Cold sticky rice is the trick to good stir fry. Make it a day or two before you plan on using it and you shouldn’t have any issues with mushy rice. I also like to use a spiced oil and add sesame seeds as well. A small wok or Skottle will kick it up a notch too.
Thank you so much for the tips! We will have to try that next time.
I have a Coleman stove and oven that are about 40 years old and they work great for camping. I have made a lot of biscuits in the oven and they turn out great as long as you are careful about the burner level. I usually burn the edges of a few biscuits in a full pan to get the center biscuits as brown as I like them, but none get too brown to eat. The oven is about 12” square, that’s a guess as I haven’t measured it, and does crowd the second burner some so that a second pan/pot may not sit centered over the burner. That is using the Coleman stove the oven was designed for. If you have a different stove your burners may be spaced differently. I have never had to cover my oven with foil but there are a few UA-cam videos showing how that improves the efficiency of the oven. I have baked at outside temperatures down in the 30s and the oven did just fine. As with anything, there is a learning curve, so it may take a time or two to determine how your stove works with the Coleman oven. It is certainly not like cooking in your oven at home but it works reasonably well.
I have considered using a Dutch oven but I don’t always have a fire and you really need to put coals on the lid to brown the top of the food. Also, a Dutch oven is heavy and requires a little more upkeep. I may bake once in a weeks worth of camping so the Coleman oven is easier for me. Overall, I think a Dutch oven will yield better results and if you plan to bake a lot it would probably be a better choice. If you want something so you can bake occasionally then the Coleman oven may suit you.
I am enjoying your videos about Arkansas campgrounds. I grew up in Arkansas and learned to swim at Albert Pike around 1951. I have great memories of that place. I will never forget how cold the water was and hiking with my family over the mountain trails to what we called the bear cave. Those are great memories!
Joe, thank you so much for your information on the oven. We have one on order and plan to test it out soon. We have a dutch oven, but our problem in most cases is we are doing activities all day, and when we start cooking, it is normally when we also start a fire, and we don't want to be eating at 9. We are normally early eaters and like to eat around 5-6pm. But during the winter months when we spend more time around the fire, we do bring out the dutch oven. We plan to use it more this winter. Think we would like to use the oven in the hoter times of year as well when we dont make a fire as often.
Thank you so much for watching our videos! Means so much! Bet Albert Pike was really different back in 1951! Thank you again for all your advice!!!
Yep we have the Coleman folding oven and it’s da bomb! Nothing beats fresh baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast or gooey warm cookies before bed. It also does casseroles and bread nicely too. Only downsides are having to use smaller pans and the thermometer on the door sucks. Smaller pans can be found at most dollar stores and I hang a probe style grill thermometer thru a hole in the top panel. Oh and awesome underwater footage!
Right on! We just put an order in for one!!! We will have to look for the smaller pans> Thank you for the heads up! Thank you for watching!
I absolutely love my oven...best biscuits ever! I also have an assortment of Lodge Iron but the Coleman oven will always have a place in my kit.
Thank you so much! We put it on order today!
Hi guys, I make fried rice often and through the years I've learned that a 50/50 combo of white long grain and jasmine rice is best; at least for us. Cook it the night before and keep it cold until heat time. Nice Video.
Thank you so much for the tip! We will have to try that for sure!
I was having a crappy day today because I’m in New Jersey picking up a load and remember that I haven’t watch the last couple episodes. I’m in a good mood and relaxed now thank you🌺
Sorry to hear that, but we are so happy that we were able to change that for you.
It was a nice weekend for sure! We were camping north of Broken Bow, found some good kayak spots. You can get a lid for your cast iron skillet, or use 2 of the same size. Put one upside down on top of the other, turn it into a mini dutch oven and cook or heat up cinnamon rolls in there.
It sure was! Hope yall had a blast! We will have to try your idea!! Thank you for the tip!
@@CodyandKellie For sure! You can use coals from the fire, put them underneath and on top to reach desired temp
I used jasmine rice for a long time but now use basmati rice. Game changer! It's not as sticky and mushy. A bit more money but well worth it. Have fun guys!
Thank you so much for the tip!!! We will have to try that next time.
