It’s never the same show, right? Even two consecutive nights in the same city have different set lists. Some people just don’t know, I wish everyone could experience a show once in their life, to blow their minds and feel that energy!

I was fortunate to go to the Bruce Springsteen Born to Run Concert...it lasted three hours, and he finished the regular set with this song...I thought the 3 hour concert was the best one I had ever experienced.....until a few years later when I went to the Springsteen Born to Run concert...this started with a 2 hour set, he took a 20 minute break, then played for 3 hours more! THAT was the greatest concert I've attended in my life...amazing!

Amazing that 45 years after this, the only two band members from this video who are not still playing with him, Danny Federici and Clarence Clemons, are the ones who have passed away. The remainder of the band are still playing with him to this day, and Clarence's nephew Jake has taken over sax duties. These guys know how to play together.

Seeing Bruce Springsteen and The E Street band live is unbelievable. Concerts that go 3hrs plus. The last concert I saw him a few years ago lasted 4hrs. The energy he puts out every show is amazing and no set list is the same. Clarence Clemmons passed , but his nephew Jake plays the sax for the band now. The organ player, Danny Federici, passed as well. Some other great songs to check out: Jungleland, Thunder Road, Badlands, Spirit In The Night. There won't be a shortage of songs to choose from.

The wild the innocent and the east street shuffle. An amazing album. Big part of my life. The Big Man Clarence Clemons, wow, what can I say. He gave me chills playing that sax. A true icon in music. RIP Clarence. Bruce loved him like his own blood. He was his Brother. With regards to stage presence, he has and always has had it, hands down. He controlled the crowd. I have been to his concerts and I know this to be true. He rarely played less than 3.5 hours, mostly 4-hour shows. You were worn out at the end of one of his shows. You came out of the concert feeling like you just saw something and it was worth every dime that you paid.

Late to the party but there is no way to describe the presence of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Not only did they play EVERY song at this level for 3 1/2 hours or longer every night but they have the ability to play 300+ songs at a moment's notice every time they go out on stage. That's right. Most nights Springsteen doesn't have a set playlist and he and the band wing it based on either the mood or fan requests.
There is nothing else quite like a live Springsteen show. I once took my father to a Springsteen show and -- despite him not being a fan -- he has admitted that it was the best live concert he's ever attended. My father has seen Queen, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Alice Cooper, and many more bands that he much prefers and even he had to admit that no one delivered like Springsteen. He's even asked that, next time that he comes into town, I buy him tickets to a show.

Only saw Bruce once, only needed to see him once. It was on the same tour from this video, the 1978 "Darkness on the Ege of Town" album tour. At the time Bruce still only had a "cult" following. I arrived at the venue, a 2500 seat capacity music hall in Omaha, Nebraska, 30 minutes before the show, and you could still purchase a ticket at the box office! While waiting on line a person sold me his ticket, at face value, $8.50, telling me it is a great seat. He wasn't lying, the seat was center from the stage, three rows back from the stage. The performance was just as captivating as this video. Bruce was no more than five feet in front of me during the show. When Bruce stepped off the stage during the song "Spirits In The Night" I walked up to him and stuck my hand out palm up. Bruce looked at me and saw my palm was out for him to slap it. He didn't just slap it lightly. He raised the palm of his hand above his shoulder and it came down and slapped my palm. I raised my arm up, the same way as Bruce had, and when he saw that, he put his palm out and I slapped his. I didn't anything to him. We just gave each other five and kept on duffing!

Thanks for reacting to Bruce. Please react to some more. I put together a set of 10 Live recordings that show Springsteen’s diversity through the nearly 50 years he has been playing.
    I’m a Jersey Girl. I can’t help it.
I am not suggesting you react to any of them or all of them. Just watch a couple and you will be like “Wow. What have I been listening to? How did I miss this?”
Springsteen fans are incredibly devoted. My 37 trips to his shows (I did 6 one year) is nothing compared to fans who have seen 150+. My first was in 1980 but by last was in 2 years ago. I need a fix.
His concerts are legendary. He sells out every show in minutes and his concerts will typically last 3.5 hours with sets of 25 songs or more. Bruce makes an
unexplainable, indelible, even mystical, connection with his fans every single time he steps on stage.

