Is this the first time Ben has looked at a hand plane and said “This is not the Way”?
Heretic...
While I'm a big fan of your solid body builds, this series has been a whole new level of fascinating. Thanks Ben
It honestly baffles me how Ben pushes the envelope of what a guitar can be again and again and still makes very functional and some of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen pretty much every time. I want one.
I think you should go for a full on acoustic in the near future. It would be so cool to see how you approach it.
I asked him that for quite some months now. And not only full acoustic, also full manual with use of all that beautiful hand tools. And no power tools. And last but not least, no stains, no paints, just he beautiful finish of the wood itself.
I second this ^
It'd take him a few years to finish, but yeah.
@@U014B Actually a full acoustic (spanish) build isn't any more work than what he is doing here. Using power tools less than he is already doing would just make it a whole lot more tedious,. Imagine cutting all those tiny slots by hand, wouldn't make the video any more interesting and just waste his time.
Yes. Do this next.
There's no better feeling than seeing the notification for a Crimson video and there is no emptier feeling than after you watch it and having to wait for the next one 😪
100% agree. At least we get two videos per week now :D
@@Kevin-nr9lj I can't really talk. I hadn't posted a video in 3 months 😅
Ben is the modern Bob Ross. I'm never gonna paint or build a guitar, but I watch 'em all.
@@FirelandOfficial Ahhh Yes! I can see the hair resemblance now!!!😂😂😂
@17:39 "...I love playing with wood...!"
Fnaarr, Fnaarr!
😁
Who doesn't?
Nice to see I'm not the only one who wipes off excess glue from my finger on the bottom of the workbench.
What I love about watching Ben is that he just gets on with it. I've been building guitars for over twenty years, and even teach others. Most people I've seen build guitars fret endlessly about the "right" way to do things. They are so paralyzed with whether they are using the "right" wood, or have the "right" bracing, or are using the "right" technique, etc., that they never actually complete their builds. Ben just looks at it and says, "Right! I need a bit of wood there. Let me cut a piece and glue it in!"
A note to the editor this time: I like the miniscule change in the editing of this episode, and i loved the music in the background. The combination og the saw sounds, the music and the nice transitions made me feel at peace as I was watching, more than any other episode, as well as inspired to keep going strong on my own project. Quality work from both content creators this time. Keep up the good work.
And, of course, thank you Ben for being who you are and sharing this stuff with us 😊
It seems that one of the things that made 2020 tough, was that I somehow forgot to watch Ben's amazing builds. I've solved that, by spending several days binging builds. Now that I'm caught up, I can get back into looking at the 'in between' things. Love the content, as always. You're a madman, Ben.
11:07 the origins of the other way clamp from the shreks little brother (previous vid)
Metaaaaaaaaaaaaa
At 14.41, your namesake being chased by a small bird makes me think symbolically of you being chased by this project.... lol. Excellent tutorial of what it takes to build this style of instrument. Mind blown! Can't thank you enough for sharing your skills!
Seeing all of the clothes pins clamping the kerfed lining in place is one of my favorite parts of an acoustic guitar build. The other favorite is probably seeing the finalized bracing or the bracing glue up if using go-bars.
A true artisan you are, Ben. Watching you craft this work of art, and the acoustic piece that played in the background, has made my Saturday afternoon.
Truly Ben, the silver lining of COVID has been watching your projects from your home studio. Thanks for the very entertaining and educational content.
Only Ben can make me feel inspired to buy a hundred clothespins... I'm loving the two builds side by side format! Will Nebula 2 have a dual humbucker set up, piezo pickups, internal mic(s), or possibly a bit of everything? Watching this series is a great way to start my Saturday; it always makes me want to create something rather than enter a vegetative state and waste my life.
How much fun to see Ben making an acoustic. Thanks Ben.
This whole video is incredible. The comic - timing edits, & the amount of skill & thought that goes into the build. I mangled my guitar, just trying to do my first setup.
