- Oh man, I kind of miss the era of the tiny puddles, but.. I also kind of don't. It always fascinated me to pull big fish out of these little places, even before I started this UA-cam journey. Ir happened a lot. Muskies, big channels, big bass, walleyes.. You name it. There were also a lot of days it was a struggle, cause ya know, it's a puddle. In the hay day of the tiny puddles this one was always on my radar, but I couldn't go because it was private. Now, it's still private, but if you buy bait, you can in fact fish it.

I've never seen an honor system bait shop. That's pretty cool. There used to be a small farm my friend and I would ride our bikes to that had all kinds of vegetables with a box to add money. We would stop and get a little snack on our bike rides. Even got a few odd jobs from the guy. It was fun being a kid and just riding around, doing odd jobs for a little cash. The good old days. (I'm only 40, but now I understand when people say "back in my day")
Yes you used to fish those spillways a lot. Those were my favorite. You were just a toddler saying you were 30. You almost made me cry.
First time Stache man has brought up old Benjamin in a few years. U guys need a reunion on a spillway somewhere
He mentioned him a couple videos ago when he fished for largemouth in that creek

Miss the tube's! I'd imagine those spillways have fish fluctuate in and out... The ones that had fresh rock dumped in them may be worth a shot again? Especially spring walleye when the water's flowing a bit more

I've been wanting to check out this place since they opened it to the public. Might have to take a trip down that way soon.
I use to spend alot of time fishing at a rock quarry that was 10ft deep or so. It was filled with bass and was always a good time. Couple years ago my boy n I went only to find out its now currently a working quarry and has been drained. 😢 I almost cried I was so disappointed. My kids loved time there.

Yeah, I fish a micro in Kentucky u would love it huge wipers, big blues ,flats ,Big smallies caught my smallie wiper pb ,it has native and Erie walleye sauger.Ty actually wanted to come fish it, but they got a new damn master .It's just not as good since she came.When they let lake down soon for winter pool ,I am giving my bass boat a rest and hitting the spillway caught 13.8lb wiper .6lb12 oz smallie 32 inch walleye. But if you can walk, u can find some big ones downstream when the waters down. Ty was going to come, but of course, I couldn't bc they take the water up down up down .I am sure you know that kills the bite .
Our last self serve bait shop closed years ago. The man who ran it retired when he was about 80 years old.

I live in a Mid-Illinois city of about 100,000 people. The nearest two bait shops are over 20 miles away, the opposite direction of the locations I like to fish. It's endlessly frustrating.

When I stilled lived on Long Island there were a few bait vending machines, no self serve store without breaking in though.

Josh, I took my sister at the time she was 10 fishing. She caught 72 blue gill, guess what I caught? 0 I had to remove them from her hook. This was literally 1.5 hours and my dad was there but he just smoked his pipe grinning 😁
