The way they answered was misleading. All the rents mentioned was for a single room, not the whole place. I live in a 2 bed flat (zone 2) and it costs me 2200 a month.
Probably worth making it clear that all these people are quoting their rent for a room. When you factor that in, most of these rents are not good deals. London rental market is astronomically high
Obviously besides the people with mortgages, these are all shared flats or houses - £700 per month per person sharing with x4 others = £2,800 for the flat (likely to be quite crummy flat as well). I paid £675 for a 1-bed flat in Welwyn Garden City until 2021 and you don't even find those anymore!
I find it very hard to believe that these people pay so little in central London. Only explanation I can come up with is that these places are very small and/or not updated. I live in Chelsea and just pay over £6,000 per month for a 3 bed, 2.5 bathrooms place that’s neither big nor super modern. This doesn’t include utilities or council taxes.
I lived in an ensuite with a shared kitchen at Islington for 920 a month. It was a student dorm but still a lot more expensive than anything here unless theirs were rooms rather than apartments
I am currently living in an 800£ matchbox apartment, and was considering moving to a 1500£ apartment. Thanks to these people I’ll be abandoning that plan immediately.
How the hell can these people pay this low in rent ? i've not been able to find anything better than a shitbox while the budget is a bit over 1800 quids pcm.
Oh my sister works for BOE threadneedle Street she is an analyst for them earnings a very large salary. She rents in Hackney East London, 1 bedroom flat beautiful over looking London fields. Her rent a week is £68.00, when she moved in 2012 the rent was £42.50 a week. You just need to have the right connections to get these cheap but very nice properties ❤
I live in zone 1 Westminster and I pay £500 a month for a 1 bedroom flat with my own bedroom living room etc . But I live in a council flat i inherited from my parents .
these must be shared, i.e. only their portion of the rent (except for the guy who bought 30 years ago). They must be living in absolute shoeboxes for £600-800/month in central london.
Well, that's not including the utility and council tax I have to pay. Currently council tax is just under £100 p/m and utility I think is around £230-£260 p/m so all in all, around £800 per month. That's just for the big 3. I haven't included the smaller cost like mobile, broadband, tv license and food etc.
Rent in London is not bad at all, especially if you don't choose an area that's known for being trendy or expensive, for example i just looked up a 1 bedroom flat in Mitcham and there was one for £750 a month and one for £600 a month, there were other more expensive properties but those two were available as of right now. A lot of the people from outside of London that move here are more interested in Shoreditch than Mitcham and are looking to stay in or near a known place.
@@andrewsa3195 Virtually everyone in your video and most of your comment section are talking about Greater London by your definition. @@tribalisnt Not my video. Mitcham isn't part of London and it's unfair to compare rents between London and Greater London, they are different areas. Mitcham has no tube, so of course it will be cheaper to live than say Clapham for example.
@@andrewsa3195 Sorry my bad about the video misunderstanding, anyways 1/2 of Mitcham is a 5 minute walk from Tooting Broadway station and would be considered zone 3 so again it's about knowledge. Clapham is a broad area and you would rather live in Mitcham than Clapham North for example, Clapham Junction has always been quite high crime where as Common and South are fine. But even then Clapham is considered 'Greater London" too. Balham and Wandsworth Common cost an arm and a leg but Tooting & Mitcham are cheaper when it's all the same area.

Thank you all for watching! & was anyone else surprised by how much rent these people were paying?!!
Absolutely this is per room rent
Checking prices on the right move and for £600, you get a room of a size of a wardrobe with mold everywhere.
Iknow bro it’s crazy!
They don’t clarify things,
Any price they say under £1200 is likely a shared apartment/house.
So it’s misleading
I guarantee they live in shared flats and the rent they mention is only for a room that can call their own.
Yeh almost flat share 👌
It has to be!
This is crazy, £1k for a room seems acceptable somehow -where did these people find their landlords?! Wish they showed pics too
I think a lot was friends / spare room! :)

Yeh rent for the room + front room kitchen etc!
My girlfriend and I pay £825 each for a small 1 bed apt (heating and hot water included) in Hammersmith… where are these people finding these places 🙃
Yo HONESTLY! The people in this video had crazy good deals😂😂
Yeah me and my partner is 1400 just rent, together. These are either pyramid method or they defo got some favours. Those prices don’t exist in London.
In which area you are living ??
In London it's easy to afford rent because wages are also increased here ???
Wow! I pay £800 for a 1 bed flat in Fulham (plus counciltax, bills, internet)
RIP £1200 for one bedroom flat in 2023. Do these people live inside a tree?
My salary after taxes is £2200/ a month ( i am working in healthcare)
That's even cheap. Most one beds are like 1500-£1700 these days

They will almost all live in 4 bedroom flats with the living room being another bedroom in an outdated property

Very interesting video as despite media reports it's not often you know the real current rental prices in London
Thank you! and yeh I thought the same!
This is not real! It's probably a cupboard tiny room with mould. It's very deceiving these numbers.

i agree lmao
I'm surprised as well. Back in 2008 I rented a 1 bedroom flat in east london, was £875/mo, seems things have got cheaper.
It hasn’t, most one bed flats are still around 1k-1.3k, they just got bargains or are absolutely doing flatshares
Paying 2000 for 2 bedroom flat in zone 5 😢
I feel you bro.
How did they all find good deals??

I think they are talking about how much they pay in a shard house, not the rent of the entire place
Yeh exactly
no way ! It must be a shared accommodation could be weekly price.
I don’t believe this. I was paying £900 a month for a basic room in a shared 3 bed flat 2014.
I’m now paying £2600 for a 2 bed flat in Belsize Park.
Have rents gone down in London?! I was paying £850 like 5 years ago!

Their share of the place
What how is everyone's rent so low?
Honestly I thought the same!
£600 to £700 for good size room in London is cheap. How can i get one
I pay just under £115 p/w for my flat in Camberwell but it is council owned.

Yes! Hahaha
Just live in Zone 2 or higher, in a non trendy area and get at least one flat mate and you can live cheap, even in London.
