Well it’s about dadgum time I finally see a video of someone who really knows how to skin a squirrel properly. I have been doing it like this for 35 years but I have never seen anyone else that already knew this method.
@@pewter7115 if you need to kill a squirrel and don’t have a firearm you need some sort of pellet gun, or you really shouldn’t try to kill one. Quick clean kill is the name of the game, and if you can’t take it out with a headshot, you shouldn’t be trying to kill one.
I have a big oak tree in my front yard with lots of acorns and 7 to 10 well fed[and rather tame] squirrels in my yard every morning.I kinda like having them around as while my fridge is full now,if[or when] the shit hits the fan I feel like I have a good food source for several days in these squirrels. Thanks for showing a efficient way of cleaning one.
Hey Rob, I know it’s been 2 years since your post but just wanted to share that squirrels multiple like CRAZY which is great for us hunters. I have two huge oaks in my backyard and every season I essentially clear it out of squirrels. During the off season every year a new family of squirrels or the remnants of the past family I didn’t finish off make a bunch of more squirrels and invite more in. By time it’s season again, I have JUST as many squirrels in my backyard on my trees if not even more some years. Always worth the shoot! They can’t help but come back to a good tree: setting some feeders is good too. Good hunting!
I see this video has been up for a while but I would like to say thanks to you and Sam for posting my new way of cleaning squirrel. Just tried this method yesterday and wow! I would pass up on squirrels until they were too thick at my feeder because it was so time consuming to clean them. I am going after them again today. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. I had to take a few squirrels with a pellet rifle today, they found a gap in the eaves and got into the crawlspace of the house I rent and started digging through the ceiling, catch and release traps weren't working. I don't want them to go to waste, so this video was excellent. Much appreciated, wishing you all the best.
Yes, I just spent several thousand getting damage to air ducts, etc. Fixed from squirrels and ' coons damaging the house. Not allowed to take em in town. No problem animal services, no dog catchers. One guy mistepped and fell through my ceiling. What an ordeal !.
There is a couple other videos on UA-cam they use the tail method of cleaning which seemed to work way better at least for me. There's a longer one where the guy uses the tail method and then teaches you a way to cook it which turned out really good!
I’ve been skinning squirrels this way with my homemade jig since the 60,s. Two things he needed is a five gallon bucket of water and some side cutter pliers or lineman pliers. Soak the squirrels in water until good and wet to hold down the hair problem and for washing hands during cleaning. The side cutters or pliers make it easy to snip the feet off. Cutting the tail bone can be easier if you locate the one joint that has soft cartilage nearest to the rump.
I couldn't quite follow after he had removed the legs. Did he cut near the top or bottom of the body? And then did he cut up the sides of the body cavity? Really could have used a closeup & slow play of that part. Thanks
There’s been squirrels eating the apple corn I set out for the deer. They look like little footballs now and don’t let the deer near the feeder. Time for squirrel and dumplings
You can follow this, but if your hands are in bad shape put a heavy screw in lag type hook into a post or tree, when you make your cut in its back put the hook in the cut on its back and you can use both hands to pull the hide off, pull one side,,, flip and pull the other end off
I guess a year later now, I can use this in case they push bug eating and SHTF. Chipmunks are too easy to catch. Stinkers ate a hole in my garage. Heard edible too. Plenty more rabbits over the few years I've been here. Usually within an hour of setting a trap midday. Some squirrels get in there. I release in the deep woods but knowing this trick could be a lifesaver one day.
This is my favorite method by far. I've tried the tail method but sometimes I almost end up ripping the squirrel in half. Plus you don't have to step on the tail and screwed up. I like to save them for tying flies.
That's the way my Granpaw showed me.I watch 3 videos of people using a contraption to hold their legs and cutting the tail and using it to skin them. I laughed as I watch them struggle with that little critter
Nothing better than fried squirrel, cat head biscuits with red eye graveyard for breakfast. Squirrel are easy to skin out especially if your hungry after milking the the cows at 4 am.
I'm not in hurry can somebody show me the best way to clean a squirrel without trying to break the worlds record? I'm not trying to impress anyone like this guy is
Sorry you thought it was too quick. He really wasn’t going that fast. We actually asked that he not show how fast he can really do it so everyone can watch.
G3 Sportsman I didn’t mean to be critical. It was just sort of fast. I watched it very slowly and I could see better. There are good tips. Thanks for the lesson!
They skin 10 times easier if you clean them right away.Cut the tail and save them for MEPPS .Cut the front and back feet off and do the rest like he showed you.Never had to soak them cuz cleaning them minutes after shooting them the hide glides right off a warm body EVEN FOX SQUIRRELS.
Do you think that there’s a chance of KFC ,Kentucky Fried Chicken. Ever doing KFS Kentucky Fried Squirrel 🐿️.?!!! Just an idea? Or what about Kentucky Fried 🐊 Crocodile. Because in Australia 🇦🇺 we seem to have them popping up everywhere.?
Sam did this slow so you guys could pick up on how he does it. Off camera he made short work of the squirrels. Don’t even think he got any blood on him. Thanks for watching
Wonder why he didnt skin one of them fox squirrels lol they are super tough grey squirrel are way easier pulling the skin off this method but this is the method my uncle and dad showed me and this is the only way i would skin a squirrel

