I love that you made the long water reservoir so good-looking, and putting that handsome lid on it is so practical. THEN you painted the sides! Looks great, and so do you! God be with you.
Hi Don, To keep mosquitoes out of the water tank and from laying eggs in it. Try to add some screening to the underside of those doors. Also add screening at the gutter downspout. 👍🏾👍🏾
It's great to see you doing what you love.Gloves especially when cutting metal. Hey I wear glasses makes us look intelligent 🤣.As for painting ok on my knees just getting up the problem lol . Great seeing you better, god bless. Simon 😀🇬🇧 xx
Nice Upgrade and WELCOME BACK.. Yes.. it feels to get a project completed or upgraded. SO.. because water runs downhill and seeks it's own level..at the 17:26 mark.. The right side panel should go UNDER the panel on it's left.. It's creating a big disruption in the flow.
Yep I did that so I could access the front part of the tank without raising all of the rest of the lids. That said I am thinking of reversing all of that . Good observation on your part!
first time watching one of your videos! i love it! im just 64 fixing to be 65 this year, and im a man married to steffy! my grandfather died of cancer in 1974, we had built a pole barn before that and i learned about turning the blade backwards to cut sheet metal back then!! it amazes me how the people who have never actually farmed or lived the way i have my entire life, get so excited when they learn a new trick or how to do something.i applaud you for what you are doing and the others are doing. i went to votec school for 1/2 day for 4 years from 8th grade to 11th grade to be a "printer" . i was an A+ student and worked doing a special project one summer! the very first job i applied for i was told that they would love to hire me but i was WHITE and the government had a "quota system" where the employer was required to have a set percentage of minorities! so i worked at jobs that DID NOT TAKE OUT TAXES FOR MOST OF MY LIFE!! i started reading mother earth news back in the early 1970's and organic farming and gardening before that.i shot my first deer at around 11 or 12 years of age. we always preserved our own meat and vegies etc... i took agriculture in college but did NOT want the degree, as i hate modern agriculture practices, and even refused to drive a grain truck for a local rancher (pay was CASH) because i REFUSE to participate in confinement feeding of cattle! met my second wife through an ad in mother earth news magazine, she was a midwife etc... i divorced her 10 years later because of her drug use! i met my 3rd and final wife online, she was a Filipino from lapulapu city on Cebu island. moved there to marry her and live, until my mom died expectantly. i had REFUSED to talk to her for years and thought i had been taken out of the trust as a beneficiary. but i got a bunch of money so we came back to the states. she is a citizen here now and has actually saved my life instead of letting me die and getting all my money! living off grid is all she has ever known and she has a BACHELORS DEGREE IN NURSING. she works at a hospital for 4 years now, and brings home the bacon and cooks it up too! i get $361 in social security,LOL we have cash put back for emergencies and several years of supplies stored up. if SHTF happens we will be just fine!
Glad you’re doing better. Down time is better doing something with friends instead of staying in place. AND it was something you enjoy ❤. Water catchment turned out great 👍👵🏻👩🌾❣️
Lane I was with a friend last week up in Carr Canyon. We came across a beautiful colored snake! I thought it was a huge coral snake and kept my distance but still filmed it. Turns out it was a Sonoran Mountain King Snake! One gorgeous animal!
@@affordabledesertliving3487 Yep.. precisely the snake I told you to be on the look-out for, quite some time in the past.. I'm glad you finally got to see one.. 😎👍

My husband always wrapped his brushes in aluminum foil between uses, however long that time was, and put them in the freezer. He didn't actually clean them until the end of a project. Worked great!
Glad to see you back Don, the wife and I love you very much! I was yelling at the screen "Use the circular saw!!!" You got it perfect, thanks for all you do my friend!
Good to see you back in action. To help with the brush and paint is to keep a couple of wet dish towels while your painting so when you take a break cover the paint can and wrap the brush with them .
Great to see you back in action again. I was beginning to wonder where you were. If I had known you were in Texas, we could have gotten together if you were close by. I live on Lake Whitney. God bless in all you do.
Hi Don, Great to see you feeling so much better 🥰 Good job on your water reservoir, thanks for posting and sharing👍 Have an awesome week!😀So good to see you!
Thanks Mack! I was so busy guiding others that I didnt actually film to be honest. Hopefully when home construction projects die down a bit I can concentrate more on bird filming.
I like your tank. You build like me. Angle braces across the corners make weak corners strong for almost everything you build out of wood, without adding much weight or needing much wood, although what you did is sturdier for your tank, especially since you might end up using it for a table and to stand on. I want a table saw, too! Takes some extra power to run them.
They make metal shears attachments for cordless drills, that'd probably be a handy tool. Or any electric metal shear really since you've got a few power sources.
So glad you are feeling better Don! I love your sense of humor as you work on this solar, water catchment project! Rest and take good care of Yourself. See you next time~
Tip for cutting metal roofing....old timer showed me about flipping a old circular saw blade around and putting it backwards on the saw and voila....use a old junk blade so save yer old blades when u replace. Use eye proyection
I would suggest for an easy way to support them while lifting the tops, add a piece of wood and put it on a hing on the back end so when you lift it, it will automatically swing out so it stands up and supports the doors. Have not finished the video yet so you may already have done something for it.

Hi Don, great video. As you were painting the water catchment I noticed the shaded area under the solar panels. That might be a good place to grown some lettuce in a tote or small raised bed. Looks like it might get some morning sun then cooler for the rest of the day.
Good luck with your project! When I had a left over paint on brush I would wrap up the brush in a plastic bag with all the air out and it would normally be good for a couple days. Hope that helps!

One of the best liners for tanks is the (usually blue) liner they use for swimming pools. It can be cemented using the suitable glue.
I prefer the screws that have a Bristol type head, they come with a bit as well, and the screw stays on the bit more easily when driving..
