Costco is hugely successful. They sell products with minimal markup, and make their profit mostly by their annual memberships. The steaks at Costco are better than what we can buy at any of the grocery store chains near us.

8:50 - Read the bottom line. It's $3.99 per pound. 12:00 - Answer: Americans don't use bidets, though we can add attachments that do the same thing. By the way, wholesale stores operate by using bulk pricing. It doesn't mean we eat more during the same amount of time. Added info: Costco is known for its employee stock investment plans to encourage people's investment (pun intended) in the company.

The biggest reason for Costco success is the QUALITY. Nothing is accepted as Costco product meat, produce, salmon without extensive testing. Producers fight for years to get their products sold in Costco and products from balsamic vinegar, Parmesan cheese are authentic and verified. Costco is able to sell the best at a better price. Yeah, I pretty much only buy Parmiggiano Reggiano and/or pecorino Romano cheese from CostCo. Sorry but in northern CA we too have lots of local artisanal dairies and cheese-makers and they turn out a good product, but when you are talking about a European DOP product like Parmiggiano, the real imported thing is the best. When it comes to blue-veined cheeses, there are all kinds like American Bleu, English Stilton, French Roquefort and Italian Gorgonzola and they all taste different (and CostCo has most, if not all of them). Only the American "Blue" is authentically produced in America and ersatz European cheeses don't taste the same.

One thing I haven’t seen in the video yet is the samples. There are often vendors giving away free samples of food items - and you can arrive at Costco hungry, but leave with a full belly!

I'm in awe of how freely they are walking around that Costco without having to maneuver their shopping cart around hundreds of people. No matter the time of day or the Costco I visit I have to search for an available parking space, wait for an available cart, then stand in line to show my membership card to enter, walk slowly down the crowded aisles to get to the products I'm wanting to purchase. I always pick up a rotisserie chicken but I have to stand at the warmer along with dozens of other people waiting for them to come out of the oven to try to grab one before they're all gone again which means I'd have to wait for the next round to cook. When I'm finally done shopping I have to stand in one of many long lines to check out then another line to get my items checked at the door. It's very hectic and exhausting. The quality of their meats and other Kirkland products are the best and the reason I go through all that over and over again. I think Kirkland products are better than many national brands. They guarantee it or your money back. I love the convenience and the taste of their freshly prepared meals that you just bake. Costco isn't the only warehouse store in America but in my opinion it's the best!

  • @accident12123
    @accident12123 28 днів тому +9

The toilet paper shortage was a few reasons. First is America is used to being prepared for weather events so the second someone said toilet paper was running out people purchased double. Combine that with everyone home and 80% of paper products are brands only sold to companies and there wasn't enough stock available to get to shelves. It took a few months to shift manufacturing and delivery to shift.
But if you were a savvy purchaser that knew ethnic markets has a more community based customer that onlygot what they needed or went to camping stores they had plenty.

Costco cheese pizza is amazing. It has a thick crust of very flavorful cheese. The single slices are actually the size of 2 slices of the whole pizza. The size of the slice combined with the huge amount of cheese is why it has so many calories.

Andre, the thing all you foreigners need to keep in mind about the large volume sizes of our products, and that's simply this...our houses/apartments are larger, and therefore we have more storage space for all these large volumes items you see in these stores. It's really that simple. Our Fridges are about 3-4 times the size of the typical European versions, we probably have twice the kitchen cupboard space y'all have, and a lot of houses have separate pantries where you can store extra food, cleaning supplies, etc for quick access when you need it. We built a double pantry in our home after my mom passed in 2014. We basically expanded one storage closet into two. Before that, we'd store extra food in our utility closet, but it didn't hold all that much. It's kinda odd too because my Dad built that entire room onto the house before I was even born in like 1972. Why he didn't think to make the small single closet into the double pantry I have now is a bit of a mystery. But anyway...my dad passed away last month as of tomorrow and we have got a lot of work to do around the house both inside and out to get this property looking like it should. We've let a lot of things go over the last 10 years since mom died and since dad got down in his health over the Covid period.

Costco is a great company to work for. Their store brand Kirkland is the brand name product, but it must be better by some metric, like the pain relievets work faster, etc. The meat is choice , some is prime. Most grocery stores sell less than choice grade. Chef Julia Child was a Costco convert once she discovered the quality. You can also get large cuts for less.
The giant rotisserie chicken and hot dogs are loss leaders to get people in the doors. The CEO just assured members that the hotdogs were staying at that price. He even opened their own weiner factory to cut cost and keep the dogs the same.
Sam's Club is owned by the billionaire Walton family who own Walmart. After what they did to the American workforce and killed all the small businesses, I will never give the Waltons a penny. Costco is the ideal American business. I vote with my feet and dollars.
Also, yes, it's a great walking workout! Makes you hungry.😊

You can shop at costco without a membership if you buy a gift card. So thats a good way to get around the limitation. Costco has its own brand, its called Kirkland. Its pretty high quality, and usually made by name brand companies who put Kirkland on its logo. Costco has so much buying power that the big brands will actually change their recipes sometimes, for better quality. Oreo for example, makes oreos with sugar and real vanilla for costco vs corn syrup and artificial vanilla for regular grocery stores. The reason the pizza slices are so caloric intense is that the pieces are MASSIVE, and the cheese pizza has twice as much cheese as the pepperoni. Its actually closer to 3 pieces of normal pizza.

