I have often thought that as well. Emi has really worked hard on all aspects of his game and his brilliant as a sweeper keeper. I would say Ederson just edges it as the best keeper with his feet followed by Emi.

Ref was card happy all game. Stood in Villa players eye line during pens. Tried to send Dibu off for asking for a ball. Hopefully some questions asked about him. Emi, what a lad. He keeps making the French cry.

I noticed that, it being at the home end is always tough.
Watkins pen delayed by a ball being lobbed into the penalty area, I also saw the Lille keeper was standing ahead of the ball on the spot while waiting while Martinez stood behind the ball, I thought every player aside from the defending keeper had to be behind the ball.
And yes finally, Luiz Concentration in full flow waiting for the whistle stood over the ball, eyes and mind totally focused on the job ahead and the ref comes a starts talking to him?! Wtf about I don't know.
For sure, the man was yapping in Luiz's ear like he was tryin to take him out to dinner, embarrassing refereeing.
It was odd wasn't, Luiz was giving the goalkeeper the long O.K. Corral staredown waiting for the whistle and why the Ref had to talk to him is beyond me. I think I even saw Luiz mouth, "waiting for whistle!" And then I especially loved how Luiz took his steps back and waited... waited some more taking it in his time. Brilliant!

Awful referee. The whole game he was one sided with yellows and ran around like a petulant toddler. Not sure which leagues they get them from but this guy should be nowhere near a European game. Couldn’t handle the big crowd, had Lille players telling him to issue yellows and then not booking Lille players for that or similar tackles by Lille, to those Villa players got booked for. But UTV, we still beat the 12 men they had on their side!

I'm a Chelsea fan but I'm happy for Villa. One of my closest friends is a Villa fan, and we've had some history with them, with John Terry and Tammy Abraham's stints there being the most recent connection, as well as the signing of Carney. I'm a fan of Emery too. His Europa League record with Sevilla and Villareal, clubs that were absolutely not favourites, is exceptional, and what he has done with Villa is nothing less than world class management. (Only Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal have earned more points since he took over)
Until you put it like that I never made all those connections. Every one of them has contributed hugely to where we are, would have loved it if Carney stayed but Chelsea fan so can't begrudge him for moving.

Villas former GK coach convinced DS to buy him to replace Tom Heaton (who was injured after 3 or 4 games). If he doesn't get injured, villa don't buy EM & this storyline doesn't happen. Even Argentinas world cup & coppa America win wouldn't happen as he wasn't playing 1st team footy enough. Villa told him "join us & you will be No.1 for your country & play at a WC, quality for Champ Lge, compete in a European competition, become a Villa legend, improve year on year. We were absolutely dire in that game, haven't been so enraged by a Villa performance in a long time. Didn't deserve to go through but i'll take it.
You didn't watch the last Spurs match? Much more dire then this match by a county mile on enraged spectrum.
I can't say i was enraged just stressed, I was prpud of the way they hung in there as the game went on. We are a work in progress, had far less time off than Lille, missed Kamara and we had so many players who were just off it tonight. One of which was Cash who in retrospect was clearly not match fit with his touh, but he battled his way back into the game. Scored a fantastic goal, jumped in defensively late at key moments and scored a great pen. He was an example of our heart, stubbornness, digging deep to stay in with a chance to win against a very good team. UTV 🦁
Fortunately we played quite well in the first game to win that. Quelle surprise!
We played about as well as we did against Helsingborgs in 97. But we went through. That's down to Emery
