The 116 degree heat DID NOT MELT the power cables. That is a LIE. The plastic sheathing on the power cables is rated at above 350 degrees. The only reason that one spot that is shown melted is because of a resistive connection fault that caused the WIRE to heat up and thus melt the plastic sheathing. What a load of NONSENSE this video contains!

It's all fake. The chloro-flourocarbons was a massive sting against the public. The real reason was a patent was expiring and China were going to manufacture it. It is IMPOSSIBLE for chloro-flourocarbons to get into the upper atmosphere unless actively released up there.

All those who claim Air Conditioning will cause billions of deaths have no problem blasting air conditioning to cool more rooms than all other Americans. They are the worse INDIVIDUAL violators of the very things they demand everyone else stop doing, and they refuse to stop doing it.
"You first" is the best way to expose any of this nonsense passed off as "science". They will never personally DO what they demand everyone else do.
"We need to distribute wealth" - from rich people who refuse to distribute their wealth and insist on remaining rich.
"We need to cut down on emissions" - from people who put out more individual emissions than everyone else, even having private jets
"We need to open our borders for all people of the world - walls don't work" - from people have have some form of walls around their own property
"We need to do away with guns" - from people who have hired armed guards.

It might save us, and may continue to for along time but that doesnt mean it doesn't burn power, mainly coal to provide. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. I think the point is to raise awareness on ways we can improve power or use cleaner sources like nuclear to help.
It's a circle, everything is. What goes up must come down. We're burning up all the earth's resources faster than it can replace them.

There was recently a court case in Finland that resulted in a verdict: if it's technically possible, condominiums must allow the installation of cooling heat pumps. (Due to central heating the heating option isn't necessary anyway.)
The units can be installed if the apartment/condo has a balcony, and the outer unit would be placed there so it can be maintained.
Condo owners must request permission for the installation, and there are already many that have been approved, already before the court case.

My sister in Florida informed me of a lawsuit by a woman who had installed complete self sustaining solar power system on her home in southern Florida. The state created a law making it illegal for homeowners to get off the grid! Florida has become one nutty state...

AC does not only uses coal. It uses whatever powers your grid.
The title is misleading. The problem isnt the ac unit. Problem is whatever is used to produce electricity.

It also helps to reduce energy use of appliances. AC use at least 4 times more energy then heat pumps. This can also be an incentive to upgrade for those who like to safe money.

I kept all trees around my house when I built it.
Using AC to just keep humidity levels low (being comfortable) last month's electric bill was $77.

A heat pump on hot days is nothing more than an AC. I don't see a solution here too, unless you use a waterloop in the ground to store the nights cold and use it at day instead of the hot air (Dual-Source Heat Pump)

That's what we call a heat pump. AC simply pumps the heat outside, while reversing it pumps the heat inside. Interestingly it doesn't cost that much to reverse an air conditioner, and yet they charge so much to add a "heat pump".
Anyway all AC's do is to move heat from one place to another. Same with your refrigerator, it moves the heat from inside the refrigerator to outside of it, so all that heat is pushed into your house. Although it isn't exactly a lot of space.

Heat pumps are nothing new. They are nearly everywhere in Japan and other countries in the region. These are a necessity because power costs more there.

@@uioplkhj If running a standard A/C plant, its the same, loss of A/C. If you have natural gas as an energy source, you would lose heating when the electric pumps stop circulating heated water that supply base board or old radiator systems due to loss of power.

@@dougeing6521 That's news to me. I had one for 3 years in Japan and it worked very well. They do lose their efficiency advantage when temperatures drop below 32 F. So they are not optimal in extremely cold weather, but in southern states, they would work well as they share a similar climate with Japan.
This is great ideas but we all know people don’t like to spend the money. Newer company’s can benefit from this however existing ac owners is not about to pay to change they whole systems.
Unless if and when their AC breaks and there’s law to input these new clean energy heat pumps replacing the older models…or if the demand goes up just enough to the point the of the existing manufacturers will also adopt this tech

If we're going to rely solely on electricity for absolutely everything from transportation to HVAC, it's going to take a miracle to come up with a clean and reliable system to satisfy that increased demand. I'm all for wind and solar but I can't imagine that will be nearly enough

@@1mlb704 Yeah. Just build more. The entire planet's electricity use can be generated with just solar panels covering the state of New Mexico. Thats alot of land, but divide it across the world, on rooftops or in solar farms, plus nuclear, hydro-electric dams, and wind farms (on land and in the ocean). Its actually not that much land.
Heat pumps (basically AC running in reverse) are actually so efficient that its actually more efficient to burn natural gas in a power plant and send the power hundreds or thousands of miles to your house to run a heat pump, than it is to burn the natural gas in your home for warmth.
Future increases in AC and heating will also be slightly offset by better modern insulation. Retrofitting old buildings with better insulation will be important.
Solar is most efficient on a home or buildings roof or glass panels. Solar farms are highly inefficient on a energy created for space used basis

