I have neuropathy and arthritis in my hands. Knitting and crocheting with my fingers helps me have less cramps in the long run. At first it seems hard, but after repeated movement, the pain goes away. I can't hold a crochet needle or chopsticks. My fingers will cramp and I won't be able to extend or open my hands in several days. I appreciate this lesson, it has helped me regain strength and dexterity in my hands.
At first since I've never crocheted I we a little bored but once I got into it was a blast and I feel like I understand crocheting way better that I did before
It was only a matter of time. First the finger tatting then knitting - now the crochet. Very clever and you can take them all on an airplane without a problem.
Unfortunately, not all airports and airlines allow them :( I just found out that the airline I will be flying with soon doesn't allow it, hence my presence here :)
Not to be negative but if you don't know how to crochet, and you can master this, then I think learning how to crochet with a hook will be 10x easier! No way would I rather crochet like this over using a hook.
I made a full scarf this way, but I used normal yarn... it took a bit of time, and honestly, the beginning is all messed up... the beginning is very tight, then after that it gets pretty loose for a row... and I didn't have enough yarn, so it's way thinner than it is long!
I only know how using a needle but it's basically when you have the two loops on your fingers make a loop with the new yarn (not a slip knot)and put through then continue and then at the end cut of the small tail that you get from the old wool and its done I'm really sorry if you didn't understand .
Attempting to teach the free class at my store Monday. Unfortunately my store clearanced the Ziggy yarn a long time ago. Hopefully I can find a substitute. :-(
You can always use multiple yarn strands (like 4 or 5 strands of 4x yarn) to make your own bulky yarn. Same color or multiple colors...hope you find some on sale 😉
I tried it with a thin yarn and did not like it. I had several small balls of yarn from other projects and decided to try using them up. I used 5 yarns of different colors and types and used them all at once. It came out very nice!
How many yards of yarn are in each of your skeins? And are you using super bulky size 6? Because the brand I'm using is lion brand yarns hometown USA and I got this yarn a while ago and cannot go buy more yarn. Anyways I could use my 81yd skein to make a scarf with this technique? I'm sure I could adjust the size somehow
Hi Lauren! The yarns depend on what specific skein you have. Find the specific instructions to a finger knit scarf here: www.michaels.com/loops-and-threads-cozy-wool-double-strand-finger-crochet-scarf/B_82833.html?productsource=projects
+Andrew Bertram Hi there! You can control the tension by always making sure you keep your thumb and forefinger right under the stitch you are working on. Also, before you make each stitch, pull the working yarn tight and this should help.
Mobilegameing Rex, tell your dad the Rams football player Roosevelt "Rosey" Grier, who helped apprehend and detain Sirhan Sirhan (who assassinated Senator Robert F. Kennedy) does needlepoint, and the actors Ryan Gosling, David Arquette, Nicholas Hoult and possibly Russell Crowe all knit. There are plenty of boys and men who knit. Do a search on the internet about men and the history of knitting.
I started crochet when I was 12. I could only use yarn until I was 21. A MAN taught me how to use thread, and read patterns to create beautiful lace doilies, Christmas decorations and of course much more than the basic granny square. I've taught all of my children how to crochet, including my boys. Keep up the good work. Busy hands are blessed hands!
Mobilegameing Rex i know how you feel when I made a scarf and my dad got mad and my dad says that's only for girls and when I bake my dad gets very mad at me .....your not alone
Question, is this just a straight scarf or is it a loop type scarf. Because I thought you just made a straight line but you have it around your neck like a loop scarf. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you for this video, I have to teach this class tonight at Michael's. It's so much easier to comprehend when you actually see someone doing it rather than just written instructions. Thank you again 😊
+Christina Travis She used a single stitch. A double single stitch is very different than a single stitch (I assume you meant double single stitch because there is no such thing as a single double stitch).
It was a pretty good video except you really should have covered changing from one skin to the next. You are supposed to be teaching beginners so you need to cover each step in the video. Never leave people guessing.
Who is deciding on our Michael's knitting and crochet yarn inventory??? You really think fingering is a big deal for crocheters?? Really? If you were sensitive to this craft, you would have a great stock of Caron cakes! Where are they? The blogs are full of people who are shopping Michaels for their Caron Cakes! But not here!

