Cracker Barrel originated in Lebanon, Tennessee. Just east of Nashville. They serve mostly traditional old time southern food. It’s a nice, family restaurant and country store that’s always clean and food is tasty. Big rocking chairs on the front porch are often filled with people just relaxing after dinner before getting on the road again.
I worked here in college as a waitress. It’s one of few chain restaurants in the US who treats their employees very well, offer advancement, employee stock and decent health insurance.

    Hi from Los Angeles 🙋‍♀️
Cornbread can be sweet or savoury. If it's sweet, you'll eat it warm, with honey-butter, or plain butter. If it's savoury, you'll usually find it contains minced bell pepper, sometimes, cheddar cheese, bacon, or sausage crumbles, sometimes minced onion.

Okra was brought over from Africa by the African slaves - because it was an important ingredient in much of their dishes from home. It's main component is a slimy liquid in it's center that, when boiled and pounded creates an excellent starch like thickener to any soup or stew. Plus the vegetable itself (like a small zucchini) is delicious. It is used mostly in the south, where slavery was most prevalent.

There are 662 Cracker Barrel stores in the US. It serves Southern food. All restaurants have a country store at the entrance. They sell from old-styled rocking chairs to candy, sodas and beers that were popular in the 1940/50s, as well as home furnishings to decorate homes country styled. The food is excellent and is cooked at each restaurant. It is the kind of food that people still cook at home in the South.😂

The rocking chairs that sit outside the restaurant are for sale. Cracker Barrel is just homestyle American food. Some candy that is old style and drinks too. Some cornbread is sweet but not excessively so. Others are just savory. Cracker Barrel is in all but 5 states: Hawaii, Alaska, Washington,Vermont and Wyoming. There are 687 Cracker Barrels in the USA. It is a "comfort food" place to eat. Everything is seasoned a plenty and is delicious. They have a huge fireplace that is a wood burning one and in the Winter gives off so much heat and makes for such a "warm" atmosphere. Each table has an oil burning lamp which they light towards the evening and it too adds a "warmth" to the atmosphere. The store sells a variety of things: clothes, cards, toys, home decor, candy, mugs and cups, quilts and many other things. My husband and I love going here!!

Okra is an African fruit that resembles a green pepper, but it's not a pepper, and it's not sweet. It was originally brought to the States with African slaves centuries ago. In the American South, it's usually sliced and fried. Many people enjoy it cooked different ways, but I think the most popular method is frying it and having it with ketchup.
The cultures of the African slaves heavily influenced southern cuisine in America, especially American barbecue.

The country store is always fun to browse, and when you eat there the tables often have different games you can play (old-fashioned games, not electronic games), and they have a great menu. if it's breakfast, I prefer biscuits, but lunch or dinner, it's cornbread.... unless it's a specific type of food that goes better with biscuits. also, you can cut the cornbread in half (horizontally) like a biscuit and slather butter on the inside, the put it back together and let the butter melt into the cornbread (and some on top as well for more taste). once it melts, it's even more delicious. you can use butter or jam with the biscuit, but no jam on cornbread.
also, some type of bread is usually served at restaurants before the salad (or main if no salad) so that you can eat something while you wait for your food to be cooked... at home, it's served WITH the dinner/lunch, not before.

Cracker Barrel is a chain restaurant/store that started in Lebanon, TN (my parents live there!) but has locations in several states. Cornbread can be salty or sweet depending on who makes it. Cracker Barrel has savory corn bread, but a lot of people make it with sugar. I personally only like it if it's sweet. When I go to Cracker Barrel, I prefer the biscuits with blackberry preserves. They bring it out as a starter, but I usually save it for dessert. They also have decent sawmill gravy and biscuits (but there are other places that do it better). Their Coca-Cola cake is the best thing on the menu. He got my favorite dinner entree, the country fried steak (which is meant to be absolutely drenched in gravy so he definitely did not put too much! That whole bowl of gravy is meant to go on the steak.), but they also serve breakfast all day and their breakfast is really great. They also have some of the best dinner salads...can you tell I love this place?! ;) Also, I love that you would dip the okra in the gravy, because I definitely do that too. :D

Their biscuits are decent but nothing beats North Carolina biscuits, more crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and more buttery and salty. Bojangles or Biscuitville will do if you can't find a Granny! Bigger biscuits as sandwiches are a really common breakfast on the go food, my favorite is a chicken biscuit. Other popular ones are sausage, ham, or pork chop. And of course a lot of people love egg and cheese with their meat but not me. A Bojangles cajun filet biscuit with honey mustard and hot sauce is my absolute favorite breakfast! I like Bojangles beans, fries, and hash browns too. If I wanted a sweet treat I would get the blueberry biscuit, it's heavenly.