When I camped years ago I loved using my Coleman oven. It’s so nice as it folds flat for small storage. Great weekend!!!
Thank you! We just placed an order for one!!!
Oh yeah I forgot to mention this but it’s easier to keep the temp regulated if you put something in the bottom to serve as a heat sink. I use a round Lodge cast iron trivet but a small pizza stone or a fire brick works equally as well. It helps the oven get back up to temp quicker when you’re baking multiple batches of something and have to keep opening the door. Can’t wait to see what you guys serve up from yours!
Thank you!
I do believe in sasquatch. I went camping with my kids this summer and the area is known for sightings. At 3am one night a tree got smacked so hard very close to us, then another then another further down. When they camped in the same spot a month before they heard something walk up through at night that was breathing real deep and making deep gutteral sounds.
"I had a bug fly up my nose" ..... AWESOME !!!! Great video
😁Keeping it real LOL. Thanks for watching!
Rewatching some older videos, chicken teriyaki looks so good!
I’ve been using a camp stove for years. Wore the first one out. Great for biscuits and corn bread. Keep up the great work guys!!
We have ours on order. We are so excited to try and make some biscuits and cornbread! Thank you.
Binge watching your videos lol my wife and I are trying to figure out where we want to camp next week! Thanks for the videos. They are helpful, as my wife and I are new to camping.
Thank you so much for watching! Yall should have a blast!
you guys should have 200,000 subscribers! Binge watching, subscribed, thumbs up and watch the commercials.. love you guys .. the thrill of the chill is your funniest video yet.. I am going to mention that in every comment :)
Thank you!!!
You guys are really enjoying your life 🤿🎣🛹🚣🏾🏊🏻♀️
Thank you. We try lol
you guys need to try dutch oven cooking. You got the cast iron skillet cooking down. Cast iron dutch oven is so much more versital.
We agree! We have a dutch oven and have only shared it once in our vlog "A Ouachita Christmas" ua-cam.com/video/2edejUoI_9g/v-deo.html. Kellie did a great job with if for sure! We plan of getting it out more this winter.
My four year old said it’s most definitely big foot!
Really enjoying seeing these cool locations in Arkansas. We are near Memphis and can’t wait to head that way and hopefully find a good secluded spot near a creek!
Make sure to tell your four year old that we really think it was big foot as well!!!
Thank you so much for watching. Hope y'all enjoy yourselves!
Love your videos! I love Mena and all of Arkansas. It's nice watching your cooking Kelly. The drone footage is nice.👍
Thank you so much!
I always enjoy your videos. I hope you feel better soon Cody.
Thank you for watching! My head is almost back to normal lol. Thank you!
You started with fabulous aerial shots. Then, you followed by a cook showoff and dine time. You guys had an amazing adventure in the woods. Anyway that water sound at 13:21 a music. I can't imagine how relaxing it is to hear it while camping. Thanks :)
Thanks so much for all your kind words!
Hey guys we love your channel.we are from lake village arkansas but we moved to HOUSTON TX .We never new that arkansas had such beautiful country!! We just bought an rv and going to check that out.Hope we might see you guys
We plan of going to Lake Chicot State Park later this year and do a vlog there! We have through there quite a few times. Not many people know that that is the largest oxbow lake in America, and the largest natural lake in Arkansas!!! We have never been to Houston before. That will be awesome! Hope to see you out in the forest soon!!!
@@CodyandKellie there's at lot of history in lake village mostly the Italians lol.my wife's people came over and settled in Lake Village in the 1800s .If you guys get time check out the pumping station.the flood in 1920 from the Mississippi river actually formed the lake.hope to see you on other!!!!!
It’s been really warm for us up here in central Canada as well. Crazy how cooking is such a huge part of the camping lifestyle!
So true! Thank you for watching. We hope to go full time in the near future and want to explore Canada. When are the best times to visit central Canada? We wanted to start near Nova Scotia, and work our way west to Vancouver.
DOME LIFE big trip! Depends what you would like to see and how much time you are going to have! Beautiful pristine lakes in Northern Saskatchewan to the Rockies in Alberta. You won’t go wrong to be here anytime from mid June to mid August. I can provide you with some more insight if you would like.
