyway.
All cards that help Floo should be banned. All my real homies hate Floo.
Floo cant even summon this unless they are in a very weird gamestate and they have nothing to summon off it.
It can't be used with Floo. The small birds hard lock you from special summoning.

I love all my winged beasts decks but i don't have floo. Because so annoying and ' nerdy ' archetype , also they have treacherous mechanic summons that bring nerves to opponents 😜👍
