The only thing I hate is about this subplot (His death), the story puts a lot of emphasis on Kratos dying and really hone in on it only for it not to happen. (I KNOW its because they want to showcase that Kratos make his own fate and denies prophecy) but the least that couldve happened was that there was more urgency or more tension, like why not have kratos be beat by Thor or show that he's willing to sacrificing himself for his son, but no, nothing happens, Kratos was never in any real danger. I know there's so much more to it than that (lIke the mural of the body Atreus was holding was Odin this entire time) so it just ends up feeling like they were building up to a point that doesnt end up happening after all and to me, it does lose some points for it.
I kinda agree that they sort of teased and emphasized a bit of Kratos's death at the end of God of War 2018 and they probably could have executed it a bit better. But at the same time, I think it also plays into the theme of choosing your own fate. This theme was pretty prevelant in the second half of the story, and even if Odin's death came true, the Norns were basically proclaiming Kratos's death and he defied this fate in the end.
As fans of the old, how many times did we want Kratos to absolutely go ham on all the Norse Gods like Heimdall, Thor & Odin hahaha. As much as I like the arc Kratos goes through, imagine a 'what-if' scenario where Kratos absolutely destroys the pantheon.
