Cost of Living USA vs Morocco, How Much Does Souk Cost? MorAcro, Schaumburg, Illinois

  • Mor Acro is back from Morocco, we investigate the cost of living USA and we have sticker shock as we check the cost of vegetables and fruit at our local farmers market in Schaumburg Illinois. Considered a bit pricier than local grocery stores, the Schaumburg farmers market serves the Schaumburg area. connecting producers to consumers. Nestled in the heart of Schaumburg Illinois, the weekly farmers market sells more than fruit and vegetables, but also meats and dairy as well, something for every taste. The variety of products really surprised me, it was cool to see the flavors and diversity of what farmers are producing. We try our 200 Dh challenge to see what $20 would get us at the Illinois farmers market vs the souk. If you have been following Moracro since Agadir Morocco, you know he loves his fruits and veggies to fuel a healthy body with a yoga lifestyle.
    Todays products include: Sunchokes, Hair of the Ferret, Pineapple peach mango salsa, Popcorn, Birch Sap, Baby garlic, Hibiscus tea, Beef for tajine, Dog treat, Walleye freshwater fish.
    Thanks for tuning in as we move with our UA-cam channel and vlogs to a new life chapter.

    I'm an American who moved to Morocco from Manhattan, New York City. Everything here is much cheaper but some imported items could be more than in the States. I get one lemon for 1 Dirham which is less than 10 cents. My brother just saw a bag of five lemons at a Walmart for $4.99. Beautiful red ripe tomatoes are 4 Dirhams a kilo which is less than 40 cents for 2.2 pounds. Once in New York I needed one tomato and Gristedes wanted $1.75 ten years ago for one tomato. A major savings on food alone.

      Produce is much cheaper here in Texas. Lemons are 4 for $1. Limes are 6 for $1. Chicken thighs and drumsticks are 99 cents a pound. Tomatoes are 80 cents a pound. Still very expensive to Moroccan souks.
      Living expenses in New York, California and Tokyo are outrageous.
      John.. did you marry a Moroccan woman so you can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life? Morocco is nice and peaceful compared to any big cities here in the US.

    I live in Manhattan, sometimes I go to the Union Square Farmers Market to shop. the produce there is fresh and more tasty, but what people should know , especially Moroccans, is that Farmers Markets in the USA are, most of the time, more expensive than the regular super markets due to the quality of their products, whereas in Morocco is the other way around !! :)

What do you think,having lived there for so long? Would you go back to live there again or will you be settling in America now? I loved your time in Morocco and it felt like I was there with you. I love Sorrel, aka Jamaica (Agua Fresca de Jamaica), aka Hibiscus tea. The Caribbean version, Sorrel, is so full of exotic flavors, it almost tastes medicinal (& probably is) - Mmmmmm! Unfortunately, we dont get much for our $ here compared to Maroc 🤨

      Hey there, Hibiscus tea sounds tasty, all we drink in Morocco is mint tea haha, about the prices being different i think that it's exactly like you mentioned, it's all relative as I honestly wouldn't mind paying more if that means having the organization that Farmers Markets in the USA have... ours are a bit too messy 😶

      @@L3ZAWI You're right about the organization aspect. They also have much more strict guidelines about organic certification as well, which is particularly important to me

    0:40 , you mean you could buy 20 kg of tomatoes not 2 . ( at 2.5 DH/kg)

    • @MorAcro
      @MorAcro  3 роки тому +4

      I meant 2 kilos would blow our 200 dh budget here. which is craaaazy.