I believe the first Cracker Barrel(s) were in Tennessee. Frankly, I loved them. My mom was originally from the south, and I grew up eating a lot of Cracker Barrell style cooking.
I love cornbread, altho theirs is more cake-y than I prefer, it's still pretty good. Kinda nice to see one (there are none near me now, in the Pacifific northwest)

My wife and I have traveled all over the United States (45 states and counting), and one of our fun things to do is anytime we see a sign for Cracker Barrel or see a Cracker Barrel restaurant we point at it and look at each other and say "Cracker Barrel!" Cracker Barrel is our "go to" when we're on the road as the food, the service, the atmosphere, the country store, is just magnificent and fun. Oh my goodness, even now I'm thinking about a plate of country ham, mac 'n cheese and green beans...and it just makes me salivate. I'm living at my 35th address in places all over the world, including 15 of the states in the United States and 4 foreign countries (unfortunately not one of which is Portugal, yet), but I've lived almost 25 of my years in the Great State of Texas. Texas is special, in many, many ways--but not for Cracker Barrel as they are all over the US (hallelujah), and now not even for Whataburger, HEB, and Buc-ees, all of which originated in Texas but are now spreading throughout the US. I could go on and on, but take it from me, there's no other experience like being in Texas.

Yes, in the country (south) many restaurants serve choice of biscuits or cornbread or they bring a small basket of both. Cornbread is definitely my favorite but prefer baked without sugar. Mexican style cornbread (honestly probably has never been eaten in Mexico lol) is 100% my favorite

Cracker Barrels are usually located near exits off interstate highways, so they are great for people traveling who don't have time to look around for a place to eat that may or may not be good. Cracker Barrel is consistently good food at moderate prices. There are two within 30 minutes of my house in North Carolina. You can get biscuits and gravy there. I like them plain. I prefer biscuits to corn bread, but both are brought to the table unless you ask for one over the other.

He didn't put too much gravy on the steak. You can't put too much gravy on chicken fried steak! I agree with the others who said that he should have had the mashed potatoes with it. A lot of places and families serve their mashed potatoes with lumps. They might have fainted if they were served mashed potatoes that still had the peel on them, lol. Many leave the peels on. Basically, we have different styles of mashed potatoes just like there are different styles of pizza, BBQ, chili, clam chowder and cornbread!

Cracker Barrel is legit solid for a chain, the have big potions and prices that are more than fair esp compared to other chains. A local mom and pop can be better, but it rare to have bad food or service at one.

At the Cracker Barrel restaurant near my house, these meals are just under $14 each which includes the sides (veggies) and biscuits/cornbread. The drinks would be a separate price. Coke or tea is $3.29 with free refills. Based on this, the entire meal would be $50-55 including tax and tip.

I watched this and had my husband pick up takeout from our cracker barrel here in southwestern Virginia. I got chicken tenders with a spicy honey sauce, not actually spicy but really tasty! My favorite sides are the hash brown casserole and the fried apples. They're not deep, fried just sliced apples sauteed in butter and cinnamon. It's not as good as Granny's but it's consistently good. And quite cheap. We got a free appetizer for ordering online. We got fried pickles for the appetizer, then 2 meals, and an order of oeach cobbler to share for dessert. I tipped the kitchen $4 and after that and tax it was $45. In this area that's pretty average for a meal out or takeout from a sit down restaurant. Where we just moved from, an average meal out was around $100, so to us it feels very affordable and I had half my food leftover for lunch the next day.

There are different types of corn bread that people make. There is sweet, salty, jalepeno, spoon bread, cheesy, etc. Cracker Barrels are restaurants with a country store in the front as you walk in. There are many as they are a chain restaurant. They are good. It's home cooked style southern food. There is even one here in Minnesota. 🙂

Cracker Barrel is pretty famous in the US. Not in all regions though. It is pretty good for a restaurant chain. Biscuits & cornbread would be more a Southern thing. I prefer cornbread. Chicken fried steak has no chicken. It is steak fried 'chicken style'. When you get a trip plan together, you will get lots of suggestions. You will see.

I live in Massachusetts and i have to tell u Cracker Barrel is in Massachusetts. It's not just a Texas restaurant. It's throughout the country, just so you know that you don't have to go to texas to have this restaurant gone to a Cracker Barrel and I like the food. It was pretty good, but I love the store more. Oh my gosh. I loved everything in the store. I wanted all of it. I actually probably spent like $70 in the store on like Christmas ordermin. Cute little signs for my house, so to me, even if you don't like the boo. Go there for the store. It's so quaint and beautiful and awesome little things in there. I could have been in there all day. And then you get like hungry, and you go have some grits. And that's actually where I found out I like grits, grits and cheese. Yep. It's all for me now, so I recommend it. If I only for the store and the grits

Cornbread can be sweet or savory. It kind of depends on what part of the country you're in. I grew up in southern Kentucky, near the Tennessee border. The way my family makes it has always as a savory side dish. I don't like mine sweet at all.
Cracker Barrel restaurants are all over. There is a Cracker Barrel in my hometown, out by Interstate 65. I might try to eat there next time I'm in town, but I can usually find good home cooking there without going to a chain restaurant.
