    At about 4:30, I think he's talking about cadences (or fills) being on beat 4. Vinnie Colaiuta plays cadences in a lot of the fusion he plays....

    Love your playing man . And I love the history you are so knowledgable about . A related matter ...the house i live in used to be a speakeasy . I am not supersticious but I am positive my house is haunted . Anytime i have friends over and we are drinking and hanging out you can feel that there is a " presence " . They come out for the party .

      Thanks Sweetfly! Maybe next time you feel the "presence" in your house, you should raise a toast and see they tell you some stories. I bet they've got some good ones. For more info on The Century Project, please visit: danielglass.com/Merchandise.html

    Wow, back in Chicago every music stand was a floor tom? LOL
    That'd be a cool effect if every horn player had a drumstick on the music stand and quickly took it out and all played a floor tom unison part for a big drum extravaganza!

    *THE JOINT IS JUMPIN' / "FATS" WALLER AND HIS RHYTHM*
    (J. C. Jones/Andy Razaf/Thomas Waller/Harry Brooks) Mills Music, ASCAP
    is in fact a commentary in song about the Roaring '20's, set in an undisclosed location in the Harlem District of Manhattan, New York, NY, USA.

      B. C. Schmerker Very Cool. I just played the show "Ain't Misbehavin"" here in NYC, dedicated to the music of Fats Waller. Great opportunity to play lots of 1920s-style music!

    What's the song they played?

  • @TheNamesWolf
    @TheNamesWolf 10 років тому +6

    Why do kick drums that period always have those mountain landscapes painted on them? I see a lot of those.

    • @DanielGlassDrums
      @DanielGlassDrums 9 років тому +6

      TheNamesWolf It was a trendy and popular look in the 1920s. As soon as Gene Krupa and others created the shield with their initials in it on the front head, the painted thing went out of fashion very quickly.

    • @willcochran5555
      @willcochran5555 8 років тому +1

      A lot of those 1920's drummers would put a light bulb inside their bass drums to light up those paintings.

    What is the song in the Intro?

    • @DanielGlassDrums
      @DanielGlassDrums 11 років тому +5

      The song is called "East Side Rumble," and is based on Royal Crown Revue's "Hey Pachuco." If you pick up "The Century Project" DVD, you can see the entire song performed live, plus a deluxe drum solo. Enjoy!

      Called "East Side Rumble." It's the final performance from my DVD "The Century Project," and is based on the song "Hey Pachuco," which was a staple of my band Royal Crown Revue.

    What type of hi hat used in the song?

    • @DanielGlassDrums
      @DanielGlassDrums 10 років тому +2

      It's a "lo boy" design, which predated the hi hat.

    Sorry to burst your bubble dude. Prohibition was not about drinking. The law forbid the manufacture and sale of alcohol--Not drinking. It was implemented to switch the country from alcohol to gasoline. Farmers and anyone that needed to fuel an engine made their own alcohol. Rockefeller had an excess of gasoline, a byproduct of refining, and had to sell it. Prohibition forced everyone to switch over to Rockefeller gas from self made alcohol.