The most beautiful scarf ever using the thick line. Congratulations!
I completed my scarf. It looks great! Thanks for the help!
+Jill Benson Send us your photo! Would love to see it.

Very very nice scarf thank you
I can't wait to make more handmade gifts, yes literally hand made
Can you use this to make a headband?
Super cool
Could you possibly do a tutorial on how to add your second skein of yarn? I had difficulties with that.
Glenda Renee Aguilar
Same
What is the finished size? I would like to use just one skein so how could I modify? Less chains?

I love it!
+Paulina Zyzik Happy you enjoyed it!

How do you put the yarn around your fingers to make the first knot you never specified that
Our store too!! I hope to find a suitable substitute as well for the class Monday. Any suggestions?
+cheryl guillet Hi Cheryl any super bulky yarn can be used for the finger crochet technique.
I used one skein of yarn for my scarf, now I need to add the second skein of yard. How do you go about adding the second skein of yard?
I only know how using a needle but it's basically when you have the two loops on your fingers make a loop with the new yarn (not a slip knot)and put through then continue and then at the end cut of the small tail that you get from the old wool and its done I'm really sorry if you didn't understand .

Great video! Seems super easy, my only challenge is mine seems to need more than 2 skeins...what did I do wrong??
Some projects need more than one skein depending on its size and yarn type. You didn't do anything wrong.
I need the super big yarn
is this possible with thin yarn?
i followed the steps for the single crochet and got something that looks different.. there are no Vs
Hi Cindy, we always recommend using bulky yarn for finger crochet projects.
Ok, thank you! I tried this with a thinner yarn and it came out quite well though it had a few holes. I'll try it again with thicker yarn.
+Michaels Stores I LOVE

Wouldnt use a Q or S hook produce the look??
Love it

How did you get your stitches so tight? When I did the second step i ended up with super loose and sloppy knots...
+Andrew Bertram Hi there! You can control the tension by always making sure you keep your thumb and forefinger right under the stitch you are working on. Also, before you make each stitch, pull the working yarn tight and this should help.
im a 12 year old boy and i love to make hats and my dad dose not like that i did that
Then your dad sucks.

This is an infinity scarf, the ones you have around your neck. - Sarah
I cannot, for the life of me, go back down my first chain. How do you do it??
Thank you for this video, I have to teach this class tonight at Michael's. It's so much easier to comprehend when you actually see someone doing it rather than just written instructions. Thank you again 😊
Did I miss something or did she not demonstrate how to join the ends? If it isn't connected then it isn't an infinity scarf. Sorry
Angel Leigh it’s not a infinity one just norm
Angel Leigh I totally agree.
She never said it was an infinity scarf....
It's not an infinity scarf. She simply wrapped the scarf around her neck.
I can't do the crochet part at all
Isn't that stitch call the single double crochet ?
+Christina Travis She used a single stitch. A double single stitch is very different than a single stitch (I assume you meant double single stitch because there is no such thing as a single double stitch).
My daughter can finger crochet a scarf in about 2 hours. She can also net using her arms as knitting needles.
very interesting but i confused have to watch again n again
That was ok but how do you end it.
Interesting way to use super bulky "6" yarn.
i cant find ziggy yarn at michaels anymore
Hi! Can you please DM us your contact information and store location, so we can look into this? -Daisy
hi
+Bobbi Jo Pellicone hello!
Sadly, this is one of those things that DOES NOT work for me :/
It was a pretty good video except you really should have covered changing from one skin to the next. You are supposed to be teaching beginners so you need to cover each step in the video. Never leave people guessing.
I like to finger knit rather than finger crochet
first
Anybody else end up with a snake.... nope just me okay

Any new skill is meant to be confusing until you get used to it.
So confused I have no idea it is so hard

That was the worst.. ..it doesn't work ...and I still have no idea what the * your doin..
