I'm an old retired forester. When I first started working in the woods there were lots of lookouts. They were all connected to the ranger station by hand crank telephones and one of the first jobs when the snow melted in early summer was to fix all the breaks in the wire. We did pack trips with horses to survey and repair trails. The bunkhouse was next to the stables and I still remember the smell of horse manure and saddle leather. The lookouts tended to be eccentric characters and returned year after year. Eventually the lookouts were largely replaced by airplanes and the few that remained staffed by college girls.
They definitely used to be more used! Now there's fire lookout "rentald" where you pay like $80 to stay in one fore the night. Times have changed... sadly
Yeah... forestry tech worked wilderness ranger and engine operator (among others). Had the pleasure for a few seasons of opening, closing or performing minor maintenance on one of the last active fire lookouts on the Gifford Pinchot.
Best thing to have with bannock is honeybutter. Put some chunks of butter in a jar, pour in some honey, warm until the butter melts, give it a shake and dip the bread in . Lovely
Rosa……such a fun video. You do a great job of filming and editing. Your fried bread turned out wonderfully, and you made it so much better with all the goodies. Your drone shots were great. I love lookouts as I worked in one. I am always amazed at how confident and knowledgeable you are. I would love to camp a little with you. You are an inspiration to many. Glad you came out west to travel as there is so much beauty out here. Come to Joseph, Oregon sometime. Keep safe. Thanks for sharing.
You’re an inspiration, Rosa! You’re able to do what you do and you go girl! Example, I’m scared to drive but I have to anyway. You’re not scared to drive even in winter when I am! When I drive I think Rosa isn’t afraid to drive so why am I? Sorry if that sounds dumb but.. it’s true! And thank you for the backstory Rosa! ❤
I love your Steve Hoodie, I watch him too I was so sorry to hear about his wife, way too young to pass.....I liked that you gave a run down on how you got started in the car camping life, you were a brave you lady in the beginning now you're a pro...
For a first timer making bannock you did a great job, fried bannock is delicious, oven baked is just as delicious, it’s a delicacy up here in Canada, especially from us Indigenous peoples around Canada. I really enjoy your content keep it up 🤘🏽
Canadian here - my native friends have tried to teach me to make bannock but it's never as good as how they make it. They say the same thing about their own bannock vs how their grandmothers taught them to make it :D :D
Recently subbed to your channel. I just love people who vanlife vlog their day to day stuff especially like you who go out exploring in the backcountry. I don't vanlife but do go camping in the summer. Cant wait our first trip is next week and many more after that. You making a campfire makes me wanna go soooo bad lol.
Once you've explored/vehicle camped the western region of America. Especially western South Dakota and the states north & west of SD. You can't stop thinking about getting back there. Living in the densely populated eastern states is completely different after. (I sometimes think I'll never return east again. And just abandon my home here to live just like you Rosa. Freedom is EVERYTHING!)
Yes, you can Bake Bread inside a large Bush Pot with a lid. Turn the bush pot on its side next to your fire. Or right on the camp stove top. The closed pot becomes your tiny Oven!
I've been eyeing this Element that's been parked in a driveway forever. Maybe one day there'll be a for sale sign and I'll get one out on the road too. They're surprisingly versatile
Well, at least you have a vehicle. A lot of homeless people leave in the street each, plus you still have families that care for you. Just have fate each. Is okay to do this when you are young each. But remember something when getting older or old. Like in your 50s or so, this kinda living is hard on anyone's health each. You gotta have a permanent place when you get into your 60s or even 80s. Good luck. I will follow to just see your adventures ❤
You're backstory is interesting, not a dull rant of self pity at all.. you should tell people more about who you really are Rosa. btw.. i agree: the West is the best. I'm born and raised NYC, moved out here 30+ yesrs ago.. never even once looked back. Haven't been East of Colorado/Idaho once since then, except plane flights back to visit family and business travel. Never stayed East of Mississippi more than a week, perfect time frame for family visits, .. .no longer!
Sooo...to clean dough off your hands, put some flour on them and rub them together. The flour will mix with the dough, and become less sticky so that you'll be able to get most of it off. That way, you don't need nearly as much water/time to get the mess off.
Love your videos! Glad you are doing good! I just am curious how you fund your travel and food, etc?... That little "rammbling speech" as you called it was very helpful and informative! Thanks.....Stay safe!....
Solid question! Kinda a bunch of random stuff. I was in Seattle the past year and saved some money, and I also work seasonal jobs in National Parks, and do gig work and such. Just whatever keeps me on the road 🥰
I forgot to like..dessert life, gem stone hunting will be cool for a few months, I've lived in Riverside CA before and explored Joshua tree a bunch..the San Bernardino Mntns are nice, great to ski..you know if you can ski the east,,,you can ski anything...cool style you got filming,,,real, like a camera just happened to be there 🤸
Man Washington is so beautiful. I lived in Federal Way from 5-11 years old. I’m 37 now and I haven’t been back ever since. But for sure gotta visit some day.
I actually have a decent mic and wind muff, it's just hard when it's super windy or lots of car noise. I'm slowly figuring out how to make it better! Thanks for the feedback 🥰
Oil or Flour Ur Hands 2 Stop Sticking. Play, Patty Cakes, Back & Forth Between Ur hands Until it Looks Like A Thick Pizza Crust, Place in Pan & Knead from the Middle 2 Sides. IF U Buy a Castiron Skillet Oven [Bottom Is A Large Pot & The Lid Is A Large Frying Pan] + A Cake Rack 2 Fit The Diameter Of The Pot Bottom. U Can Bake Anything. I Make, Cakes, Cookie, Cup Cakes, Pie, Flan, Etc All The Time... On My Coleman Stove. Also, IF U use a Sauce Whisk [Flat With Rounded Tanges] U won't scratch Ur frying Pan & They Whip Up Smooth & Flaky...
10:45 Here's what I don't get: if you're going to build a fire anyway, why do you cook on propane? Wouldn't life be simpler (and a bit less expensive) if you got a cast-iron and learned to cook with it over a fire? You'd always have the Coleman stove to fall back on.
I thought your car was larger than what it is. It looks large on the videos I saw a Honda element today and I thought to myself that car is small and I know that you’re not that tall in your tiny young lady so that’s why you can sleep in your Honda element for me it would not work. I know it was frustrating that the road was closed but please watch your language. It doesn’t sound good to be using that kind of language honey. You did good you’re a good cook. Be careful honey stay safe.

