Back in the 70s when I lived in Detroit, their was a guy named Glenn Lamont who own two B-25s. He got his wings at the end of WWII, and he always wanted to fly B-25s. I saw one of his Mitchells coming in for a landing at Detroit City Airport....wheels coming down out of the engine nacelles. I had to stop driving and pull over to the curb just to watch it fly over the rooftops to the airport. It was a thing of beauty. I could imagine what kids growing up in that era must have felt like watching one of those planes fly over.

something else I noticed also, with todays digitized cameras, it picks up the blades going around, which I don't like. Not sure what this great clip was filmed with, but I like that we see as if we are there.

Nice video of such a sweet specimen! My only concern is that you did a run up with a tug still attached. In my 21yrs of aviation that's always been a huge no no. Brakes set and little chocks won't save that B-25 when a brake fails and it jumps the chock and snaps that tiny tow bar and eats the tug for breakfast, then we'll read about it in Warbird Digest. Just trying to help, don't get me wrong.

I was always curious why the Air Apaches (and other units) removed the spring loaded strut door (flap?) on the nose wheel well door (present on this aircraft) from all their gunships. Pictures of Tondelayo, for instance, show the door removed and then when the plane was removed from combat and renamed Chow Hound the door was reinstalled. I'm thinking they must have removed a panel in the wheel well common to the nose for ventilation, but I have no idea. Nice video.

There are still several business that specialize in the big radials to keep them going for air cargo operations. They are even producing some new parts and modifications such as EFI. New smaller radials such as Rotec are in production for the homebuilt aircraft market as well.

I would not worry too much, those of us who are around......I am 40. I work at a Pratt & Whitney Service Center and I have been only with the company for 2 yrs. I am the only one with any Radial engine experience.
