I wouldn't be able to look in the mirror if I paid that much for the GM when the Viltrox exists for less than a quarter of the price and produces nearly indistinguishable quality.
@@MarioSoMedia Maybe so. To me, the differences were most obvious in the sharpness tests. As for the rest of the comparisons, I couldn't tell it. That said, I am a newbie in this field, so my eye just may not be trained.
@@blockhedd424 you won't really notice the difference unless youre a professional. If you are using it for content creation on social medias then it's no question the viltrox is better
I don’t use the 85mm focal length a lot so I’ve had and sold the 85GM, Sony 85 f1.8, and Sigma 85 DG DN. looking at your samples and others I think the Viltrox performs very well and has great image quality. A definite buy for me to have the 85 available. Bokeh and look was really close in my eyes compared to GM. I can live with out the extra few percent extra bokeh for the price differenc r
I feel like the sharpness tests gave Viltrox away (for me at least) The bokeh on the G Master looks more round. But the price of Viltrox for this kinda result is really good!
The biggest difference was definitely in the Bokeh, that was the only one I got all of them correct. I wish you had zoomed in 1:1 on the sharpness test though. Seems like a great lens for the price
@@manikenpachi2760 it will work on the a6000 but you'll get a focal length equivalent of 127.5mm. This is a lens for full frame cameras so you won't be taking the full advantage of the lens with an apsc camera.
Nice video Mario! My thoughts exactly! I know have the Sigma 85mm f1.4 (literally just unboxed it and made a video lol) and I always have the Viltrox in the back of my mind. There is of course a difference but very minimal for most people. But once you use a higher megapixel camera then the difference is noticeable even more. But not when you watch the photo on a little screen as a smartphone. Great job!
Why buy a 1800 dollar lens in 2023 if your pics wind up on Instagram with 8mb.. Or does anybody know a good printlab were even an 8x10 is under a hundred $... Guess not
Depends on your line of work. For product photography or when your work ends up on large billboards/display screens sharpness is quite essential. If you shoot events, sports, wildlife you need good AF. For architecture zero distorsions/ no fringing and good flare control are essential. The viltrox is a great lens for an enthusiast but not quite there for pro work
So how many did you get right?
Only 1 tbh 😂

The Viltrox really impressed me but the GM definitely has its place albeit quite pricey!

+Blake R yeah for sure. The GM is crazy sharp!

Niiice! This is a ballsy comparison, this is the stuff I want to see! Thank you for this one!
Thanks for watching!

Yeah for sure! The G Master is so sharp it's insane and that bokeh is so nice too.
Great comparison video!! Proof that you don't need to spend loads of money on the 'best' lenses, Viltrox have really stepped up their game!
They have indeed specially since I made this video

Yeah pretty good for that price.
Wow, thought the g-master is going to destroy the viltrox. Now im thinking about getting the viltrox instead 😂
Thank you for the awesome video!
Thanks for watching! Yeah I was so surprised by the results too.
@@MarioSoMedia One year later. Today i ordered the Viltrox for 225€. Insane price i had to buy it immediately
For the price of a used Sigma 85 1.4 DGDN you can get a new Viltrox 85 mk II and and two used Samyang 1.8 primes.
Way more options. Loving it
Thank you!

@@MarioSoMedia also will this work on a Sony a6000? On on the specs I don’t see it?

The white camera is A6000, Master?
It's an even older camera, the a5000. 👌

Hey Gary! Thanks for stopping by. I haven't tried the Sigma yet but that 1.4 sounds tasty!
Yup completely agree.
@@MarioSoMedia it is very tasty haha
Not everyone has a sony A1
So that shouldn't be a problem
That fooled me, I said the sharper was G master and I got the first one right but lost me in the 2nd, I have sold my sigma 30mm and go buy the 85..
Yeah it was very close! Which 85 are you getting?
I like the bokeh you get with the GM!
Yeah! It's so good!
ITS not right top comparw gmaster
🤷🏻♂️