One of the reasons they check your cart as you exit is to make sure you were not over charged or double charged for something. Because Costco is a bulk buy store, the carts are much bigger than a normal store and people regularly fill them up. More than once The exit clerk has caught that an item I had was rang up twice, or something was on a buy one /get one special and the computer didn't catch it. That is why the customer service desk is right next to the exit, so they can do corrections quickly if needed.

Yes, Costco is amazing. The food portions are huge. It's great for families with kids. Our kids are grown and out of the house so my wife and I have to be careful what we buy. Often we can't eat all the food before it expires. One food thing I love about Costco is the free food samples. They give portions away to get you to buy certain foods. This is true, especially on Saturday when Costco is busiest. The primary reason I have a Costco membership is the cheap gasoline. It's the cheapest in town. The gas savings pays for your membership in a year. I also buy my TVs at Costco. They have good prices and a good selection of sizes and brands. They also offer lower-cost extended warranties. The Costco closest to us is ALWAYS crowded. Parking is a zoo even though they have huge parking lots. It's busy every day of the week and at all hours of operation. They need to build a new one in the area. If you come to America you need to visit Costco. Just ask and somebody will take you. Costco is capitalism at its best. Murica!

He pays his employees twice as much as most stores, way over the minimum wages - like $16-27/hour for the folks you see (min wage is $7.25). Walmart pays people so low they qualify for food stamps. The Walton family is worth $265 billion.

the three stores used to be walmart, target, and kmart... kmart went bankrupt. Costco and Sam's are considered 'wholesale' stores... so they're different...
second, you CAN go to costco without a membership and get a 1-day membership pass... this is to intice you to buy a membership (they last for a year). you can also go as a guest with a member (who goes with you) or you can get a costco check (money order type thing that you can only spend at costco) and not need a membership to use it in the store.... Sam's is very similar...

I keep point is that Costco is a volume (semi-wholesaler) seller for the most part and lives between retail and wholesale and prices. Walmart is strictly retail but has a Costco equivalent called Sam’s. There are several of these kinds of stores around the country all requiring membership to shop there. One wish is to visit for a day and shop to get an idea if they want to buy a membership that is allowed. Ostensibly Costco was created for small businesses and restaurants to purchase goods more cheaply. The warehouse look enables storage concurrent with goods that are available for purchase. Anything higher than two shelf levels is for storage only but can be bought with aid from a store person. Prices are good but not as good as they used to be because they have become a regular part of every day life where in most cities over 100,000 people there’s at least one Costco. At least this is typical for cities with a population that has money or a large group of wealthy upper middle-class and better shoppers.

Or find someone who's a member to bring you in as a guest like they did...

Walmart and Target are not the same as Costco. They are large department/grocery stores. Costco is a wholesale store - big-box warehouse store. Sam's Club is the Walmart equivalent of Costco as is BJ Wholesale. You do have to have a membership to shop at each. It's an annual fee of either a regular or premium membership. Like Costco, Sam's Club also has gas stations and he's correct that it is generally the cheapest gas in town.
Shopping at one of these has less to do with having a large family than it is to getting more for the money spent. You can stock up by paying a little more in the moment. That means fewer trips to the store which saves you on gas so it can be a decent overall savings especially when gas prices are constantly fluctuating. They also benefits to being a member...cash back, points towards additional discounts and sometimes better sale prices on the same item in a different store.
Buying in bulk for grocery items that you use regularly is a great savings.

Costco started as a place for small businesses to purchase food and supplies. They only gave memberships to businesses. But people started getting friends memberships to get in so they realized they should just sell the membership to anyone. I believe they will let you pay for a one day membership or you can go with someone else. Only the first two shelves at Costco have things for sale. Everything else is storage of things that are packed away in pallets to be sold later. Costco is usually cheaper, but you always have to think about each item as some things are the same price just in larger quantities.

