    I enjoyed learning about your process - especially your reading through the instruction and walking us through how you interpreted the chenille pieces. Love the sparkle and color. What a pretty, posable, finish!

    Wow, those butterflies are gorgeous. You’re right, very confusing directions but the yellow/orange did turn out great.

      I hope you give it a try! I was surprised how tedious they can be, but with some patience, I find them to be very relaxing and felt is very forgiving, lol!

    Hi Christine, I also have the Butterfly Garden kit, but didn't start it yet. Working with chenille stems seems to be a bit tricky. But I saw a tutorial by Michelle Wood who simply puts the stems in place between 2 pieces of felt (they seem to stick a bit on the felt) and then she sews them together. No stitching marks on the outside. I think I will give that a try.
    Looking forward to see you making the Halloween ornaments. I haven't decided if I will buy them.

      Yes, I have watched Michelle's tutorial and have used her method for the body of the butterfly because it's thin and the felt just folds right around it. However, it didn't work the same way on the wings 🤔

      @@calico_whimsy I was going to try that, but if it doesn't work, I won't do it. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe stuffing is the best way. The result is always beautiful.

    I bent and curved a chenille stick all around the outer edges of each wing piece back crossing in the middle for more stability. Also used pearl beads because I don't like the way my French Knots look on felt. Tried their antennas, they were a hot mess so I used black jewelry wire instead. Using alligator clips so they will clip on to the tree branches.

    Those are beautiful! I did some Christmas ornament last year, using some cut files for my silhouette cameo as templates. I used wool felt so my cat stole them so now they are his toys ;)

      Our 3 month old kitten found a couple of pieces I must have dropped. They became instant toys and I am still missing one of the pieces.

    I'm still seeing butterflies all over the place, but I'm definitely ready for fall! The butterfly you completed looks great though! I started on the reindeer in the Winter Wonderland kit tonight and so far so good for being my first one ever. It's tricky appliqueing the tiny pieces while close to the edges. Looking forward to seeing how the Halloween ornaments go. I was so tempted to get that kit too, but I held back thinking I should work on the ones I have first. I believe I'll have to do this very same reindeer again for the stocking so it seems to be good practice.

      I have hardly seen any butterflies this summer for some reason ( could be that I had a super lame garden this year 😭).
      Ooo, I'm excited you got started on the reindeer and it's going well. Those little prices can be so tricky. I heard a tip to use the beading needle when stitching close to the edge since it makes a smaller hole 👍

    • @rebeccachapman1231
      @rebeccachapman1231 2 роки тому

      @@calico_whimsy That's a good tip to use the beading needle. I suppose it would be possible to just use the beading needle the whole time, though a trade off is that it is a longer needle and therefore more difficult to use more of the thread when getting close to the end of the strand. :) I can't remember if you talked about it or not in your earlier videos, but when I started stuffing the antlers of the reindeer and there were long, tiny parts to stuff, I found that the chenille stick was just too flimsy to really get into the small space, so since I do a lot of diamond painting too and have a bazillion of those metal, sharp-pointed tweezers, I tried using the ends of the tweezers to get the stuffing in there and it worked so well! A benefit is that if you accidentally use more stuffing, the tweezers are perfect for pulling some of it out (or all of it out to start over!)

    I've never done a felt kit but have done felt Christmas stockings for child and spouse. I used a combo of iron on appliques, pins and freehand sequins with beads for the names. I was wishing that both had shorter names. 😃