Bless Crimson & all who sale in her! 😌
Stunning build this is turning out to be, hopefully it’ll inspire the fully acoustic build we’ve all been waiting for 👀
This series is so good. I have sat and binge-watched it all like it is a brand new Netflix show. I love the series and I am going to be watching every series you do. :)
The purfling on there makes me think what you could do with checkerboard binding on something eventually. This build is shaping up amazing, the first nebula is what brought me to your channel originally.
oooh! checker binding sounds awesome! and thank you for following along with this crazy thing that my life has turned into, I really appreciate it. B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars Ben: Please don't distract yourself by making miniature pieces to go with the checkerboard binding ... ! 😂
... but, I'm all for such binding ...
It's so incredible that a part that will be hidden inside has to be perfectly presentable, that's some next level care.
welcome to the world of handmade acoustics ;) plenty of videos on how to make flamenco guitars by hand if you're into that sort of thing, my dad used to make them
my dad used to build flamenco guitars mostly by hand as a hobby,
seeing all those clothes pins made me really nostalgic, i can still remember the distinct smell of rosewood (what he mostly used for back and sides)
I have a similar sense memory of the hide glue I used to use at West Dean College.. Good times :) B
you are a fantastic inspirational luthier Ben, you make the impossible seem possible for all of us amateurs that watch you, thanks man.
Just finished watching the full raw edit on Patreon! It's great to see the process you go through, including how you change your mind and direction as you build this project.
The customer who ordered this build must be the single most excited human on planet earth watching this series unfold.
@@microchrist6122 no thanks I wouldn't like to see Chinese children starve to death while making my
If I'm not wrong, I think Ben said he is building it for himself. Even more exciting!
@@josephmassohe's building "shrek" for himself,I'm not sure if he's building this for the guy who got the first Nebula or is just mentioning that as an inspiration
@@LAZARCAR98 True, you are right. I got mixed up between Nebula and Shrek. Thks!
I've been playing with the idea of doing a modern arch-top style guitar and this is giving me lots of inspiration! So many guitars to build, so little time...
Somehing inspired heavily by violin/cello, perhaps? They have arch-tops. =)
Fascinating watching the master at work. Nice one, Ben
Figured wood where no one will ever see, Ben, you mad-man!
The way you constantly challenge yourself on builds like this is cool, and the results speak for themselves! Your a true artist Ben! Please continue!
I learn so much watching your video’s thanks for putting them out here for us!!!!
I wasn't quite able to picture how all the individual pieces would be held together after the last episode, but now I'm just sat here with a dropped jaw - that looks absolutely amazing!! I'd still be scared to death about having to get the kerfed edges of the sides ready to marry with the top and back so I'm really looking forward to seeing how you do it.
Good music today. And nice pace on the building. Coffee must have been better than usual
This is such a fantastic build. I love this journey. You are really upping your game with this one. The end product will be spectacular. Thank you so much!!
I just want to say thanks for making these videos of your amazing works of art. Its the highlight of my Saturdays and Wednesdays. Love it.
It's looking great, really good to see a semi acoustic being built. Some great features being included in this build. The quality of the camera work is top notch.
Nice background music Ben! I love that build.
Really enjoyed the video. I feel much less nervous about attempting an acoustic now. I also loved the massive crimson inlay/logo lookalike at 15.11.
Amazing work so far, look forward to the remaining parts of the build
So much delicate work and attention to detail, thoroughly enjoyable to watch it come together. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you. More next week :) B
Love this build! The intricacies are captivating. Always looking forward to your builds, especially this one.
Glad you like them, I'll keep it coming! B
Ben. This gas been one of the most Enjoyable builds you have done in a long time. It is very informative but also captivating. Love it when I'm enjoying learning. This series will definitely be bookmarked for future reference. Please please keep making more videos like this one. Thank you very much for sharing it with us.
What a great build. Saturday morning is fun again.
A pleasure to watch you work.
Without superfluous intonation, wowsers this is a stunning build!
that kerfing is just a BEAUTIFUL technique
This build really shows you are master at what you do
Amazing! really enjoyed this build till now! thank you once more! Greetings from Greece!
