Pakistan's family planning efforts declined after the 1970s, overshadowed by other political and economic priorities. Factors like religious opposition, cultural norms, poverty, and low literacy hinder efforts to promote smaller families. With a population growth rate of 2.55%, Pakistan faces the highest in South Asia after Afghanistan. Without intervention, its 241 million population could double by 2050, straining its economy and human development.
Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, and UNFPA fund projects to improve access to contraceptives and support health workers. Pathfinder International and other NGOs aim to impact attitudes and practices.