What a poignant memory...days long gone but not forgotten, with smells still lingering after so many years

highdesetforester--college girls...it could be worse.
Everything was so much better back then, thanks for sharing your experience.
I can't believe your not scared by yourself living in the car im glad you have a reliable car

I love watching your subscriber numbers go up. You go girl!
Incredible views. Always inspiring to see those things because I'm incredibly frustrated with my current life and want to be on the road soon.
I'm sorry to hear that.... I hope you get back on the road soon and life gets happier! ❤️
Inconceivable😮

The struggle at 4am is real 👍 I was enjoying looking at the beautiful mountain. Then it was like… 1 2 3…there’s ya freaking sunrise. 🤣🤣🤣 ❤
Amazing video, amazing content, thanks for sharing😊
You are amazing.Keep doing what you enjoy
I love your Steve Hoodie, I watch him too I was so sorry to hear about his wife, way too young to pass.....I liked that you gave a run down on how you got started in the car camping life, you were a brave you lady in the beginning now you're a pro...
Steve truly seems like one of the best humans. I couldn't stop crying watching his video about his wife. I hope he is doing okay ❤️

👏 Bravo on the bannock sandwich, i need to try that.
That fire lookout seemed to be in amazingly spiffy shape, almost like it's been set up as a museum exhibit.
Nice sunrise…🦋