My favorite most enjoyable Crimson video SERIES. Watched all these all the way through.
Glad you enjoy it, I'm having fun too, seriously stretching my abilities and that is awesome! B
You can tell you've been watching/listening to some production training. Some great shots. Liking the instrumental variations too.
By far my favorite build so far, would love to see a acoustic build this wild if that is possible in the near future!
Keep the wood shavings flying!
A beautiful piece of craftsmanship!
Excellent work Ben. Really enjoy your work. I find it really inspiring. I am working on my own project (as have more time at the mo due to lockdown an furlough). I watch something of yours every day to keep the inspiration and enthusiasm high.
Hey Neil, Thank you for your support man.. I'm glad you are finding stuff to do in lockdown and have furlough to keep those darned pennies rolling in. Crazy times for sure but I certainly feel lucky to be in my situation and able to do all of this.. Happy building! B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars wow, stoked for the reply. Thanks for the effort you put in, replying to people is above and beyond. Cheers, an be groovy.
Ben, this is looking exquisitely organic. You are a true inspiration to us aspiring guitar builders.
You're a wizard with wood, Ben.
I am merely a work in progress, but thank you nonetheless.. B
I really like the acoustic background music you used in this video, it’s quite interesting to listen to yet not busy enough to draw attention away from what you’re doing. I like a lit
Awesome, thank you! I phoned Talitha to tell her I loved her choices of music this time and asked her for more like it! B
Hola Crimson, ya estoy ansioso de ver terminada esa guitarra
Heavily flamed sycamore clothes pegs (kerfing clamping gimbles?) with gold hardware and finished in stunning stains, now available from Crimson Guitars?? 😉
Shut up and take my money!!! 💴
Very creative approach to an acoustic body. Very interesting process of making kerfling.
Thank you very much! You can use a similar process on the bandsaw too fyi B
This is so therapeutic to watch, thank you 🤘🏻
Last two vids seemed a bit off. But in this one you're up and running again, head on. I hope you're all right. I wanted to let you know that you're a massive inspiration, I just started my first very own scratch build and entered TGGB 2021. Thanks
Some really good idea's in this build. Looking great.
Thank you Ben, it is amazing watching, just the right balance of detail and timelapse. I wish I could think of a cool question to ask!
Cheers Max, letting us know we are on the right track, or not as the case may be, is incredibly useful.. so thank you, thank you very much! B
Absolutely loving this guitar, the best thing about this series is that unlike others I have absolutely no idea what you are doing until you have done it, especially referring to the sides and sound holes...I cant imagine how you keep all that in your head and spill it out into the guitar, it's going to be a real stunner, player and totally original...def "career defining" my fav for quite a while....cant wait to hear it
Glad you're having fun.. I think my 'method' with this build is to paint myself into a corner to a point that I have to find a solution for it.. ie the faux live edge soundhole/support section of this episode.. I too am really looking forward to hearing her. :) B
Master Ben Crowe at work. Truly masterful build thus far. I so pleased to see you show your luthier skills at the maximum, this turning out to be one of your most impressive builds. All i want to say is more! more! more! Cheers, from Canada! enjoy your spot of tea, you deserved it. Oh! and the padauk guitar! is the "explorair'' as mentioned in another comment!
I wish we could have had shop teachers that had this kind of skills and enthusiasm back when I was in school. I, as well as several others, might have ended up in another trade. LOL
Amazingly delicate work the sound port looks great, can.t wait to see the inal result
that´s one more Reason i love your Content, you´re always willing to go the extra mile...big Thumbs Up!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just going to call it now. We're going to get a crimson video short of Ben making some shellac finished walnut clothes peg 😂😂
I was tempted.. I truly was! B
It's coming together beautifully Ben !
Why thank you. B
I really enjoyed this one, as a kid I used to try to build guitars, I like all of your videos as well, very cool
Thank you very much! You should try again, it is a blast! B
The level of detail is unreal !!! Your a master mr ben crow !!!