The HVAC industry itself is always evolving and getting better and more efficient. Whether that be with units themselves or controls working to maximize efficiently and comfortability.
Videos like this fail to recognize tyat without serious dedication to new generation capacity our grid will become overwhelmed as we electrify
We in NL have a different problem. New solar installations or heat pumps won't be connected to the grid in certain big cities (like Amsterdam) and rural areas (farmers with 500 panels on the roof). Why, because of a lack of transportation capacity. They can't transport the generated energy to users.
The grid management companies (semi-goverment) are whining on the news every week now that they need to invest in extra capacity. They want money from the government.
There's also a stupid law that forbids investing in capacity that's not needed within 2-3 years. At the same time the government wants to be fully electric in 10 to 30 years. Both cars and houses. That means 3 or 4 times the current grid capacity.
Basically every house owner has to spend between 20k and 50k up front for more insulation and replacing most of the heating system from gas to heat pumps. Gas is already forbidden in new construction. They want to shut down some gas lines as early as 2030. New ICE vehicles will also be forbidden to be sold by 2030 and completely illegal by 2050.
My dad curses them almost weekly for this (daily for covid decisions) and says they won't force him. The insanity is that Germany subsidizes people going from coal to gas.
Yea and all the morons rush out to buy electric cars, lawnmowers, etc not considering it will overwhelm the grid in matter of 2-4 more years. Hell there’s already rolling blackouts in Californian.

Currently going full electric for everyone is impossible. We need better economics of scale and technology. It's going to take a lot longer then the current government wants. I'd say at least 50 years unless fusion reactors become feasible.
wait till they want all electric planes one engine on a Dash 8 Q400 can put out 3700kWs. put simply a Q400 running for 2 hours could produce enough power for the average home for over a year or enough for one day of power for 422 homes thats a butt load of power and the Q400 is small compared to something like a 747 or a380 or any of the other new wide body aircraft that has come out.

What happens when the electric grid fails and its minus 20 outside. Your pipes freeze and flood. The electric grid is not reliable compared to natural gas pipes. Never had gas shut off in the winter. This video assumes the electric grid is 100% reliable which it is not. What about a wind storm which knocks the power off in the winter. Gas pipes still run as they underground - pretty much 100% reliable whereas electricity is not
Can you not put wires underground???, plus in Texas last winter a big issue was the lack if winterized seals in the natural gas system that destroyed electrical capacity

i use clothes lines to dry laundry ( outdoor, indoor, hot, cold, summer, winter, day night ), i want to do rain water harvesting, i am harvesting shower water and hand washing water, just put a 5 gallon bucket in the tub under the faucet, flush the toilet with that water, that is a lot of water saved. And electricity.

Here at 45 degree latitude the "sky cool" panels are more efficient if on the northern side of the roof. years ago I was looking at some panels that could cool at the rate of 5 watts per square meter to near freezing. Effectiveness of heat pumps go down as outside temperature starts dropping, as they operate by exchanging heat with atmosphere. This article sounds like marketing for heat pumps without full disclosure of it's effectiveness.
if where you live it really cold in the winter...then you just need a bigger-better heat pump, that's all.

typically you need 3 times the heating capacity as cooling capacity. so a 2 ton unit is 24000 btu but a house that size needs about 60,000 btu in the northeast . it's because to cool you might need 20 degree drop from outside but to heat you may need a 60 degree increase from outside. so i can see heat pumps in the south and in warm areas not so much in the north.

In switzerland, it's been several years already that it is illegal to use air conditioning in any new commercial/office building. They all use passive cooling. And yes, summers do get hot in switzerland, it's not all mountains and snow...

Once a week i turn the ac on and leave the window open to help cool the outside.
My HOA refuses to allow me to put on a lighter color shingle or to whitewash the dark red brick. I have added some stealth features such as triple insulating my windows and storm door. Nothing will change until people make it a priority.

