Vini Reilly's one of those musicians where you can hear about three bars and know instantly that it's him. A truly unique genius in my view and hearing this takes me back to my teen years in Manchester in the 80's. Brilliant stuff - cheers for uploading.
some of the most beautiful music ever written, from a soul not of this earth, had the privalige to meet Vinni, and in real life, his soul shines in every way as much as his guitar
Whenever I hear Vini playing the guitar, I automatically think it would make a great soundtrack to a film. It would be a very sad or melancholic film involving a lost or unrequited love and probably be in black and white and involve long, sweeping shots of someone walking over the moors or on a beach looking all forlorn. Vini supposedly used to get lots of female fan mail when the Durutti Column were semi famous and I can see why as I've always thought his music sounded massively romantic in a non standard way. I know he hasn't been at all well over recent years and I hope as we reach the end of the year his health has improved and he's enjoying life. His music has never garnered as much attention or critical acclaim as it deserved in my opinion. He should be far wider known as a world class guitarist and composer of tunes.
Maybe not exactly the genre you had in mind but he contributed to Jerry Maguire. I know first hand Vini used have lots of female admirers and had affairs with some very attractive women - Vanessa Paradis for example.
I’ve loved Durutti Column Since the 80’s but I’ve never seen/heard this. I’ve always loved Albatross. Hearing Reilly playing it has blown my tiny mind. Thanks for posting it.
This sounds like an early version of 4 Sohpia. Rebellion came out in 2001, so my guess is that this was recorded in 2000. Anyhow, this is bloody marvelous..... weak at the knees.
A little late to the party but if you still haven't figured it out it's Albatross by Fleetwood Mac. Pre-Stevie Nicks era is very underrated part of their discography.
It must have been a hiding-to-nowhere generating interest in instrumental guitar music in the early 80's and so soon after the punk explosion. Still, you eventually learn to like what ya like regardless of what's fashionable.
He's not an exclusive Strat man: I saw him live a long long time ago, and he was playing a black Les Paul. In the Domo Arigato's video he appears also playing a (sunburst) LP. I think he had moved from Strat to LP and back several times.

15 seconds in and you already know it's him
amazing musician
Oh yes absolutely! Melancholy and euphoric at the same time

You met the the best! No one creates a more euphoric sound than Vini.
Privalige
Among the best and most creative guitar players of the 20th century. ❤️
4 Sophia from the Rebellion album 2001.
No other guitarist could lace Vini’s boots.
Thank you so much for the posting of this great man x

@@hudsonquay Didn't know about Jerry Maguire or Vanessa Paradis. Will have to get the JM film and see if I can hear any Vini on it now. Thanks.
@@hudsonquay Sure you're not thinking of Prince!! I know he has some big fans but something tells me Venessa Paradis wasn't one of them!
The greatest guitar player to ever walk the earth in my opinion.
Yes and John Martyn.
Also a kraftwerk fan, unusual combination of tastes!
Don't forget Bakfark just yet, tho. Even if he was, at his best, just being a Josquin '
'cover band'. :)

Beautiful, moving...he truly makes the world a better place. Thanks for sharing.
How could anyone thumbs down this. A truly unique musician who I adore
Give anything to be there watching this live.
In the world of all-the- same-guitar-rock,with so many "idiots bending the strings" like Zappa said, this is fresh air

Absolutely glorious playing, Vini. ❤️
J'aime beaucoup le travail musical de durutti et ce depuis longtemps merci thanks for posting
floating away with Vini always
Really into the frequency of these tunes!
01. 4 Sophia 0:02
02. Albatross (Fleetwood Mac Cover) 3:40
I think 3:40 is a variation of his song Storm For Steve. Albatross starts around 6:07
You are correct!

@@davidroberts7413 yes you're right. I was there doing the sound for Vini that night. I never knew about this video though.
i"ve been a fan for many years- it just sends me to a place that is not in this world- thank you Vini and thanks for sharing this Bruno
Come back to this often. Thank you.
Many, many thanks for sharing this with the world. Great!
Mental illness has made him disappear from the world.A true genius.Peace to you Vin.
Don't think that's quite right - a couple of strokes haven't helped. Search for the article in The Guardian (UK) a month or so back (June 2023?)
What? Did he die? When? How?
@gsikora31 He's still with us - just can't play like the fretboard God he was and so doesn't play anymore.
He's not mentally ill. Just sick. Had a few strokes that's affected his hand movement. Also he's skint...
pure. real....
god that 4 sophia at the start hits way harder than the recorded. The king
Great player.
Tony Wilson's favourite musician
Anyone ever done a rig rundown with Vini?!!!!
It is Sophia from the album "Rebellion"
Oh wow, I didn't figure out of hearing the album's that the vibrato was coming from his bar, but now it makes 100% complete sense
It's amazing. Thanks a lot for share!
Beautiful
I love Vini's music
Thanks . Now I know
Great player
Anyone else reckon the last tune sounds a lot like a 'Sun King' by the Beatles, and '3 A.M. Somewhere Out of Beaumont' by the KLF? Sounds good anyway.

beautiful
that DEFINITELY NEEDS A COAT OF MAGNOLIA!
inspiring
its def. 4 sophia, but he uses some of those phrases in a few other songs.
So glad he didn't get crushed by The Star Machine. Now if someone would just help him get a steady income from his work. David Gilmour? Hello???!!
There's just something about Strat people. They express a completely different part of themselves. They are almost different animals.
He's not an exclusive Strat man: I saw him live a long long time ago, and he was playing a black Les Paul. In the Domo Arigato's video he appears also playing a (sunburst) LP. I think he had moved from Strat to LP and back several times.

... and some Peter Green at the end. wow
Thanks, Bruno.
great video thanks!
Heartfelt and just beautiful melody! He deserves all the credit for the work he did with morrissey!!!! I think it’s horrible he didn’t receive it 👎
@zatapathiq Thanks-you so much.
Thank you!
Wow-where was this filmed? Looks like a private gig
anyone know when this was done? Looks around 2006 when those XFM sessions were filmed but could be wrong
Last tune sounds like Fleetwood Mac Albatross
+Rayza1983 I think is a cover of that song.
Yer was thinking myself, sounds awesome
He actually says at the end 'That was Peter Green'
It is Mello.
vinny reilly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i LOVE cocteau twins and 4AD records but why are you saying that?? Durutti Column was with Factory Records
