Thx for commenting. Can’t hardly count how many times I played this song at my parties. Always got everyone dancing. The beginning of the song is Top 10 of All Time to me. Raw, dark, pulsing. Still love it! Hard to find other similar songs. Broadly, Pain by Boy Harsher is one, as is Motorcycle Maniac by Three Angry Poles, and Go! by Tones On Tail. Dog Star by Meat Beat Manifesto, too, except it’s not danceable, lol. Oh, and Dancing With Myself. Wish there was another couple dozen of these! Maybe you guys can create one?
@deboraiyall3406 OMG! Debora, I adore you & this song! I was in LA in the 80's, I swear we tore up the floor of Power Tools every time this came on. You are an amazing performer, All the absolute best to you!
They were on an MTV show called Bands Reunited where they brought them back together for a one night show. It was sad to hear the stories of how they were treated over Debora’s weight. One of the band members said the record company insisted they use a model in the video for Girl In Trouble bc they didn’t want to showcase Debora. He also said that Clive Davis came to a show & literally walked out after seeing Debora on stage. I like the fact that she was confident in who she was & had a strong personality that didn’t let others dictate how she should look. Thanks for the reaction!!!
Cass Elliott. Aretha Franklin and Etta James all were “plus sized” (being generous), and had no issues (to use one example from each decade of their prime leading up to 70s, 60s. 50s). Of course all 3 examples were substantially more established vs. what is essentially a one hit wonder / lesser known “underground” type
@@Samscoinsandheavymetal Aretha did not start out "plus sized" or she never would have been signed. Etta had been performing since she was a teen and she was never a superstar compared to Aretha and other. As far a Cass, John Phillips was totally against her joining his group and then good sense finally won out.
I had that album back in the day. Loved them. Debora Iyall is a Native-American from Fresno (a place where I've lived) and she didn't fit the usual rock image. First off, she was a female fronting a band and secondly she was a big girl. Talent is what mattered and Romeo Void was successful regardless.
Sadly, it was totally her weight. There were plenty of woman singers that headed bands - think Heart, Blonde, Fleetwood Mac to name 3 off the top of my head.
You youngstas on the reaction wave are bringing back memories of bands I packed away, perhaps to never be rediscovered again. You definitely need to look into Missing Persons and The English Beat.💯
@@phuturelee3420 No doubt. I left out the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Specials, Erasure, the Beat, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Bad Manners, New Order, and a shitload of others. Those two bands were the 1st that came to mind, so I suggested them.
I was a typical blond teen pageant girl when this came out. I was in awe of her badass confidence. She was raw and beautiful. So talented. It helped challenge the line I was being feed about what is pretty, sexy, interesting and attractive in great ways. I was already knee deep in my bulemia and on a certain path. But when that came to an end, she was one of the touchstones in my head that challenged my sick conditioning. Plus this song and all their stuff rocks.
I first saw the video and heard this song in a bar in Bangkok, it was on a compilation pop video DVD, which I borrowed off the DJ to copy as I couldn't find it anywhere.
Girl in Trouble is a wonderful song but its the lead singer of Romeo Void Deborah Iyall singing solo. She left Romeo Void and had a solo career and that was her big hit.
Early MTV days were awesome. These guys were kinda punk, kinda ska, definitely new wave and fun. Imagine going to the clubs back then, the raw energy of the bands, it didn’t matter if they had perfect vocals.
The background of this song is that she wrote it about one of the band members, who never knew the song was about him, until decades later. She knew he only saw her as a platonic friend, so she tried to convince herself that she didn’t like him...that is, unless they slept together.
Oh I can't believe you found this song- I love it!!! Another great song by this group is A Girl in Trouble is a Temporary Thing. Thanks for this reaction!🥳
I REALLY miss the sax in the early 80's!! So many groups were experimenting with it and it only got better and better. One group that had amazing sax in it was the Psychedelic Furs.
this was one of my favorite bands at the time and I am so gratified people are starting to discover them these many years later. They were so funky and unique and the lyrics were so brilliant...

I love your channel ... your selection of songs is so much more diverse/eclectic than what I've seen on other YT channels. I'll keep watching your reactions - greetings from Berlin, Germany 👋

This video was such a HUGE staple in MTV back when it first came out 38 years ago(damn, I'm old!! 😆)...this is such a classic cut I can't imagine the early 80s without hearing it...the new wave and punk rock wave was in full effect around this time and kids were highly influenced by a lot of new groups and their videos being shown on a daily basis on MTV...next Romeo Void video you should watch is "Girl In Love Is A Temporary Thing", which actually gave the group their first and only top 40 hit...😎👍🏿🎶🎵

Deborah Ayall (sp?) Was a target for fat shaming at the time this appeared. MTV effectively killed the career of Romeo Void in the same way Kennedy "defeated" Nixon in the first televised presidential debate (Nixon won on radio, Kennedy won on tv) Romeo Void was one of the first to blaze the trail that Lizzo now walks.
One of the most Underrated bands ever ! They have another great song "Girl In Trouble"....by the way the lead singer Deborah Iyall is a public school teacher in Arizona now.
The 80s was such a fun time for music. Out with the classic rock, in with the punk and new wave. It was refreshing and energizing to have a new beat in the block. This is a great song. We danced our asses off. Another great one by them is “A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing)”

So this band (Romeo Void) was in the studio one day and while playing this song it was overheard by a highly regarded musician, a legend in his own right and he went right in and produced it for the band. That man was Ric Ocasek from The Cars. That speaks volume. This entire band was great. 🤘

Deborah Iyall, HIGHLY underrated singer. Yeah, she wasn't a Barbie doll. Neither is Ann Wilson. And they're both gorgeous.

They were one hell of a band. And Debora had such a unique style. Should have gotten much more recognition.
This song was easily about 12 years ahead of its time. Much more of a 90s guitar and vocal arrangement .
I disagree; jagged guitars were a big part of this scene, and the sneering vocal was as well.

Total avant-garde '80s! This is what was considered alternative at the time.
She wrote great lyrics.
The chorus "I might like you better if we slept together" is simultaneously a come-on and a put-down.
Yeah the entire lyrics come across very sultry very emotional yet at the same time very apathetic. Its amazing writing.