I was there two days ago. It had been about a year since I‘d last been. Great for families because they sell in volume at lower prices. That‘s also a negative if you live in an apt or tiny home because you have no room to store 50 rolls of toilet paper. Meat prices are amazing, beef roast was $5.99 a lb. , which is $2.00 a lb less than regular markets. Again, they sell in volume so you may be buying a multi-pack and have to have freezer to store your extras. I find the eye Services to be outstanding. The eye exam is $80 which I think includes glaucoma test, vision test, and exam for retinal health. The Optical store has a wide variety of fashionable frames at competitive costs. Using the optical services at Costco always saves me at least $100 - which basically pays for my membership . I haven‘t used their pharmacy services other than for an occasional flu vaccination so I don‘t have enough knowledge to speaking that. I love their prices for fresh flowers - when I feel like treating myself it‘s there that I purchase them. The regular membership is worth it, it allows two family members access - my son who lives in another state uses my membership at his Costco.

Kids at school, parents at work. So you don't use much toilet paper if you're only home to sleep at night. But during lock downs we were suddenly all at home all day long. If you are two adults and have a couple of kids or teens... And all of you are home all day long, you go through way more toilet paper.

It's a 100.00 a year for a Costco membership and you need it to buy gas also. It is worth it. Walmart has their own version of Costco called Sam's Club. We have memberships to both because they each carry some different stuff we like. The stuff on upper shelves is extra of what's on the floor. I was in Costco, Sam's Club, and Walmart yesterday. Costco pizza is actually pretty good. Americans go to the doctor often. I have had 3 different jobs in the last 38 years and had health insurance provided by all of them and pay 3 to 4 hundred a month to add my wife and 4 kids. The healthcare provided also includes dental, chiropractic and eye coverage. No matter how expensive the visit it's a 25.00 copay and emergency visits are 100.00. I could have a heart attack while I'm there and it would still be 100.00. I actually don't know anyone that doesn't have healthcare insurance. Many states have free healthcare for people that can't afford it. Healthcare is expensive here because our government is in cahoots with the pharmaceutical industry and lawsuits for malpractice is the other reason. The government doesn't care because they want universal healthcare. It's one more thing they control and then they can decide if your worth saving. The best thing about healthcare here is that I could call my Doctor on Monday and get in to see him within a few days. With universal healthcare, many people die just waiting to see their doctor. Canada has free medical, and many Canadians come here for stuff so they don't have to wait 6 months to see a doctor.

Costco is a great company to work for. Their store brand Kirkland is the brand name product, but it must be better by some metric, like the pain relievers work faster, etc.

The reason they check receipts at the door is because they do not pit anything in bags. Patrons agree to this procedure when signing up for a membership. There are other stores attempting to do the same thing. But this is illegal. You don't have to submit to it because you never signed an aggreement at other stores. In the U.S. it is illegal to stop someone before they have left the store. And if they do stop you outside you'd better believe they have proof of theft.

I was at Costco today. The memberships are 1 year. They are $60 canadian dollars or pay $120 and at the end of the year you get 2% cash back on what you purchased through out the year. Gas is also about 5 cents to 13 cents cheaper a litre than normal gas stations. You must have a membership card to put into the machine. The $3.99 you saw for burger was per lb. We pay more in Canada than people in the US. The cooked chicken is 9.99 here vs 4.99 in US. All the people forgot that they needed food in order to need to use the toilet paper. Costco's brand is Kirkland. They pizza's are not too bad. Costco is pretty much, a one stop shop. They have eye place, pharmacy, food, kitchen stuff, tires, gas, furniture, beds etc. Costco takes a loss on the food they serve , when you take employee wages for cooking and serving, they make no money. It is a perk for members.

Birth have gas stations as well. The members collect reward points fir both gasoline and in store purchases, and can apply their collected points towards their in store purchases, and other purchases including automobile purchases, travel, furniture, atvs, and other large items which both Sams and Costco do also sell to their members. Adding their rewards points to be deducted from the price, gives members additional discounts. Tge memberships are well worth paying.

I've been a Costco member for 13 years now. Yes, you can get goods in bulk at cheaper than most stores, but you should not expect the kind of wide variety of selection in terms of brands and sizes that you would see in say, a Walmart. Usually Costo will carry what most people would consider higher quality brands and their in-house Kirkland brand products are actually mostly recognizeable name brand products just specially packaged for Costco - under the Kirkland name in large print you can see what name brand it actually is in smaller print. I don't buy my groceries there since the sizes are too big for me but I buy all my electronics, including Appliances, at Costco as Costo adds a 2nd year to the standard manufacturer's 1-yr warranty. They have a very generous return policy as well - I bought an Orbi wireless router system that I did not setup for over a year, but when I did get around to it, it did not work with my local ISP's equipment and they still took it back for a full refund over a year after I had purchased it when most stores won't take returns after a month.

Costco makes a majority of it's profits by selling memberships and buying and selling things in bulk. This means if you shop there frequently enough, the savings you'll get as a member will far outweigh the membership fees. As for the shelving in the isles, the stuff on the upper shelves is just more of what's on the bottom if the shelves seem out of reach.