Thank you that would be great! Can you message us on Facebook or Instagram messenger?
We love yall! So glad we found your channel
Thank you so much! We are so happy that y'all found us!
We bought the Coleman oven. It is a game changer. Absolutely loved it. We made homemade pizza and cake too. You all need one. Cheap too! $35.99
Happy to hear that! We have our on order. Should be here soon!
Good stuff guys! Just got back into Camping again. I'm heading to the woods for the next 5 weeks of camping in Oregon. Making a transition from Cruise life back to camp life. Your work is great 👍 looking forward to seeing more.
Happy your getting back out there. Hope you have a blast. Than you for watching!!!
I just tried Kellie’s penne with ricotta cheese and Italian squash recipe and man oh man! It was delicious! 😋 Thank you!
Your so welcome and happy you enjoyed it!
My family makes cornbread in our small cast iron skillet, while out in the woods. I must say there is almost nothing better then waking up to the cool crisp Arkansas weather & eating a piece of fresh made cornbread with a little butter. Not exactly healthy of course, but on a tight budget for camping can be nice cheap treat. Great upload. Liked commented & shared.
That sounds so nice! Thank you so much for watching!
Love watching your channel. Life long tent campers here, soon to be small rv's. Just ordered two mugs!
Thank you for watching and thank you for the order!!! Means so much! We would love to see your new adventure! Make sure to share on our Facebook Group Page!
I think this has been my fave video from you guys so far. Good food, beautiful surroundings, and extra silliness (must of been whatever you were drinking in those goblets). ;-)
Oh, and what brand is that water bottle in the side of Kellie's camp chair (looks like it has a tie dye design)?
Thank you so much for your kind words! LOL
to heat up the donuts you can put parchment paper in the cast fry pan and the lid.
That is a great idea! We will have to try that. Thank you!
Once again another outstanding video....
Thank you so much 😀
Y'all just be chillin ! Nice millipede to, hadn't seen one of those in awhile. Kelly will have that head healed up in no time!✌
You got to take it easy every now and then lol. She does a great job of taken care of me. Thank you for watching!
There is an looks like a bundt pan,has a silicone insert.made for baking on stovetops.bake buns, etc
Thank you for the tip!
another great video...thanks. You mentioned the sasquatch a couple of times in the video. How about moving a little further south and camping in the Fouke, Arkansas area (The Legend of Boggy Creek town)? Thanks again for the very entertaining videos, I never miss one.
Thank you!!! We could do something down there one day. But normally when we go in that area we are staying with our family. We are both were born and raised in Texarkana. Kellies parents still live there. Spent alot of time in the ArTex hills area.
I loved it when you talked about how your minds are connected. Jack and I have that also. I think something and he has the same thought. 26 years together.
I was waiting for...Sasquatch! He probably knew you were stewards of the forest so he left you to go about your business. Who really knows?? There sure are enough stories out there.
Speaking of ovens. Do you ever use a cast iron Dutch oven that you put hot coals under and on top of the lid? I bet you would love it!
We do use a Dutch oven. We plan on using it more this winter. Kellie did an amazing pasta dish in our "A Ouachita Christmas" vlog this past year ua-cam.com/video/2edejUoI_9g/v-deo.html. They are amazing!!!
DOME LIFE I do remember that recipe. Now. 😏. I saw that I even liked it then. Thanks for getting back to me. Enjoy. You two are great. Look forward to your videos.
@@tomsergesketter5138 we do need to us it more for sure!
Down in the Southern parts of Arkansas Sasquatch is often known as the “Fouke Monster”, for which “The Legend of Boggy Creek” was based on. If you are ever in the Fouke area, check out the Monster Mart, a little convenience store that is all-things Fouke Monster. My kids want to get down that way soon to check it out. :)
We are very familiar with that story LOL! We are both from Texarkana. We might have to go visit the area again when we go back there to visit our family. If yall go first let us know what you find!
