It gets so hot you can't hold your hand in it. Works great, gear reduction is not enough, I need to add a chain and sprocket and maybe go to hard rubber wheels. I need to help it make it's cycle, but overall, pleased. It takes about 30 days to do a good job. The trick is MASS. Thanks
Good video. Any update? I want to build one of these. I'd put the motor on the wheels though and leave one end open. And turn it much much much slower, in the single digit revolutions per hour range. I have never seen a composter that needs to spin that fast.
having looked at some commercial composters using a similar system I notice they turn very slowly and continually, would this be better? also some people use starter motor motors with low gearing and better torque. I do like your idea.
I like this. I see that the motor seems not too efficient for the big drum because of the start stop of the fly wheel. I was wondering how it would do with the weight of compost in the drum?
Thanks, great video. I assume that the stirring of the materials causes it to compost or do you add anything but food. What foods - know no meats should go in it? By the way, appreciate "have a blessed day". This is funny, I ran into a guy that I told cordially "have a blessed day". The guy shocked/challenged me and said "Don't bless me!" I like to make people think and humorously replied, "OK Curse you!" Some people are whacko, hope he woke up and realized that blessings are good. Ha!.
I think once you get it a third or half full, the weight of the compost might be too much for you motor or the welds. You definitely need to do some more bracing on the transmission support. Wonder if you could wire it to slowly turn any time the sun is out? Or does compost have to sit undisturbed between turnings?
Sir,have you thought of designing a compact electrically operated composter for domestic kitchen waste to be converted to organic soil.Capacity of 10 to 15 kg per day .This can be a enclosed unit propped up in the perimeters of a kitchen for small households in India.A lot of such waste is wasted and polluting the atmosphere and I have taken up this social cause. Please give me your comments and a possibility of such a compact composter which can have a small heater to quicken the composting, say within 24 hours.
Why all these mechanics? My compost sits still in the sun in an upright barrel. Stir it every now and then, it all 'works' just fine. Why do humans like to make everything needlessly complex? It's quite insane. But then our whole species is.
Love this project and how you presented it! I would never have the skills or equipment to do this myself, but it was great to see you do your magic :)

first large tumbler i have seen. I have a 1100 gal tank i want to do almost same with. Did you put any fins inside to help tumble material?
Awesome, great work.
Are you still using it? Any tips? Did it make good results? How long would it take to compost? Any problems once it got heavy?

Great! Thank you for your sharing

hi is there any updates on this project have you used it and what was the result, please explain them in video
Great project! Now for an unloader feature to get the composted material out.
Thanks.
So whats the normal operation of this in a day and how often do you fill it and how does it wor and is it still holding up? thank you

Exactly what I have had in mind

adding a voltage doubler circuit may be better on the battery... Otherwise good job.. (after modding from comments)
BRILLIANT
very good
Awesome!
Awesome! Still in use?
pretty simple,im gonna stART SAVING SOME STUFF
Solar power compost machine
Under $5?
I will take 100 of them....
Under $5??? What drugs are you using