What most people don't realize is that when you "heat a building" 1btu=1btu, when you use "refrigeration (A/C)" it is -1btu=2/3btu (so you create 3btu's of heat for every 1btu of heat removed from the building). It works the same in vehicles and everything else using refrigeration.
This is true for every type of refrigeration, from your vehicle, to your fridge/freezer and to the commercial units used to cool fruits/vegetables/frozen goods in the supermarket, to the massive units used to freeze the covid vaccines.
And it doesn't matter what you use to generate the power to remove the btu's, the generation and use of electricity generates heat in the same manner. And often at the same rate.
This climate change/global warming conversation is tiresome. I remember being told the world was goin to ice over when I get older...well 30 yrs later and welp🤷♂️

This is why you want solar panel. I got my central air system few years ago then right after that I got my solar panels since I knew without solar panels I would have paid thru the nose for electricity.

I actually honestly never use an air conditioner and I'm in my 30's. I always just use a fan and I never sweat at all when I have a single fan on me. Whatsoever. It gets in the 90's here. I sweat a lot when I'm outside but not at all inside. My electric bill is $40 in the summer. I'm single. My electric bill is $65 in the winter. I keep my heat at 60° Because I always thought when the January high is 60 it felt warm so that's what I always set my heat too. I've never had a TV any bigger than a medium sized tv because that's the biggest tv I ever wanted. I don't have a whole lot. I think we all need to work on energy conservation. That's the key.

Heat pumps lose a lot of efficiency once temperature drops below 40F (4C). Most places easily get this cold during the year. Also as a Texan who lost power for a week this year when temps hit 4F (-16C) I am extremely thankful for my natural gas that kept flowing. Having redundant energy sources is extremely important especially with this extreme weather we are getting due to climate change.

Finally someone speaking about it. It's been years since I have been concerned and been pointing to this issue. Specially during the lockdowns, when most of the offices were closed and vehicles use was banned (a sharp decline in heavy AC use as compared to personal use at home) the overall temperature came down a lot, even in the hottest summer months of May/ June in India. To a point that most of us didn't need ACs during peak summers. It is a serious issue.
Also, it makes us used to or conditioned to being in more colder temp, hence making us feel hotter even in the slightest of increasing/ warm temperature.
All this new "high efficiency" equipment they are talking about costs an order of magnitude more than conventional "inefficient" air conditioning - as they mentioned several times.
...but what they DIDN'T mention was the cost of upkeep, repair, and downtime.
Any energy savings you get with high end equipment goes RIGHT back out the door as soon as it has a malfunction.
EXPENSIVE boards, sensors, drives, and motor assemblies that can take WEEKS to order and replace - again, not even mentioning the additional hours of labor costs for troubleshooting and being on hold with technical support.
Conventional units can usually be repaired SAME DAY with parts on a technician's truck or local supplier.
I do HVAC and have a conventional split system in my house for EXACTLY that reason.
A very important facet is overlooked - air filtration. You can have the most efficient air conditioning machinery but if you replace your air filter with one that has very high resistance, you may end up using even more electricity.
as PE in the HVAC world would LOVE to have an intelligent conversation with the CNBC of how a HP is not the end all and be all that they are offering up. Crazy idea and let the engineers actually comment on this as opposed to the fear mongering......SMH
I was a green person, I dont use AC at all for the past few years, but nowadays the world has changed, sometimes the temperature is so high that I honestly think I might die if I dont use my AC, Im sorry, but I have to use it, just try my best to use it only when I cant take it anymore.

As an Asian myself where all of Asia use Celsius I agree. Even some Americans envy the world for USA not using the metric system than the usual imperial units, even if they are introduced from the UK.

Solarpanels pair well with air conditioners because they both scale with sunlight, the more sun the hotter the more AC use but you also get more energy from the panels, not to mention they are green. But the best part is that your AC will still have power when the entire city blackouts from too many AC being on at the same time.
But doesn't it still harm the planet by pumping out heat?

A/C doesn’t make heat. It just moves it from one place to another.
It does move heat energy from one element to another, but uses electric & mechanical (motor) energy in the process, and that is the one that creates new heat.
But it has to do work to move that heat. It’s like moving coal to your basement - nothing comes for free and nothing is 100% efficient.
The phrase "warming the world" here refers to the greenhouse emissions from the electricity usage and refrigerant leakage.
I do repairs in hundred of rentals and landlords won’t replace anything that can be patched together because it cost them ROI. I was surprised on a triplex they wanted a dripping hot water faucet fixed ASAP. When I asked the landlord I found out the gas bill is included in the rent and each drip was costing him money. How is that you ask? There is one 40 gallon water heater for all three apartments. Unless you can Incentivize landlords to do upgrades the most inefficient units will remain in use. Before you judge too harshly, ask yourself, if your boss came in and ask you to take a pay cut so he could do upgrades would you be OK with that? I work for myself and if I encounter extra expenses I don’t absorb them I pass them on to the customer.
