Growing up my dad always carried his Ka-Bar with him whenever we went camping, fishing, hiking and my grandfather carried a bowie short fighter with a reverse cutting tip. Nowadays I carry a folding pocket knife but the advantages of carrying a knife back then was just as good as it is now. You never know when you might need a good blade and for what reason.
My papaw and my dad both always have their pocket knives with them (I think they have the Buck 373 or the Old Timer equivalent) and have had them since before I was born. And now I have a small collection going and I try to switch between what ones I take with me every day. I use mine a lot for cleaning under my fingernails, but you never know when you might need to slice a cheesecake or cut someone
So this is something i am going to attempt in the near future.. with the same knife! Its a Utica sportsman, made at utica cutlery here in Utica NY back in the 1920s thru the 1960s and 70s.. and i collect them.. the blade was usually etched and it wore off with use.. sometimes it was stamped. yours had the winterbottom bone handles, of which i have owned many.. the one i plan to work on has the plastic handles, and with these handles the guard is always loose..nice job with the wood.. gives me some inspiration!
Wonderful job. I will never say "you should have..." and I would be proud to own this one. It would have been neat if you could have somehow cleaned up the scales and did a resin form or something, to save the rustic look. Again, not a criticism. I love your end product.
For anyone wanting to know what the name of this knife I believe it's either a Utica Sportsman or a Utica Kutsmaster, but that's based off of looks because I have a Utica Sportsman and it's built exactly like this knife but it didn't have a stag handle
I've always wondered why all knives aren't full tang like this one. The only reasons I came up with are weight and perhaps shock absorption. But not sure, full tang just makes more sense in my mind.
Design and handle look exactly like my dads 1932 Boy Scout knife. It sold through the scouts for $2.25 which was a lot then. Anyway, that's the story he said.
You really should’ve glued that old handle back together it made you molds out of it and then you could’ve used colored brown and cream Apoxsee resin’s knife handles that look like bone or ivory. You get your mold made for each side then you take a white Apoxsee or cream Apoxsee and just draw a little lines in the bottom of the mold for your contrast and then mix up a brown Apoxsee and just swizzle swipe into it so poor that in there and you should have something that Replicates antlers And then the sooner you could put a metal rod for strength are used multiple composites but something you could do real cheap and really easy
As a Bowie knife collector, the one your working on is pretty inexpensive to buy new. You most likely put in more time and money then it was worth. But you still did a good job.
because you have to ruin pieces that have a story just to make videos and get likes .... leave it to those who are able ... and know how to value it ....

Nice work. It's just a clip point hunter, though, not a Bowie.

I didn't have much hope for this one but it turned out fantastic!
I've got another knife that's even worse. Hoping to have it done in a couple of weeks.

Bowie is very good knives 🔪……he’s great expert with tool and knifemaker!
You have a very interesting blade clip. The two-color handle is simply superb

Hella dope results, @lostandrestored! Now it needs an equally dope sheath (unless you've already made one)!
Great job!

GREAT RESTO, STAY SAFE...
Great work! But, that's definitely not a Bowie knife.

Amazing video 🔥
You sure do fantastic work love your channel such a fantastic way to learn the restoration business 👍👍👍😊😊😊♥️
Thank you very much!
It looks just like an old Sportsman's knife that was real popular back in the '50s.
Design and handle look exactly like my dads 1932 Boy Scout knife. It sold through the scouts for $2.25 which was a lot then. Anyway, that's the story he said.
That's a cool story, back in the glory days of Boy Scouts.
The contrasting wood colors with the aluminum piece looks great. Was the lighter wood Holly type wood? Thumbs Up
Magnifica
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
Enjoyed the video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Holaaaaaa me re gusta tu canal

Anyone know what knife this is?
As a Bowie knife collector, the one your working on is pretty inexpensive to buy new. You most likely put in more time and money then it was worth. But you still did a good job.
I had one just like that when I was a kid. (different times) Low quality steel.
Perfeito.
👍👍👍❤
That's not a knife.... that's a mini bowie knife
You actually rebuilt it, not restored. But it turned out excellent
👍👍👍👏👏👏👏‼️‼️‼️🎉🎉🎉🎉
Isn't it super dangerous to wear gloves while workig with machines like saws and drills?

Your tools need upgrading. Hopefully enough watchers so that you can earn some money via this.
That’s the goal! I just upgraded my bench this week and got a sand blaster.
