  • Folklore dancing is these performers' avocation. They practice twice per week from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Throughout the year their regular job vacation days are allocated to touring and performing just like you see here. Some of the performers you see here began their avocation at an early age and with this very same group. Their dedication and love for their folklore culture is exemplary. The folklore club is self-supporting. They were a pleasure to watch and listen to and I look forward to joining them again as a spectator.
SKUD Oplenac is from Toronto and performs Serbian folklore dances. The rich music styles presented here are from a country which is roughly the size of New Jersey. I particularly enjoy the down-tone styles and the styles which switch between major and minor keys. The songs are predominantly about love. Some songs are about ancient struggles for survival. As we all can see they survived and prospered.
If it seems to you that some of the folklore has a touch of something Eastern, well, this is roughly where the East begins.... It's absolutely alluring.