Can you explain what is the best way to kill a squirrel if one does not have a firearm?
@@pewter7115 pellet gun or if you’re rlly accurate use a strong slingshot with metal pellets
@@pewter7115 if you need to kill a squirrel and don’t have a firearm you need some sort of pellet gun, or you really shouldn’t try to kill one. Quick clean kill is the name of the game, and if you can’t take it out with a headshot, you shouldn’t be trying to kill one.

Thanks for showing this method. I may try to squirrel hunt again. It should work with even old arthritic hands and fingers.
I have arthritic thumbs and it was easier for me. Get out and do a little squirrel. If not for anything else but good therapy. Thanks for watching

Switched to this method recently and its a game changer.
I killed my first squirrel today I am 13 it was annoying and hard but this way will probably make it way easier

That is one of the best ways to clean a squirrel.
I’m trying that back cut next time. The tail method is hard sometimes.

I looked up this video just to see if I could post one on my UA-cam channel the way I like to do it to make sure UA-cam wouldn't take it down 😂

Where did you get them magic scissors?
How long after the kill do you have to clean and put in pot normally, or in refrigerator??
We clean them within a couple of hours. Usually soak in cold clean water a day or two usually works. Can cook or freeze.
Looks fast but I couldn’t see a thing after the legs
Really? Sorry about that. Thought we videoed to where it could easily be seen

It's kinda hard to clean them right after the kill cause we hunt for a few hours
Better taste too IMO
I came here cause you gotta know what yer talkn bout...Type that in the intro and u know the youtube experts coming for ya.
Would have been nice if you could have zoomed in the camera so we could have actually seen what was happening
Who makes the scissors?
They’re Gerber
😭😭😭😭 squirell its my fav funny animal .very cute
Nice 👍
Is that warm water or just cold
Just cool water from a bottle
good vid.
Too bad we couldn't see the back and the gutting. The beginning looked promising though.
I've cleaned many BUT never like this buy will today.
fully eattended
can you tell us what kind of scissors he was using?
These were by Gerber. Great cutters
now I can put away the power washer and hedge clippers !!
Entertaining BUT to fast and not close up views so too difficult to follow
Thanks
Wish I found this before I have mine to the dogs lol. Nasty little buggers
Think I will stay with the shirt and britches method.
Shoot my first squirrel today my dad got one of those gun racks that help u sight them in and I zeroed my air rifle with it

What sizzors
They were Gerber. Work great
this is good for beginner hunters. And thoose people who need to help but don`t like it. XD

I do it just like this it's the best way
Thank you .it would take me 10min.lol
Wonder why he didnt skin one of them fox squirrels lol they are super tough grey squirrel are way easier pulling the skin off this method but this is the method my uncle and dad showed me and this is the only way i would skin a squirrel
Them fox squirrels are tough. This method was the first I'd seen. He can clean a mess really fast.
G3 Sportsman well i enjoyed wachig this video. And. Yall keep up the good work
I couldn’t see what he was doing just needed to zoom in on the squirrel a good bit more
Aren't there stink glands in squirrels? Some vids show stink glands removal, others don't. Is it a big deal if stink glands aren't removed?
This way of cleaning removes any glands. Cutting the legs above the knees will remove them
If you guys want the best way to clean a squirrel go to Derek Fowler’s channel exactly how I spelt it without the apostrophe s.
I don't think camo is necessary for squirrel hunting.
Most cold weather clothes we have just happen to be camo
He has lots of no hair meet
U wasted the head , heart and liver😩
Eat the ,brains.
is that warm or cold water?
Just from water bottles. Kid of cool to the touch.
