Worked for me! One of my 20v MAX batteries was reading 6.7v on a meter. Charger wouldn't even recognize that it was there. Drills and impact would flash the little white LED when pulling the triggers, but that was it. Gave it a jump start from my good battery, using your method, and now the charger is charging it. I've never run the batteries down this low from use in the three years that I've had them. Only explanation I can think of is that the tools go into a soft carry bag--one of the triggers must have became depressed against one of the other tools, and drew it down too far. I now take the batteries off of the tools before putting them into the bag. Thanks for posting this!

Just did this with a battery I bought with drill on clearance. Display model. I put it on charger and didn't even blink. I "jumped" it with a good battery for 10 seconds. Put it on the charger and bam! It works! Was just using that batter in the drill last night.
Thanks for the tip! Thumbs up to you!

This is awesome. I had a 9ah and a 5ah battery which were relatively new and not charging. Was dreading the hassle of returning to Dewalt for repair. This fixed it perfectly. You deserve an award for this video. You’ve saved me a whole lot of hassle, inconvenience and money. Thank you very much sir.

There are a few ideas for fixing a car battery
never try to do this until you know what you are doing - the acid can burn your skin
Test the voltage first - there may be a kaput cell which will waste your time.
      Check your battery fluid.
Try to fully charge the battery.
(I read about these and more from Rapid Renew Roadmap website )

My 1.5aH 20V battery wouldn't even light up on the charger. I tried this and after the first time, got it to blink once on the charger, but then it went dark again. So I tried this again and left the wires hooked longer. And it worked! Bless you, sir.

This trick resurrected by flexvolt battery. I am reading 2.26V only in between B+ and B-. Use a fully charged 20V 1.5Ah only to pump up my flexvolt battery to 11 V, after that my charger was able recognized it and begun charging it. Thanks for sharing this trick, you’re a Genius!

I can't believe this was my problem with a brand new battery.
I've had DeWalt batteries and tools for over a decade now, NEVER ONCE have I pushed it down to where it clicks like that and they've been charging all this time just fine. Get the new one and it wouldn't charge. Now it does.
    Crazy....thanks.

This is the quickest fix I did today. Thanks for showing this. I had a 20V 5AH battery that just stopped charging. Battery is dead when tested and charger does not blink. Roughly I would say, the battery is just about 1year or so old. I know my charger is working since my other batteries are getting charged. Anyway, I did what is shown here. You will see a small spark when you connect the negative, B-. I repeated it twice just for curiosity and I did not see the same spark. Plugged it into the charger and it worked! Thank you very much.

Got my new DEWALT DCD996P2 20V MAX XR Lithium Ion Brushless 3-Speed Hammer Drill Kit today from Amazon. One of the batteries had only one of the three charged lights illuminated, but when I plugged it into the charger the charger light stayed solid on (thought the battery was fully charged). I tried the magic trick in this video and now I get the flashing light that it is indeed charging! DeWalt should add a link to your video...thanks!

I had a 40v DCB404 battery pack that did the same thing. Press the button on the pack and there was no light at all. Not much use on this 1 of my 2 battery packs using with my blower and hedge trimmer, but it failed with the fast flashing red light when put on the charger. Cost for a new one was $180!!! I went ahead and gave this a try. Got one heck of a spark when I attached the final negative wire to the "dead" battery, but the unchargeable one is now charging like a dream. I will have to see if it still works OK and holds a charge like before. Thanks Richcan!!

This fixed my all of a sudden dead, DeWalt 18V battery. Mine had no charge test lights and when connected to the charger the red light came on briefly and then was permanently off!

Expect a little spark when connecting as described. But only briefly connecting..
    Thanks so much👍

Great tip! However, if this is happening, it's due to the voltage of one of the cells dropping just below 3.7V indicating that it's starting to fail. This trick will keep you going for a while but it will eventually need replacing. That is when the one (or two) cells drops to near 0V and the charger won't pass a charge current through the pack.

I don't think I would leave the wires connected for very long.

I have had my Dewalt for not very long, so one of the batteries sat for a long time not being used. I tried to use it the other day putting up hurricane stuff and it was dead of course and the light would not even come on for charging. Was going to buy another one,BUT i found your video so I said what the heck let me give it a try,,,,Hell it worked perfect, so, THANKS a lot for sharing that with me. Hope other people find your video, i see it has not been posted long. YOU saved me 40 or 50 bucks, thanks. I did hook it up to my 12 volt battery charger thou, same thing, if something happened i did not want to hurt my other battery just to let you know........

my battery did not even blink when I put in the charger, I had to hold the wires for about 15 seconds, and then my battery recharged, thank you.
