We used to keep maskovy ducks when I was a child. They multiply quick, they always lays eggs. The eggs were big and nutritious but the ducks to eat, I love them so much! Anyway...
The alpha male is a fearless leader, he protected the whole flock not only that, ours thought he was the alpha male of the whole household because we were a family of 3 females so he was very protective. He mostly used to stay close to the gate and questioned anyone who came by. He was huge and very intimidating and did not mind to bite. I love that duck!

I use duck eggs for baking, especially sponges. There's no need to separate the egg whites, as you do with hen eggs. They give the sponges a luxurious yellow color and moist texture. Very easy and except for breaking open it's easy.

I never understood peoples claims of goose and duck meat being fatty or greasy. I mean, the skin holds a lot of fat, sure, but the meat itself is quite lean, rich, and delicious. I don't care for muscovies, simply because of their attitude. We're getting Jumbo Pekins this year.

Great video. Have you had any losses due to predators since you allow them to free range in your yard during the day? I've raised Pekins, White Hybrid, Golden Cascade and Appleyards. Appleyards are by far my favorite due to the quantity and size of their eggs and their temperament. I had a "duckapolloza" event where we had 15 people compared the taste Pekin, White Hybrid and Appleyard meat. Appleyard was the unanimous favorite though Pekin provided more meat per bird. Good to hear that you like Appleyards as they are a rare breed used here in the States. I got mine from Holderread Farms.

Most of the ducks are hatched artificially in incubators and not taken away from their mothers Also this practice has been going on for so many generations and so long (I think that ancient Egyptians were the pioneers of artificial hatching) that many of the domesticated duck species don't even have the instinct to care about their eggs anymore and just leave them on the ground to rot away and not even forming a nest. These breeds have become very dependent on human intervention. Without us they wouldn't survive. That's what domestication does. Their psychology is also very much different from ours which makes your human impulses even less relevant. How would you feel if someone collected your menstrual bleeding each month and consumed it? See?... we are not alike.

Jessica Brown, Duck owner here. Farm ducks, like the she has on her farm, don’t fly off anywhere. But if you life next to a lake or a pond. Better keep a good look out them. They can easily fall prey to many predators. Best keep them in a fence in area. You can use a kiddy pool, if they want to swim.

I am a city slicker so I only know duck from the park or Peking duck in the WIndow from the Chinee restaurant. But they don't fly away? I started chickens a year ago. Only 3 left from about 20. A posom got into the coop. Killed 10 in one night. My dogs had a good day when I thought maby the chickens can roam in the yard. Like I've seen people do on utube. Well that didn't end well for some of them. And for some reason chickens eat way more than I ever expected. A 5gal bucket with corn last maby 2 months and I only have 3 chickens. Maby I have a million rats as well? Anyway it's not as easy as it looks. Def want ducks. But I can't let them roam and my cook isn't that big I say 10 birds max. And u feed them the green stuff that floats on the water? Algea or don't know the word for it. Have to find a way to get my hand on that. I live at sea we have seaweeds but never seen a duck at sea haha.
