Listening to her aunt say, while watching the picture of him and his family at the beach, "and we were walking around in rags and hungry"... Idk how someone could do that to their own children and then be so carefree with a huge smile on their face...

My grandfather was a bigamist. He left my grandmother and their four children in America and moved around Africa and South America, where he married a woman in each continent. Three wives in a matter of two decades. We have half-family in both places and have since connected with them and consider them family as well now.
History has a way of feeling very recent when it comes to childhood trauma.

We had something similar with my paternal great grandfather. He moved his family from continent to continent during the tumultuous times of the early 20th Century. My grandfather and his sisters and mother were traumatized. I’m not 100% positive if he committed bigamy but we have family scattered between Europe, South America and here in N. America. My grandfather was born in South Africa, but lived in Europe, Russia and South America before immigrating here.

Happened to my Mom - her Dad left for work one morning and never came back - left no trace that I’ve been able to find - the four children were deeply affected - they went from living in a house, having a car, a good life to complete and abject poverty - Fred her brother was most affected I think bur Mom too feared abandonment - when my brother and I became her caregivers it was a conscious choice but driven too by her pleas never to leave her - we didn’t - she died here in her house, in her bed which is what she wanted - I will always cherish the last months with her - 96 is a good long life, she was well loved by many - this event shadowed her whole life, what more can I say -

I can understand wanting to start fresh and not be in love with who you married anymore. Perhaps him and Bella were soulmates.....it's the fact he just abandoned his children which I fail to understand. Even if he never saw them again, he could of at least sent them money. He looks as though he had the wealth to do so if he could take his new family on various holidays, provide well for them and emigrate too.

My great-grandfather was also a bigamist. My great-grandmother only found out about his other family when she was visiting him at the hospital in his final months. My mom told me she was really angry at him and that she said to him: "you choose me or you choose her!"

My great-grandfather wasn't a bigamist but he went around using women for sure. He was married, had three other women with children in different parts of the country and another family somewhere in China (his birth country). We found this out from doing an Ancestry DNA test and matching with one of his children... No wonder he used to make visits there a lot.

And now that I've earned almost 4 degrees and 2 graduate certificates, I find I don't attach to people in a co-dependent way anymore, which I should be able to do. You SHOULD be able to rely on family. You SHOULD be able to rely on friends. The people in your life SHOULD care what happens to you. But because they didn't and are so toxic now, I'm just happy to be free in the life I've built for myself on my own. I hope that helps someone. peace and love. 🙏🏽

@@sarcasticallyrearranged Many times it was a simple matter of economics; women had few jobs open to them even if they wanted to raise their children alone (which carried much stigma). Most avaiilable jobs were menial labor such as laundress, seamstress or waitress. Jobs like nurse, secretary and teacher became available to women later in the 20th century and required further training or education. I believe a lot of women just didn't have a choice; it was put up with the man or struggle economically for a long time.

It’s the ‘not knowing’… now they do 🙏👏 Leaving is one thing, but knowing they have no security or women’s welfare support those days - men who were bigamists were truly the worst 😡🤯. We can never know another’s heart - possibly he was running away from his conscience when he went to Australia - imagine having the incredible Kim Cattrall as your grandaughter and not knowing her…..🙈

@Heloise O'Byrne oh yes didn’t expect it much earlier - so many women have had it so hard with their ggeous offspring - men are missing out!! 👌🏼

@Heloise O'Byrne well u so right dear heart! I often think oh how good we have it ‘in history’….. but we still have a non-sensical gender pay gap AND let’s face it - men will control banking n will continue to make their choices according to their wishes….. also dominating ‘justice’….. I can understand why women have spun off and on lived their lands like ‘Lasbos’, or ‘Amazonia’ 😂

Unfortunately there are people that for selfish reasons make choices that affect the lives of other people without a second thought!! It's heartless and cruel especially leaving innocent souls blood of their blood behind. But these people don't have an empathetic bone in their bodies!! But as Kim Catrall's Mum said....if only you could see us now!!...maybe that was their good karma for the pain they suffered as children. Bless them all ❤

A very sad story I remember watching this on TV years back when it was first aired.
To leave your entire family behind and never contact them again you have be cold hearted calculating and selfish beyond all forms of normal comprehension and conscience.
The story of George Baugh could have been repeated thousands of not millions of times over
There many unscrupulous men at that time and before who abandoned their families simply put because they could and it was a feasible option in those days.
George Baugh and his sort wouldn’t have got away it in from roughly the 80’s onwards because of one thing: The computer
On his second marriage certificate he declared himself as a bachelor today this would have been documented and added to a national database and would have shown he was committing bigamy.
Secondly his trail would have been picked up and his lies would have caught him up in his lifetime

Such a sad story. Knowing how I am I would go to Australia and find his remaining family and let them know. I know nothing that happened was there fault but I’m sure they thought he was a good man. His 3 little girls wearing rags and had no food. Yeah I would let them know.

These 3 ladies gained 4 other siblings, I hope they are given an opportunity to get to know the 3 that are still living and not allow the decisions of their donor to impact their lives moving forward.
It sounds as if this person made impulsive decisions based on their individual needs "in the moment".
How often do you think this happens 🤔 to any person in their lifetime?
I can say it's happened to me, I moved 1200 miles away from family, (parents, and extended) to gain a better life with more opportunities for my children. It was the best decision I ever made! But I also lost out on years with my parents, their elders, and close cousinship.

Its not tje same but my 3rd great grandfather deserted his wife and left with rwo of their children. Took them back to ireland to live. They were ten and five. Whatever the circumstance, being seperated from your mother at such a young age can't have been easy.

  • @jessebriee3918
    @jessebriee3918 Рік тому +2

The grandfather was from a generation that had no real tangible concern over the family, wife and children he deserted and abandoned. Those that were of the Greatest and Silent generations were complete without morales and values. As it was easy for them to walk away from their commitments and responsibilities.