Thank you.. I feel like my journey in the craft is only half way at best, I love the learning and progression I feel in some builds.. this certainly is one of those and I am having a blast! B
Wow I can only dream of what you are going to achieve in 10 years time .. for me the best already and you are inspiring so thank you ....
If anything, this series has shown me how much I'd love to see you do some sort of full acoustic build, guitar or otherwise.
There is synergy with the guys at Rosa String Works - worth a look chaps!
Watched one video and subbed, great recommendation!
@@philmayfield1 Rosa String Works is a more traditional down-home luthier in the American tradition. Phil, have a look at the "chocolate" series on fixing a destroyed violin.
Really enjoying this acoustic build. As much as I enjoy watching the electric builds, this one is vastly more interesting with the internal bits. Thanks Ben!
This pandemic has changed so much. About the only thing I really look forward to every week now are your videos. I love seeing all the cool projects.
as always great job and explanation of step by step...
As an old conventional guitar lover I would have never dared to go in the direction you went with this build. A solid mahogany core would have been my choice. That’s said I love this project and I think you could build anything with these skills.
Hi Peter, Thank you! That was the original plan and I went off script.. I'm really enjoying where this is headed though.. and plans are fomenting for a full traditional acoustic guitar build at some point soon. B
19:30 ish nice music boost for an A+ production value :)
Watching the internal support design come together is great training!
The upper sound port totally wins the day; Stellar!
Glad you like it, we're starting to work on the finer points of the video.. ie music etc a bit more.. and I am really really happy with that sound port, it turned out better than I could have hoped :) B
Looking Good Ben can't wait for the next episode
I think you might appreciate this: I've been binge watching this build series, whilst sitting in meetings for $dayjob (yet more meetings that should have been emails) and restoring a Stanley No 5A plane I found at an estate sale for $5.00...
I need to correct myself. It's a Union X5A, from before the Stanley buyout of Union. It's pretty much the same size as a Stanley 5 1/2.
I really can't wait to see this when its complete!
this is looking awesome,i cant wait to see it complete.
You and me both! B
Absolutely fascinating process to watch
I didnt want this episode to end. One of the best of the series so far!
you are very nice.. we'll try for more like this then :) B
Beautiful work Ben!
You’ve out done yourself my friend. Really great work!!
Thank you! Cheers! B
I'm loving this build, but on top of that, that acoustic piece playing over you working was just! beautiful.
Talitha chose well :) B
Ben I've been meaning to ask, can you shoot some new videos of the new finish products like the melamine one? How to use and likely finish results? Thanks
Am I to gather from what you said about it being built "Like a steel string guitar," that it will in fact be nylon strung? It is really starting to look like something very cool. I asked about the nylon strings because it's beginning to remind me of the pretty unique guitar that Lindsay Buckingham plays. I cant wait to hear how it sounds.
This is exciting. Would love to have the ability to build something like this. Has a student on a course ever attempted anything similar?
Hi! More than great job! I am waiting for he new episode like you uploading the new GOT!😁
I know nothing about building a guitar, but from an aesthetic point of view may I make a suggestion? On the upper side of today's build, were you glued the sound hole, may I suggest to replace the support "geary" stripe on the outside visible part with a more sexy solid curved wedge? I dont know if you get my thought, because my English is kind of limited in technical terminology!
It’s us that should be thanking you for being amazing! I love watching a master craftsman at work. 🍺
It's just amazing! Unreal guitar!
I have a teisco hollowbody made like this it's the shape of an es335 about an inch thick at the sides and completely hollow no block down the middle the only bracing it has is a block around the neck pocket and a small piece of wood under the bridge
loving the music, reminds me of new yankee workshop
I already know it's beautiful, and I can't wait to hear it play. It may play as well without amplification as it does with amplification. I wonder if it will take off like the Les Paul did (The Ben Crow)?
I'm hoping it will be as beautiful sounding as it looks.. fingers crossed :) B
Amazing design and execution Ben!! Love it.
Glad you like it! More to come :) B
This is an incredible build. Holy crap
Can't wait to hear how this sounds! oh, and the staining :D