Hello, may i suggest not going with the Coleman stove and instead purchase a 10 or 12 inch dutch oven and buy a bottom plate lifter which raises the aluminum pan we get from the dollar store to put the cinnamon rolls into. I suspend it over my fire with a tripod stand and then place some coals on the lid, you have to practice a bit but in 10-15 minutes you will have delicious rolls, these are always a hit around the fire with "Cowboy Coffee" early in the morning. I use Lodge products and they travel easy and are dependable, good luck!!
Totally agree on the cast iron dutch oven! That's how the pioneers used to do it. Even the cattle drive chuck wagon cooks would make biscuits and cinnamon rolls that way.
That is a great idea! We have a dutch oven that we will bring with us more this winter! But we had already ordered the oven. :(
But we do plan on cooking more with the dutch oven this winter.
We will have to bust out our dutch oven more this winter.
We made cinnamon rolls in our dutch oven while camping last weekend. Burned a few, but most of them turned out really good. We make all kinds of stuff in ours with hot coals on top!
Very cool video. I have been camping for 50 years and still do it, just not as often. Your channel looks very interesting and fun to watch. Do you like the Alps tent. Also, how does it do in the rain? Happy Camping!
Thank you for watching and your kind words! We love our Alps tent. It does great in rain. We have even had it in a hail storm. It was pea size hail, but it still did a great job.
Love your videos, we were on Blaylock Creek off of Little Missouri this weekend. Beautiful weather!!!!
Also, I have one of the ovens, and it was okay. Haven't used it in years. Dutch oven works tons better, but more work. Agree with Joe Nowell, they are very finicky
Thank you so much! Hope yall had a great time when yall were there.
We have put one on order and will see what we can do. We have a dutch oven, but we normally only pull that out in the winter months.
Wow- you guys are really taking off! Doing great with the content (and I see you got that drone)! Much love from your plaid twin... still jealous of that beard too! Hope that head heals up soon:)
Thank you so much! LOL . The head is almost all good!
The Coleman oven is great.
Thank you! We just ordered ours today!
lmao, Thank You for sharing the chuckle.. Much Love..
You are so welcome. LOL Thank you for watching!
Yeyti Monster. Florida name for what we think we saw after the sun goes down.
Where at in Florida do you think you seen one at?
@@CodyandKellie Settin' around the fire spinnin' yarns ( Florida for tellin' lies) North Central or somewhere therabouts.
I have the Coleman oven and it is awesome!
Thank you! We will have to put one on order now!
I use a coleman oven it can hold 450 degrees with no wind. DOWNSIDE I have a NON coleman stove and a coleman grill. On my stove I melted the plastic knob off the stove, because of the overhang of the oven gets very hot. My stove is only about 8 inches wide and the oven is over 10 inches. The oven works in such a way that the round burner/flame from the stove, shoots up though a ring cut out in the bottom of the oven. so the fire from the burner must be centered under the oven. The oven heats up nicely if centered on the round flame, Which is why my grill doesn't work all that well It's flame is oblong and doesn't go up into the bottom of the oven correctly. Overall if you can get it dialed in correctly this is a great little oven. It comes with only one rack, but I think having a second rack would come in handy.
450 degrees is solid! We have a coleman stove, so hopefully it will work.
It's probably a Squatch there are 108 sightings a year there, and they are real !
Almost forgot!! CAMP CHEF has the best oven for camping 🏕 😋
Thank you! We will have to look at that!
Beauty of life mints😍😍😍
I have an acquaintance who was camped in Oregon elk hunting, around dusk large tree limbs and boulders started raining down on their camp from the dark woods, they rolled up and moved camp, he still swears it was Bigfoot
We would think for sure that was Bigfoot!
Yeeeeeeeeeea thank you kelly and cody , im famous lol , im on UA-cam lol , thanks for the cast iron tip kelly , now I know what i was doing so wrong, god bless both of you, and cody, please no more accidents lol , I noticed right away your cut lol , thanks guys from Savannah Georgia your friend manny 👍👍👍, mmmmmm PS. kelly thanks for the blessings at the beginning of the video, ( really cute lol ) 👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗 OOOOOOOOH I ALMOST FORGOT, HOW YOU GUYS MET ?

Ok..thats it..I'm volunteering to hold the camera for you while you cook lol John John and Cody can go on a lil adventure down the creek..I want to try some of this cooking out in the woods!! Heads up tho..I don't eat meat! :)))
😁 LoL sure thing. We make meals without meat every now and then.
