03-06 Cbr600rr Lazy CCT Fix

  • It seems CBRs have some auto CCT issues like many other bikes, which can cause noisy timing chains and potentially serious damage.
    This is a 2006 Cbr600rr, with basically the same motor as 03-05, and similar to 2007+.
    This can help free up a sticky CCT, but if your noise continues, look into a replacement or a manual tensioner.

    Someone in the CBR forum posted about your video. Hopefully it helps my Rebel 500 that has over 65k miles, but I did order the part prior to finding the forum today.

    Great vid ! I will try this before installing the manual CCT. I would prefer to keep the OEM tensioner ...

    I fixed my CCT tensioner by just moving the spring back and forth with a screw driver that I modified. The spring was stuck and not moving, and the screw driver loosened it up, now the CCT noise is gone

    It doesn't work, save time get a manual tensioner, set it and forget it. I replaced my OEM with a manual on my 05 600RR in 2008 it's now 2024, I never had to adjust it 37,000 miles later

    The manual will give you dimensions to make that key for the cct. Fyi it has shoulders on it so it will not turn.

    I just purchased an 05, 600rr with the clack 35,000 miles i was waiting for my manual cct to arrive either broke timing chain or threw timing chain. 600 miles after purchased. i purchased an 05,600f41 with 47,000 with the clack changed to a manual eliminated all noise. Definitely will not ride next one with the clack til i replace cct.

    I made a tool by cutting a screwdriver shank to 21/2" Then bent the last half inch 90% useing a torch lighter. That gave laverage. Do this before buying anything. And turn counter clockwise to the left. To add tension.

    Is there oil pressure behind CCT? Should I drain before replacing?

    I hear a rattle / chatter right at 4500. On or off gas. Does this sound like cct

      Yes it could be

      @@themotofirm also do you know if it’s normal for the CCT part that springs out to be kinda loose. Like if I wiggle it there is some play

    • @themotofirm
      @themotofirm  2 роки тому

      There should be some play as it does need to move in and out easily. But I wouldn’t say it’s loose. If there’s any doubt about it functioning properly best off just to replace.

    You mentioned a whirling around at around 4-5k rpm. How did it sound after this diy clean up? I’m running into the same issue with my 03 600rr and I’m by no means a technician lol

    • @themotofirm
      @themotofirm  2 роки тому +1

      The CCT moved a lot better but the sound remained, and since it is a track bike, I figured I’d just do the manual CCT. The chain doesn’t make noise but the whirring is still there, although it does run fine. I’m guessing it’s the chain guides. I’m not an expert but a friend is, so I’ll probably run it by his shop to see what he thinks.

      @@themotofirm good thought. If it’s not too much to ask, feel free to add a comment to this video if others run into the same issue which I’m sure is a common occurrence with the early CBRs

      Can’t go wrong with an Ape tensioner.
      But to clarify, a tensioner will cause more of a rattling/clacking noise since the chain bounces around.
      My tensioner did not eliminate the whirring, but the chain is quieter.
      I will be posting a vid on the manual tensioner soon. Good luck.

    • @seanle5125
      @seanle5125 2 роки тому

      @Pedro López Velarde hmm. Strange because my chain is producing zero concerns. Just the whirl between 3-5k. But 4500k the sound goes away lol

    • @themotofirm
      @themotofirm  2 роки тому +1

      I’m saying a CCT will help rattling of the chain due to a malfunctioning auto tensioner (and prevent chain loosening on throttle chop in track situations) since the chain cannot loosen once it’s set.
      My whirring did not go away after replacing the tensioner (but rattle was reduced) so im going to ask a shop owner friend to see if I may need new chain guides, etc or if it’s even a concern. I don’t remember the bike making this noise and it’s running fine, but the last 3k miles have been on the track so worth getting a second opinion, ha.
