I want to discourage you from ordering anything off the dark web, but it's especially irresponsible to order live fish unless you're prepared to care for the animal. Piranhas ARE NOT the human eating villains many movies make them out to be. They are aggressive fish, but very timid and get spooked easily. I am well educated on fish-keeping for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. I hope you enjoyed the video :) Remember to keep those nitrates low 😉

4:20 said 50,000 likes on this video of getting in a tank with piranas.. you didnt specifiy, not once if you are getting a tank full of captive breed piranas that have been fed that day, vs wild piranas who havent been fed in a week or more? see im no expert but i know wild piranas who are hungry or starving enough will eat humans(but i also heard from many scientist, divers and researchers that have studied wild piranas and predatory fish like sharks, hammer heads, whales catfish and tiger sharks have all said "they dont like the taste of human flesh" its any blood from bio mass that attracts them like a dinner at a football family outing..

They will definetely need a much, much more bigger tank and more greens they can swim through and hide. They love to roam around wide, nestling between the greens together.

They are only dangerous to humans in the water if they are trapped in a pool and starving. Starving tends to make things braver about getting food

I’ll never forget when my friend said piranhas are safe- proceeded to dunk their entire face/upper body into the aquarium. The fish were definitely more afraid of them being in their tank. Was funny as heck tho. ( 5, 7inch red bellies and a 9-10? Inch black piranha)

If you check out Aquatic Arts, that's where I get a lot of my freshwater plants from. Plants that'd be great choices are java ferns, Amazon swords, red flame swords, vallisneria, hornwort, purple/green cabomba, and dwarf water lettuce. All of these are great at keeping a tank clean and healthy.
Also, fun fact: Piranhas and tetras are cousins. Anyone online who says that the rounder bodied tetras are completely peaceful, might not have experience with those fish. Even my ember tetras, who don't get longer than an inch, can be a little feisty with each other sometimes.

  • @ImaMossyguy
    @ImaMossyguy 5 місяців тому +7

Those piranhas need a way bigger tank than that aquarium plus tons of foliage to hide in, piranhas just like their tetra cousins need a lot of swimming space.

I'm guessing they would work fine with crypts, vallisneria, swords, and aponegetons. That tank is big enough to do Jungle Val, but it grows super tall, like 6 ft. Some others stay smaller like Corkscrew and Italian val.

Nice video! I thought you need to put the anti-chlorine to the water and then move the water(with anti chlorine) to the tank.
I didnt know you cant just add tap water then add anti-chlorine. Does that work with every aquarium? or is it just for the piranha tank? Thanks!

    • @jokervienna6433

I´d say it depends on what kind of fish you keep and the size of them. Usually (not always), bigger fish handle changes better. With piranhas I would do the water changes as above. Smaller fish are usually more sensitive, so there I would prepare the water before putting it into the tank. Then there is a big difference between salt- and freshwater. Saltwater species tends to be much more sensitive than freshwater species, when it comes to keeping them in a tank. Basically any saltwater species is adapted to very stable conditions. Freshwater species are mostly adapted to rapid changes (rainy/dry season, surviving in small ponds and big changes in water chemistry).

Back in the 90’s I took an American friend to the Orinoco Delta to fish for piranhas, he was an avid fisherman and he told me piranhas was one of the few fishes he had never fished. So, to the Orinoco river delta we went on a small boat, we passed by a community of Amazon natives living by the shore and soon found a spot where we knew there were some piranhas. The day was awfully hot, and in the Amazon, there is a small, dark, stingless bee called “pegones”, the bee is covered with a honey like sticky substance, and if they get on your hair, it’s like a piece of chewing gum. They love to eat to eat the wax out of your ears, and their buzz it’s pretty high, so they’re pretty annoying . Some of these bees showed up as soon as we stopped the boat, so we were trying to swap them all the time. Meanwhile, my friend started fishing using some pieces of chicken, and in no time, he caught a couple of piranhas, took some pictures, and all of the sudden one of my cousins says, I’m tired of these bees, and jumps in the water, followed by me. My friend got completely pale, I couldn’t see a difference in color between his face and his lips. He thought we were going to be ea5en by the piranhas, but we started laughing and asking him to jump, so he could not only s@y he fished for piranhas, but that he also swam among them…he never did.

People think those piranha are BORING?!?!?!
I might be the one of the only beauty influencers in your audience, and haha, I may be the only one thinking this while wayching lol.... but those piranhas literally look like some of the most Pat McGrath Swarovski crushed crystal shit I've ever seen in my life. Or the circa 2016 glitter backdrops we used to use for voiceover tutorials.
Lol. That rant aside, always love your videos and they always bring me to a place of calm. Especially onces that are on location in the wild on beaches or in the ocean. Also always love seeing tanks and aquariums, but my fav are the ones in nature.
Which haha as a UA-camr, I know is a big ask to just say "oh yeah please just fly aroud the word and go scuba dive with underwater cameras. K thanks." Haha but you get the point. Thanks for the upload, always love learning from your videos. I have always been irrationally afraid of piranhas, so this was a big deal for me and changed my view on them. They're absolutely stunning

Raised piranha when I was younger. They got to be about twice the size of yours before I was forced to sell them to the pet store. They do get aggressive. It could be because I always fed them live fish or just because of their size. In the end whenever I needed to put a hand into the tank the alpha(?) would force one of the others out of their cave and that one would come after me. Had one jump completely out of the tank and end up on the floor chasing my hand. The last time I cleaned the tank before selling them they came at me in a pack and I was done.

I also have 6 Red belly piranhas.
Have had the for about 3 years now and they have grown insanely.
I started with 10 and as you said. With the pecking order they ate the runts and packed up.
Love watching them eat. They have a very specific order when it comes to eating.
Smallest one will always take the first bite ( to see if its safe)..
Then the others will engage in the eating feast as well.
They were very aggressive as mini's, but have calmed down a lot now that they are much much bigger.
Many friends wonder if they will bite. Have never een bitten and fingers crossed will never.
They know, if I go to the left side of their tank. It's food time.
    Right side is cleaning time.
I have them in a 1000liter sumped tank with an extra canister filter just for quick cleaning after they have eaten.

That’s crazy that the smallest one eats first, just the other day when George went to the massive hammerhead shark aquarium the piranhas in that tank did the opposite. They all avoided the food until the biggest one took a bite first. I know nothing about piranhas so I’m curious if it’s more normal for the smaller ones or bigger ones to eat first.