@@CodyandKellie so I've seen! :)))
So did the incense help? Biting flies got me this weekend on lake Ouachita. Don’t give up on brown rice, you can get a firmer bite with a little practice.
They actually did! We will make sure to try again!
The Falk monster; look that up. First seen in Falk, Arkansas down below Texarkana.
Fouke. The Legend of Boggy Creek. I'm from that area.
Oh yeah we know about the Legend of Boggy Creek. We are from Texarkana. Fouke is just down the road. We will have to go looking!
Heck yeah! We are from Texarkana. Born and raised.
Love the videos have been watching non stop to catch up with all your blogs. My wife and I will be traveling to Arkansas for 7 days of remote camping starting the 19th of this month. We are living in Texas but originally from Canada and have never been to Arkansas. We want to go off the grid and park by a creek or river for some serious down time. Can you suggest a good spot to start our trip as I have no idea where to go. We have a Jeep with a roof top tent so we are able to do some rougher terrain if necessary.
Keep the videos coming as I love watching and planning our next quest.
Thank you for watching all of them!!! Means so much! Sure thing! Check out the Albert Pike area! It is a great spot to start! goo.gl/maps/GZEA9p28xWpeZ2Lr8
@@CodyandKellie Thanks for the recommendation.
Next time you hear all the Ruckus get a stick and crack a tree three or four times and if you hear them crack a tree then you may have a Sasquatch in your grasp keep on camping😎
Thanks for the tip! We will make sure to do that next time!
I used to have lawn chairs like yours. They have long since worn out. I’d love to find some more because they’re so comfortable. Any suggestions where to find them? I haven’t been able to. Thanks! I love your videos by the way!
We got ours at Walmart. They have them there every spring. Thank you so much for watching!
Sorry about the gnarly cut, dude! Great video again though. Question: Are there bears in the Ouachita National Forest? If so, how do y'all prepare for a potential encounter?
Thank you! It happens sometimes. There are bears in all parts of the Ozarks and Ouachtias. We have event had them where we live in West Little Rock. We have had a few encounters with them coming into our campground at night. But the biggest thing we do when out in the National Forest is to make sure to put all our food, cooker, trash bag, and dishes back in our vehicle and lock the door since they are really good at opening doors now days. lol But every time we see them, they always run away. However, we dont go chasing after them. Also, if you ever see a cub, get the heck out of the area!!!
I love primitive/dispersed/boondock camping, but always get chiggers and/or poison ivy... any tips on avoiding that would be great! Thanks! btw... I am addicted to your videos... I watch one everyday on my lunch break!
On the plain ivy, Cody is not effected by it, and I just make sure to lather your and pull off the oils that cause it. For the other bitters, most for them don’t like smoke from a camp fire. Thank you so much for watching!!!
Guys like I said love the channel ur living life like I'd love to lol , hav yall ever thought bout getting u a small trailer to fix up for all ur camping gear , I kno some of the roads yall go down would b a problem turning around but it would eliminate packing and u could carry so much more !!
No! Tent camping rules! Glamping in an RV is not camping!
I didn't mean a camper I meant a dry box trailer set up for the gear , that way when ur ready to roll hook up and go right , the only thing you hav to load is food
Thank you so much for watching! We have actuality been talking about that. We are thinking about traveling full time, and have talked about build out a trailer with weather sealed lock boxes for our bikes, a larger water taken (with water-heater), and weather sealed drawers to store all our gear in. Also make sure its low profile enough to lock our kayaks on top. Oh, and one last thing, we want it to have high clearance for off road. (i have it all planned out in my head lol (This is Cody by the way)).
LOL We love tent camping for sure! But we have talked about a trailer. I shared with Milton Thacker above a idea we have. But we still would be using our tent for sure. DOME LIFE 4 LIFE lol
@@CodyandKellie My son is fixing to start school there in Hot Springs and I've been thinking on the idea myself so we can meet up on the weekends and camp and fish and I told him bout the island camping yall been doing and all around the area , and he is down for some outdoor fun lol