One of my favorite videos!
you are a good cook all the food I've
seen looks good I get hungry watching
I've been eyeing this Element that's been parked in a driveway forever. Maybe one day there'll be a for sale sign and I'll get one out on the road too. They're surprisingly versatile
I hope so! Element's are meant to be driven not sit in driveways ❤️
That bread is soooo amazing! Thanks for a super wonderful video again!!
Thanks for being here 🥰
Watching your videos from last to first and I could listen to you all day talking about food and coffee🤭😂❤

Great video! It was nice to learn a bit about you.
I’m from PA and never noticed the whole PA thing, but now that you mentioned it, I understand why people are confused lol.
Great homemaker skills, will make a good wifey one day.
I never comment on videos, but I’m from upstate NY so my love for Wegmans runs deep (naturally) 😂 love a good Wegmans shoutout. We would be friends 😂❤

Hello, I just found your channel. Very good content. Great hot springs in that area.
Did you make a Q&A? What inspired you to go on this adventure? 😊
I haven't made a Q&A yet but when I do I'll definitely talk about that ❤️
Wegmans rocks! Great hoagies, sushi and pizza!❤
Such a beautiful video
Love your lookout videos!

Dust 🤣

Gem stone hunting is so much fun! Great idea! Thanks for being here 🥰
Very impressed with your fried bread breakfast sandwich making me hungry 🥰
I was born in Reading PA
Ahhh! I've spent some time there. I visited the pagoda!
I love it that you include a food portion to your content. Awesome how do battle with the loneliness of road travel?
Man Washington is so beautiful. I lived in Federal Way from 5-11 years old. I’m 37 now and I haven’t been back ever since. But for sure gotta visit some day.
It's such an incredible state! I hope you make it back here soon ❤️
@@lifeinmyelement yeah that’s the goal for next year.
love it Rosa. Stay Safe
Here’s hoping you’ll do a full tour of your Element some time. 🙂
That's a good idea! I'll do my best to film it soon!! Thanks 🥰
HELLO ROSA..IM UR FOLLOWER FROM D PHILIPPINES...KEEP IT UP....
I love your videos so much and you are really pretty. And thanks for not having some silly songs soundtrack in the background, just you talking!
Aww thank you! I'm trying to keep it as authentic to my life as possible. Appreciate you 🥰
I need dough, for some reason it never sticks to me for long. Also, nice sandwich.
Thank you for the inspiration🤎.
Thank you for watching ❤️
I have the same edition of Dune, in fact, its spine is just as broken as your copy's. You definitely read that more than once
15:09 I think that’s a anomaly (ghost) in the frame. 👻
Oh, try putring some sugar/cinnamin in a bowl or plate and drop the bread in right after you fry it... eat it warm with a little butter!
I always LOL at least once during every video😂
Anybody else see the orbs floating about whilst Rosa was brushing her hair? Dust doesn’t change direction or travel sideways.
Multiple
Looks like you are doing ok to me now.Hondas are magnets for catalytic converter thieves.I guess they are worth more money.Good job with the drone.
Yea, it's an issue! But thankfully I've got a shield on it now and haven't had any problems!
Love your Videos Rosa. Only thing I would suggest is to get a cheap microphone as sometimes it's hard to hear you on your videos.
Keep plugging away!!
I actually have a decent mic and wind muff, it's just hard when it's super windy or lots of car noise. I'm slowly figuring out how to make it better! Thanks for the feedback 🥰
Thanks to Ffg I found an awesome channel

This is a year later...very impressive!
I grew up in Northwest PA :)
Good morning ❤
Hi! 🥰
Not me having a conversation with a friend about when people look at us weird when we say PA and not Pennsylvania 😭😂
I'm from PA really wanting to get a RV and travel.
love the curtain and rod how did you make that?
Do you make enough off of UA-cam to support yourself on your travels or do you have to sometimes stop in work
Do you think now its got so many miles but is still running good that you should sell , and get another with less miles.
I AM GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT SAYS PA
A day late and a dollar short!

Wow how long did it take you to grow your hair that long?

Do you really have to giggle after EVERY sentence? Most of the time what you said isn't even funny 🙄