Bruce comes from a time when a band, or any perfomer, had to build an audience on stage before a record label would ever consider signing them.
The intro bit was part of every show, and always has been. When they hit the road again, it will most likely still be.
It is rehearsed, in that a song late in the set, maybe during encores, will have a lengthy vamp where the intros. They're such a solid tight band, that 40-plus years in, they still have a bar band vibe. The best one ever!

Here are a few more wonderful Bruce songs to react to, I'd suggest studio versions of all for the pure unadulterated sound, but he's just so good live as you saw that I won't say no to a live version of them hehehe: Dancing in the Dark, My Hometown, Brilliant Disguise, Streets of Philadelphia, Blood Brothers, Secret Garden, This Hard Land, I'm On Fire

Tom Morello played on one of the Australian tours and commented that he had to learn so many songs as Bruce would just either change the set list mod concert or pick up a song request from the crowd.
    The concerts are so dynamic.

Funny that out of the blue the other day, I was thinking you need to do some Springsteen, and here it is. And I'm not even a Springsteen fan, but those early albums were great, especially his live stuff.

Organ player was the late Dan Federici, which is probably where you heard "Reece." The band on stage in this performance is the same band that's been playing with Bruce from about that time until the present, minus Federici and Clemons following their deaths, and with the addition of Nil Lofgren and Bruce's wife Patti Scialfa as guitarists/vocalists, and Soozie Tyrell as a violinist.
The interesting thing about the band is that they've been playing together since they were kids, some of them since literally in high school or just out of high school. They have a deep, deep love for each other, but don't particularly LIKE each other, if that makes any sense. You can tell in his most recent album that Bruce deeply misses Clarence and Dan, as well as the leader of his first band who recently passed. At the same time, though, they had difficult relationships. Bruce is demanding. He's the Boss. All of them have side/solo music and acting gigs, and Bruce has done several solo albums with one or two members of the E Street Band, as well as a couple albums with an entirely different backing band that he toured with for part of the 90s. The E Street Band was more or less broken up from about 1985 to 1995 while everyone did their own thing. They've been back together since. The most recent album, they recorded live in Bruce's home studio with minimal overdubs.
At this stage in his life, Bruce was also deeply depressed, which you totally wouldn't know from his performance. He keeps that shit up for three hours. Five years or so after this performance he discovered Prozac and working out in the gym. He's still pretty ripped at 70-something years old. I wouldn't want to mess with him. In the 80s he started wearing vests or shirts with the sleeves ripped off, so everyone could admire his guns while he played.
For my money, Bruce and the E Street Band are the greatest recording artists of all time. Awards, chart positions, concert attendance, and lifetime earnings compared to other acts back that up. He's top 3 or 4 all time in all those metrics, and has multiple Grammys, an Oscar, and a Tony. He recently sold his catalog to Sony for more than a half billion dollars, eclipsing Bob Dylan's catalog sale from a year or so previous. He is, simply put, the greatest living musical artist and compares favorably to The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, and Kanye in every measure of popularity. If I'm not mistaken, every song on Born in the USA charted top 40, which is a record that still stands.
Love your insights into the songs from a musician's perspective!

The Hammond B3 is played by Danny Federici. I's been to 37 Concerts With Bruce and E Street and I am still considered a newbie. There are folks who have been to litterally hundreds of shows and they typically are over 3 hours in length. On of the Hallmarks of these concerts is people will hold up signs with song titles. Most are his tunes.. But I have seen him break into Brown-eyed Girl or Satisfaction by the Stones on the fly. And the band is right there with him. That is the musicianship you talked about. And the showmanship is till there 45 years later. The man takes his audience to Church . How about another live performance?
